Thankfully, fate was still kind to her; there werenât many taxis on the airport side.
So after she hailed one, there wasnât another in sight. That man would need some time to catch up.
"Driver, please go faster."
After driving for a while, Chiang Xiao urgently pushed the driver to go faster.
"Iâm already going fast; driving too fast isnât safe."
"No, driver, I have a bit of a stomachache. Please go faster," Chiang Xiao said, pretending to have a stomachache, clutching her stomach the whole time.
The driver, seeing this, could only speed up.
Upon reaching Anqing University, Chiang Xiao paid the fare and ran toward the back gate of Anqing University with her luggage.
It was winter break, and the school was empty; she couldnât just rush inside. But she knew that behind the university gate lay a dense residential area. If she got there before the man caught up, she would have won.
Chiang Xiao dared not underestimate Second Masterâs men.
Sure enough, just after she ran off, the taxi hadnât yet departed. The driver had just pocketed the money, picked up his water bottle to drink, when there was a knock on the car window.
He rolled down the window, and a man immediately asked, "Where did the woman just now go?"
"Whatâs wrong?"
"Answer the question, right now." The man twirled a small knife in his hand.
The driver turned pale, stammering in fear, and pointed in a direction.
The man glanced over and asked, "Did she say anything?"
"That girl seemed to be having a stomachache, in pain all the way, urgently heading home to use the bathroom," the driver said.
Last night at the airport, she also mentioned a stomachache.
Could it really have been the airplane coffee upsetting her stomach?
The man put away his knife and immediately pursued in the direction the driver indicated.
The driver immediately started the car, speeding away from the place. He looked in the rearview mirror, exhaled, and muttered to himself, "I donât know how that girl got involved with those kinds of people. I led that guy the wrong way; I hope that counts as doing a good deed, right?"
The man ran for a while and found himself at a dead end ahead, instantly realizing he had been deceived.
"Damn!"
He didnât expect the driver would dare to trick him!
He arrived at a certain location and entered a small villa.
The Bearded Man was sitting at a small bar, selecting wine. Without turning, he asked calmly, "Where is she?"
"Lost her," the man lowered his head.
The Bearded Man paused, "She ditched you?"
The manâs head dropped even lower, "No, the driver tricked me, led me the wrong way."
"Smack!" a sharp sound echoed.
The Bearded Man swung his arm back, landing a slap that made the manâs head tilt, face swelling instantly. Yet, he stood straight, not daring to breathe heavily.
"Idiot."
The Bearded Manâs face turned cold. Waving his hand, he instructed the two men standing by the door, "Take him down, cut off a finger to teach him a lesson."
The two men immediately came over and stood on each side of him.
Only then did his expression change in shock, "Second Master..."
"Cut off two fingers," the Bearded Manâs voice grew even colder.
"Hu, Master Hu, I was wrong, I was wrong. Please give me another chance..."
He had clearly said everyone in Capital City must call him Master Hu, but under stress, he mistakenly called him by the wrong title.
The manâs face turned as white as paper, sweating profusely even in the cold weather.
