Chapter 562: Love, Tricks, and Traditions ( 562 )
Harny waved them off with a gentle, radiant smile, one that could melt glaciers or start wars depending on the situation.
Marcellus, however, was frozen.
His eyes refused to leave Harnyâs figure. That face. That voice. That smile. That hair. That elegance.
Two⊠two Lithias⊠two⊠two⊠twoâŠ
âMaster Marcellus,â Lithia said sweetly.
âMm?â
Pull.
âOW OW OW!!â he yelped as she tugged his ear like a mother scolding a misbehaving child.
âI saw you staring!!â Lithia puffed her cheeks, her glare sharp as daggers. âYou kept staring at her chest!â
âW-Whaâ!? No I didnât!! I meanâI was justâI meanâsheâs literally your copyâcloneâtwinsâevil future version?!â
âEXCUSE me!?â Lithia growled.
âI MEANT THAT IN A COMPLIMENT WAY!!â
Harny giggled from behind. âAww~ donât scold him too much, dear. Youâll make him run away before the marriage~â
âIâll drag him back if he tries,â Lithia muttered under her breath, tightening her grip on his sleeve like a vice.
âLithia?â
âW-What now, Mother?â Lithia asked, already sensing trouble.
âYou should at least visit our home first,â Harny said with that gentle, perfectly poised smile that sent a chill down her daughterâs spine.
âUmm⊠okayâŠâ
Lithia then turned to Marcellus, sharply narrowing her eyes.
âDonât follow us.â
âHuh!? Why not!?â
âNo reason! Just stay!â
Before Marcellus could even respond properly, Harny had already taken his hand.
âOh no, no~ donât listen to her. Come and see the house she abandoned for years and never cared to visit,â Harny chimed, tugging him forward with surprising strength for a supposedly delicate elven woman.
âM-Mother!! Donât just drag him along like that!!â
âWhat? Iâm just being a good hostess. You should learn, Lithia~â Harny said cheerfully while leading Marcellus away.
Marcellus looked helplessly at Lithia while being pulled.
âI swear Iâm not going willingly!â
âI CAN SEE THAT YOUâRE ENJOYING IT, YOU IDIOT!!â
âWhy do you sound like Gloria right now!?â
âSHUT UP!!â
Lithia fumed, following behind while Harny wrapped her arm around Marcellusâs like they were newlyweds returning from a date.
âNow, Marcellus~ let me show you the room Lithia used to sulk in every time she failed her sword lessons~â
âMother, please!!â Lithia turned bright red.
Marcellus was dazed.
Two Lithias⊠Two⊠TWO⊠One was already a miracle⊠Now there are two⊠and one is single⊠single⊠singleâŠ
âMy~â Harny purred, leaning slightly closer. âThinking about the offer I gave you earlier?â
Her soft fingers gently squeezed his left arm, while Lithiaâs death grip locked onto his right.
âY-You⊠Youâre joking, right?â Marcellus asked nervously, eyes darting between the identical dark elves glued to both sides of him.
Harny smiled sweetly. âNo~ Iâm completely serious. Right, Lithia?â
Lithia twitched.
Her cheeks puffed out. Her ears twitched. Her grip on Marcellusâs arm got dangerously tight.
âM-Mother!! Stop saying such nonsense!!â she yelled, completely flustered.
âWhat nonsense?â Harny tilted her head innocently. âItâs our tradition. When the daughter marries, the motherâif still singleâis offered as a backup comfort for the husband.â
âWHO MADE THAT RULE!?â Lithia snapped.
âGrandma did. And you know how strict she was with family traditions~â Harny winked.
Marcellus coughed. âL-Lithia, is this real? That traditionâŠ?â
âOF COURSE ITâS NOT!!â Lithia shouted, her face now glowing red like a volcano ready to erupt.
âAhh~ So she says,â Harny hummed playfully, snuggling just a bit closer to Marcellusâs arm. âBut if you ever feel⊠overwhelmed by Lithiaâs temper~ Iâm very gentle, you know~â
âMOTHER!!!â
Harny giggled as Lithia lost her cool entirely.
