Chapter 685: Young Love and Dangerous Promises ( 685 )
Javier looked around the wedding celebration, observing the elegant setup, the glowing lanterns strung across the courtyard, and the clusters of nobles chatting cheerfully under the night sky.
Then suddenly.
âGyarrrrhhh!! My eyes!!â he shouted, flinching.
âAh!! Sorry young master!!â Liana gasped, feigning panic. âI didnât mean to!â she said quickly.
She leaned close and gently blew at his eye.
âThere, there~ does it feel better?â she cooed sweetly.
Javier blinked rapidly, still holding his eye. âLiana! You totally did that on purpose!â
âEhh~? No way~ How could I ever hurt my precious young master?â she said with a teasing lilt, cupping his cheek innocently. âMaybe your eye just wanted attention~â
âIâll show you attentionââ
âAh ah~ behave~â Liana whispered, tapping his nose lightly and returning to her composed, lovely smile as if nothing had happened.
Gloria, nearby with a cup of juice, didnât even look up. âHeâs lucky you only poked one eye this time.â
âIf it were me,â Gloria said calmly, sipping her drink, âIâd gouge your eyes out, young master.â
Javier froze.
His shoulders stiffened. His mouth opened slightly⊠but no words came out.
Inside his mindâ
ââŠI didnât even look at anyone⊠What did I do to deserve this? Are they jealous or overprotective? Or both?!â
He glanced around.
The elven maidens nearby avoided eye contact with him. One even turned completely around, pretending to admire a flower pot.
âSeriously?!â Javier groaned inwardly. âI didnât even try to flirt this time! And now they believe what Liana and Gloria said? UghâŠâ
He let out a small defeated sigh.
ââŠLike I ever made anyone pregnant⊠I donât even have the chance to do it yetâŠâ
Javier slumped slightly in his seat, eyes blank.
Liana casually leaned on his shoulder, smiling.
âYouâre thinking something stupid again, arenât you, young master~?â
ââŠNo,â Javier muttered.
âLiar~â she and Gloria said in unison.
Javier glanced around the courtyard, eyes scanning the crowd.
He furrowed his brows.
âWhereâs BuddyâŠ?â
Lianaâs voice slid in smoothly beside him, sweet yet laced with danger.
âYoung master~ looking at girls again?â
âN-No, LianaâIâm looking for Buddy!â Javier defended.
Gloria raised an eyebrow. âThatâs a new one.â
âSeriously! I just want to check if heâsââ
âBehind you, young master~,â Liana chimed, still smiling innocently.
âHuh?â Javier blinked and turned his head.
His eyes widened.
Buddy, his majestic orange Pekko, was indeed standing behind him, puffing his chest proudly.
Before Javier could react further, a sharp jab landed cleanly in his stomach.
His whole body jolted forward slightly, clutching his gut.
âGuhhâ!!â
Lianaâs fist had struck with precision, all while her face remained terrifyingly serene.
âNow, now, young master~â she cooed, tilting her head sweetly.
âI-Itâs true! I swear I wasnât looking at any girls this time! I really was looking for Buddy!!â
âYes, yes~ Like we believe that,â Gloria said calmly, arms crossed.
âYou always say that~â Liana added, gently adjusting his collar again with an unnerving smile.
Liana smiled sweetly, but her fingers pinched Javierâs cheek just enough to make him wince.
âDonât blame us, young master⊠you started all of this~â
Gloria calmly sipped her juice beside them. âIndeed. You were the one who made all those promisesâŠâ
âAnd now,â Liana continued, still smiling dangerously, âweâve decided itâs in our best interest to keep you in check. For everyoneâs safety, of course~â
âY-You two sound like villains,â Javier muttered.
Liana leaned in, whispering beside his ear, âYou did promise to make us your brides, remember?â
Javier froze, caught.
