Chapter 604: Eyes of Malice ( 604 )
Gilmon stayed kneeling. âWhat are our plans now, my liege?â
Edmund growled low. âUgh⊠Even if we send our air unitâthe wyvern ridersâit wonât be easy anymoreâŠâ
He turned sharply toward Gilmon. âHow many of our special infiltration unit do we have?â
Gilmon responded promptly, âApproximately 150+, my liege.â
Edmund narrowed his eyes. âCan they disguise as halflings?â
âYes, my liege. Their transformation magic and infiltration training are designed for that.â
âGood.â Edmundâs voice was cold. âSend 100. Their mission is to embed themselves inside the Halfling Kingdom. I donât expect this war to end in our favor now⊠not anymore.â
Gilmon looked up, confused. âMy liege?â
Edmund clenched his fist. âThat bastard Garius has already made his move. That means this war⊠will end soon.â
âMy liegeâŠ?â
Edmundâs expression twisted. âHe knows. He knows we canât win once he and his sons are involved.â
He walked toward the war map, pointing toward the Dwarven capital with a dagger.
âSend our remaining men into the dwarven capital. Disguised. Blending in. Quiet.â
Gilmon bowed his head. âTo what end, my liege?â
Edmund smiled darkly. âThat boy⊠Gariusâs third son. The one with the unknown magic and weapons. Heâll try to remove the celestial from Gumarak. He wonât kill him⊠heâll seal it.â
Gilmonâs eyes widened.
âAnd the moment that celestial is sealedâour men will steal it. Take it and run. Bring it to me.â
A chilling silence fell.
Edmundâs eyes burned with madness.
âLet them think theyâve won. Let that brat finish the hard part for us.â
He grinned, twisted and cruel.
âThen we take it all.â
Gilmon kept his head low. âAnd about the Halfling Kingdom, my liege?â
Edmund didnât look back.
âJust make sure those special units are ready for any further instructions. Only the strong ones. No weaklings.â
He smirked darkly.
âIâll give the details later.â
Gilmon bowed. âYes, my liege.â
Edmundâs voice dropped lower, sinister.
âAfter all⊠Iâm still waiting for something.â
Gilmon didnât dare ask. The tent grew colder.
âSoâour main troops, my liege?â
Edmund raised his hand slowly, eyes narrowed toward the map.
âJust send the wyvern units.â
âKeep harassing the last dwarven defense. Hit⊠and then run.â
âDonât give them time to breathe. Donât let them rest. Just⊠keep attacking.â
Gilmon nodded. âAs you command, my liege.â
Edmund smiled.
âThis is just the beginning.â
Gilmon stepped back in silence, leaving the tent.
Edmund remained still, one hand behind his back, the other brushing lightly over the map of the continent spread on the table.
His eyes locked onto the central pointâDwarven Kingdomâs final capital.
Then his finger slowly traced toward the Armand Region.
A cold smirk crept across his lips.
Once everything is ready⊠I will move my last piece.
Inside his mind, the voice of the Celestial chuckled darkly.
But Edmundâs thoughts drowned it out.
GariusâŠ
Not only did you get Francesca.
Not only did you raise powerful sons.
Now⊠you move that talented son of yours.
The brat with cursed magic and foolish ideals.
But donât worry.
Soon, Garius. Soon.
He will meet the one.
The one who will not only crush youâŠ
But those bastard children of yours as well.
Your pride.
Your peace.
Your legacy.
Iâll burn it all.
âI canât wait to try your sonâs real talentâŠâ
Edmund muttered, voice low with twisted delight.
âAhhh~ I canât wait to see him⊠using his full power⊠his full invention⊠that unknown thing he has⊠And those knights of hisâŠâ
His smirk deepenedâstretching unnaturally.
A terrifying smile.
A grin only monsters wore.
His eyes widened, mad with anticipation.
âAhahaha⊠AHAHAHAHA!! I CANâT WAIT!! I CANâT WAIT!!!â
The wind outside howled. The sky turned darker as if reacting to his madness.
Inside the tent, even the guards outside stiffened.
None dared to breathe loudly.
Edmundâs voice echoed inside the silent command post like a cursed bell.
âShow me everything you have, Javier De ArmandâŠâ
âLet me see what a child of Garius can truly do.â
Then⊠the tent flap parted.
A man stepped inâtall, clad in sleek black leather armor lined with crimson trim, his presence heavy with something unnatural.
Edmund turned his head slowly, a sinister grin creeping onto his face.
âSo⊠Arnold~,â he said in a low drawl. âAre those⊠ready?â
Arnold, the commander of the most feared covert divisionâthe Abyss Houndsâsmirked back, his sharp eyes glinting like blades.
âYes, my liege,â he said calmly. âThey are ready. All of them. Even the sealed ones. Just say the word⊠and we will release them. Let the boy taste real terror.â
Edmund chuckled darkly, his fingers drumming on his throne armrest.
âGood⊠very good. Hold them for now. Not yet⊠Not yet.â
He leaned forward, eyes filled with malice.
âThe moment we see an openingâthe moment that brat shows his handâŠâ
Edmundâs voice dropped into a cold whisper.
âWeâll send them.â
Arnold bowed.
âYes, my liege. And when we do⊠weâll see if the son of Garius can survive the nightmare.â
Edmundâs grin twitched slightly as he absorbed Arnoldâs words, his eyes narrowing with satisfaction and menace.
âWhen that time comes⊠tell me about it, Arnold. I want to watch itâevery moment. I want to see with my own eyes how that brat fights them.â
Arnold bowed his head respectfully, his smirk matching his lordâs darkness.
âYes, my liege. Even Garius himself couldnât handle them. Not all at once.â
Edmundâs gaze turned distant for a moment, then sharp again.
âNo⊠Garius is dangerous. Far more than most realize. His mind⊠his people⊠the ones always near himânone of them are to be taken lightly.â
He clenched his hand slowly into a fist. âThat bastard is a genius. A tactician. A strategist. If we make one wrong move, heâll see through it in an instant.â
Arnold chuckled softly. âAh⊠but donât worry, my liege.â
He stepped forward and whispered as if delivering a secret no man should hear.
âEven Armandâs best assassins⊠even their shadow unit⊠couldnât get near that one location.â
Edmundâs eyes narrowed again. âWhy?â
Arnoldâs grin widened, voice low with satisfaction.
âBecause itâs being guarded by them.â
A thick silence followed.
His smile was no longer a smirk. It was a predatorâs grin.
âI canât wait.â