When they arrived at the massive tree nestled deep within the woods, Harny let go of Marcellusâs arm and gracefully pushed open a rounded wooden door embedded in the trunk.
She stepped inside first, then turned around with a soft, welcoming smile. âWelcome to our small tree house.â
Marcellus looked around.
The interior was cozy. Not too big, probably enough for two or three people. It had smooth wooden walls, simple woven furniture, shelves filled with herbal jars, and an earthy scent that felt calming.
So this is where Lithia grew upâŠ
âSit here, darling~â Harny gestured to a cushioned bench with vines decorating its legs.
âM-Mom!! Stop calling him that!â Lithia groaned, visibly flustered and glaring at her mother.
But Harny was unfazed. She hummed a cheerful tune, walked over to a small kitchen corner, and began preparing something.
Marcellus awkwardly sat down, unsure where to place his hands or his eyes.
Moments later, Harny returned with a carved wooden tray carrying two glasses filled with a glowing amber drink. The aroma was sweet and floralâclearly some kind of forest fruit mixed with wild honey.
âA special dark elf drink,â she said with a wink, handing one to Marcellus. âMade only for men I like~â
âMOM!!â Lithiaâs voice cracked like a whip.
âWhat? You never made it for him, right?â Harny sipped her own cup, completely calm.
Marcellus blinked. âU-uh⊠thank you. It smells⊠amazing.â
Harny sat beside him, close enough to make Lithiaâs eye twitch. âTry it. It warms you up, calms the nerves, and some say it has⊠mood-lifting effects~â
Marcellus took a cautious sip.
ââŠWhoa. This is really good.â
Lithia narrowed her eyes.
Marcellus, meanwhile, had just finished the last sip and was smiling, clearly impressed. âThat was amazing⊠I feel warm all over.â
Lithia took the empty glass from his hand, sniffed it carefully, and instantly froze.
ââŠMom,â she said, her voice dangerously low.
Harny tilted her head innocently. âHmm?â
âThis isâŠâ Lithiaâs grip tightened around the glass. âThis is the traditional marital blendâŠ! The drink a wife prepares only for her husband!â
Marcellus coughed. âWaitâwhat?â
Harny giggled. âOh dear~ You noticed? You always were too clever, Lithia.â
âYOUâ!!â Lithia stood up, her cheeks burning. âWhy would youâ?!â
Marcellusâs brain crashed. He stood up abruptly. âW-Wait!! Am I⊠married now!?â
Lithia snapped toward him. âNo, not unless I say so!!â
Harny hummed. âA pity. Heâs a good catch. Youâre slow, my dear daughter. A mother has to step in before someone else does~â
Harny leaned closer, her soft, mischievous smile glowing under the gentle tree-light.
âLooking at your clothes, darling⊠youâre a noble, arenât you?â
Marcellus gulped. ââŠUmmâŠâ
She didnât wait for a clearer answer.
âAnd isnât it customary for nobles to marry more than one wife?â
Lithiaâs eyes widened. âMomâ!!â
Harny turned to her daughter with perfect calm. âIâm just stating facts, dear.â
She turned back to Marcellus, her voice honey-sweet. âSo⊠look at me, darling.â
He did.
âSame face as Lithia⊠same silky skinâŠâ she held out her hand, letting the soft light shimmer along her arm. âDo I look old to you?â
ââŠN-no,â Marcellus replied, already sweating.
âIâm single, Iâm gentle, and I make a great husband-only drink~â she winked. âSo really, whatâs stopping you from making us a nice little trio?â
Lithia was on fireâboth cheeks red and magic sparks starting to dance around her.
âSTOP TRYING TO MARRY MY BOYFRIEND!!â
âBut heâs technically not your husband yet, right?â Harny smiled, completely unfazed. âIf youâre not sealing the deal, someone else might~â
Marcellus raised both hands in panic. âW-wait, can we not turn this into some dark elf two-for-one marriage package!?â