âAnd let me warn you, young master,â Liana said, her tone suddenly cool. âIf you donât want us⊠just say it now. Weâre not going to wait forever. Weâll find another candidate~â
âNO!!â Javier jumped from his seat, eyes wide. âYou both are mine!!â
Gloria raised an eyebrow. âOh myâŠâ
Liana blinked in surprise, then smiled slowly. âGood⊠then itâs settled~â
She leaned on his arm again, satisfied.
Gloria chuckled softly and rested her head on his other shoulder.
âOur young master finally said something right~â
Liana gently tapped her thigh, the signal clear.
âYoung masterâŠâ
Javier smiled softly and didnât hesitate. He scooted his chair closer, then laid his head down on her lap, closing his eyes in contentment.
Liana smiled, her fingers brushing through his hair tenderly.
âGood boy~â
She gazed down at himâhis face so close, so calm. The soft breeze played with a few strands of his hair, and in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Inside , her thoughts whispered fiercely:
You are ours, young masterâŠ
I will never let anyone else have you before me and Gloria.
Donât even think about running. Because this heartâthis foolish heartâhas already fallen too deep for you.
And Iâll make sureâŠ
Our promise will be fulfilled.
Liana smiled softly as Gloria brought her chair close, settling beside them. With a gentle hand, Gloria began caressing Javierâs hair, her touch delicate and soothing.
Javier had already fallen asleepâhis breathing slow and peaceful. Maybe it was the relief, or maybe just exhaustion after that reckless solo journey across kingdoms.
Buddy, his loyal Pekko, was nearby. The big bird casually reached over Javierâs plate and helped himself to the leftovers, pecking with quiet satisfaction.
âAhem.â
Liana looked up.
Her expression didnât change even when she saw her mother standing there.
âLiana,â Viessa said, her tone calm but firm, âyour father is calling.â
Lianaâs voice was steady, her hand never leaving Javierâs head.
âIâm sorry, Mother,â she replied softly. âBut Iâm attending to this boy first.â
Viessa raised her fan, ready to give Lianaâs forehead a light smack as any stern mother would.
But then she paused.
Liana wasnât being cheeky or rebelliousâher face was serene, calm and serious.
That made Viessa lower her hand. She studied her daughterâs expression for a moment, then glanced at the boy sleeping peacefully on her lap.
âThis boy⊠heâs Gariusâs son, isnât he?â
âYes,â Liana answered without hesitation.
Viessa narrowed her eyes slightly. âWhat is he to both of you?â
Liana didnât flinch. Instead, she smiled faintly, her hand still brushing Javierâs hair gently.
âWe are his future brides,â she said softly. âAnd we are in love with this boy.â
Viessa blinked. âBut Mylezra said heâs still thirteen.â
âHe is,â Liana nodded. âBut next month, he turns fourteen. Only four more years before heâs officially an adult by human standard. Besides⊠the marriage laws never specify age. They only speak of consent.â
Viessa was silent.
âAnd he already said,â Liana added with a quiet pride, âthat he will marry us both when he turns eighteen. So⊠we wait.â
Viessa folded her arms. Her voice lowered, firm but not harsh.
ââŠWhat if we, your parents, donât agree?â
Liana didnât flinch. She simply smiled.
âIâll just run away again,â she said, calm as ever.
Viessaâs brow twitched. âYou said heâs a womanizer.â
âHm? Yes,â Liana replied, as if stating the weather. âBecause we werenât around to control him. Or maybe itâs just his way to get our attention. He wasnât like that before⊠he used to be clingyâalways following us around, calling us pretty.â
She glanced at Javier, eyes soft.
âAnd believe me, Mother, most of the Armand family never cared much for status. Their nobles marry more than oneâitâs normal. Lady Francesca, his mother, already knows about us. Lord Garius too. They didnât object.â
Viessa stayed silent.
Gloria finally spoke, her tone gentle but unwavering.
âWe know what kind of man he is. And weâre not choosing him out of fantasy or rebellion. We chose him because⊠we love him.â
âAnd he loves us,â Liana added, brushing Javierâs cheek with her knuckle.
