Chapter 576: Grace in Waiting ( 576 )
Inside the Armand Estate.
Liana hummed softly, a rare gentle melody that brought calm to the quiet dressing room. Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the polished floor and the open trunk before herâneatly folded enchanted maid uniforms, all crafted and personally enhanced by her young master, Javier. His mana signature lingered faintly in every fiber.
She carefully lifted one uniform, her fingers caressing the fine stitching at the collar where his initials were subtly sewn. Her eyes softened.
Today⊠at last⊠she could go to him.
Her gaze shifted to the white ore magic bow resting on the wall rack nearby. It gleamed faintly, humming with dormant powerâone of Javierâs proudest creations. She reached for it, then paused to check her side pouch.
She only packed what mattered: three maid uniforms, a few undergarmentsâsimple, light, enchanted for flexibilityâa small silk pouch with essentials, and her personal silver comb.
With practiced ease, she strapped a new enchanted dagger against her thigh, hidden beneath her skirt. The dual white ore blades were secured to her waist, and finally, she slung her bow across her back.
Fully armed. Fully prepared. Yet she smiled softlyâmore like a maiden ready for reunion than a warrior heading into battle.
This wasnât just any day.
After three long months in the Level 99 Special Training Zoneâand completing two additional Special Levelsâthey had earned this moment. Their aura was stable. Their strength had multiplied. They were no longer just personal maids.
They were guardians now.
âGloria must be finishing her preparations too,â she murmured.
Her humming resumed as she took one last look in the mirror. Pale skin, long silver hair tied neatly back, emerald eyes focused and clear. She brushed a lock behind her ear and smiled againâcalm, elegant, and unmistakably radiant.
Her fingers brushed the Armand crest on her collar.
âWait for me, young master. Iâll be at your side again soon⊠and this time, no girl will steal your gaze.â
Not Mimi.
Not Delya.
And certainly not Felicia.
With that, she stepped out, ready to meet Gloria.
Meanwhile, in the next roomâ
Gloria was practically glowing with excitement.
She twirled once in front of her full-length mirror, letting her dark hair cascade perfectly behind her shoulders as she admired the maid uniforms neatly spread across her bed.
âAra~ All so beautiful⊠Which one should I bring?â she mused with a playful tilt of her head, tapping her chin with a finger.
Her big bagâno, her enormous bagâlay open on the floor, already stuffed with accessories, slippers, nightgowns, and three spare aprons embroidered with lace. She hadnât yet decided which of the five uniforms to fold into it.
She carefully reached for her dual white ore blades and secured them across her back. Unlike Lianaâs, hers had a curved, elegant designâdeadly, yet graceful. She clipped a small, ribbon-trimmed waist pouch at her hipâdisguised as cute and maidlike, but inside carried mana bombs, smoke beads, and a concealed flint trigger. Just in case.
Then, she reached for her last hidden bladeâdiscreetly nestled in her thigh garter.
Knock, knock.
âCome in~â she called cheerfully, already guessing who it was.
Sure enough, Liana stepped inside, fully geared and graceful as everâwith her white ore bow slung elegantly over her back. She gave the room a quick glance, then narrowed her eyes at the enormous travel bag sitting like an overstuffed beast on the floor.
âGloriaâŠâ Liana sighed, pinching her brow. âYou donât need such a big bagâŠâ
Gloria giggled softly. âAra~ I just couldnât choose. Look at them! Frilled collar? Ribbon tie? Or the one with silver threading? How can I leave them behind?â
âYou only need three.â
âBut what if he says I look best in the fourth one? Or the fifth?â
Liana folded her arms, her expression sternâbut a flicker of amusement played in her eyes. âYouâre unbelievable.â
âAnd yet, you love me for it,â Gloria winked, holding up a particularly daring maid dress. âMaybe Iâll save this one for our reunion night with the young master~â
Lianaâs face twitched.
âGloria.â
âYes?â
âLeave the fourth one.â
âEhh~⊠Fine,â Gloria pouted, but reluctantly slipped the bold dress back onto the bed.
Together, the two maidsâboth elegant, both deadly, both hopelessly devotedâgathered their things, ready to depart.
Gloria let out a quiet sigh and repacked everything into a much smaller bagâthough she still hesitated over which accessories to leave behind. Liana stood by the door, arms crossed, watching her with her usual calm, long-suffering patience as Gloria fussed over her belongings.
Finally ready, both maids stepped out of their rooms. Their footsteps were light, graceful, and perfectly synchronized as they moved through the polished halls of the Armand estate.
âLiana. Gloria,â
Suddenly, both froze mid-step.
In front of the open entrance to the maid dining room stood Mrs. Erinnetteâarms crossed, posture impeccable, her stern expression carved into stone. Her sharp eyes flicked briefly to their bags, then narrowed.
âBreakfast first,â she said firmly, leaving no room for debate.
Both maids immediately straightened and responded in unison, âYes, Mrs. Erinnette.â
Her gaze didnât soften. âDonât even think about leaving without eating first.â
âY-Yes, Mrs. Erinnette!!â
Their voices echoed with obedient resolve as they bowed respectfullyâone hand over their left chestâand hurried to their seats.
No matter how eager they were to reunite with their beloved young master, no oneânot even Liana and Gloriaâdared to challenge the head of all maids.
Liana and Gloria quietly approached the long wooden table lined with dishes prepared by the kitchen staffâsteamed vegetables, freshly baked bread, grilled meat slices, boiled eggs, and fruit preserves. Everything was neatly arranged and still warm.
With practiced grace, each selected their portionsâLiana, ever disciplined, choosing lightly, while Gloria, ever elegant, couldnât resist adding an extra slice of meat.
They sat in quiet at the maid dining area. No words were spoken, only the soft clink of silverware and the faint hum of other maids nearby, each respectful of their silence. Everyone knew these werenât just any maidsâthey were his.
Liana gently wiped her lips with a napkin.
âToday,â she said softly.
Gloria gave a small, reassuring smile. âMm. Weâll see him again.â
Their eyes metâcalm, determined, and filled with quiet anticipation.
