Swish, swish, swish!
Rockets laden with pine oil continued to shoot towards the bank, as more fires raged within.
"Put out the fire, quickly!"
The anxious cries to fight the fires, hurried footsteps, and the sound of water being splashed were all evidence of the chaos within the bank.
"Remember, only create chaos, thereâs no need to fight them to the death." Meng Wu made two gestures, dividing his subordinates into two teams, with one group of eight heading towards the corner gate and the rear door.
These two teams were merely a distraction; the real task of burning the farmer contracts was up to Meng Wu.
Meng Wu was the leader of these Assassins, the most skilled, and capable of acting alone, which was quicker and more convenient than sending a team to burn the contracts.
The two teams had remarkable skills, sneaking into the bank in the blink of an eye.
Moments later, the sounds of fighting erupted, with the Ouyang Familyâs Shadow Guards and the Dou Familyâs Shadow Guards clashing with the two teams at the rear and corner gates.
"Someoneâs snuck in, capture them alive!"
"Yes!"
Followed by the clang of weapons clashing, upon careful listening, one could even hear the sound of knives slicing through flesh.
Meng Wu wasnât in a rush, staying hidden in place, until...
"Fierce bandits have arrived, attacking the city to steal Silver, everyone run!" came an inexplicable shout from the bank entrance.
The townsfolk who had queued overnight to borrow money were terrified, originally intending to rush into the bank to help, but now too scared to move.
"Donât panic, there are no fierce bandits attacking the city, donât fall into the schemerâs trap!"
"What do you mean, no bandits? Who are you fooling? The bank is on fire, and rockets are coming from elsewhere. With so many rockets flying, weâd believe if you said it was an army."
"Donât listen to those soldiers, they have armor and knives to protect them, but weâve got nothing, run quickly."
Meng Wu chuckled at this, everything was in chaos at the front, rear, corner gates, and inside the bank. The moment had arrived.
Whish!
Like the wind, Meng Wu swiftly infiltrated the bank, heading straight for the room housing the farmer loan contracts.
This room was made of green bricks and dark tiles, unaffected by the fire, and because other areas of the bank were ablaze, most of the Protectors who were guarding it had left, leaving only two behind.
The two had some skills, but Meng Wu didnât regard them as a threat. He was the leader of the Assassins, his skills forged through heaps of corpses, never taking these second-rate Protectors seriously.
Meng Wu originally intended to swiftly kill the two Protectors, but as an Assassin, he prioritized his main objective: to destroy the contracts between the farmers and the bank.
Meng Wu temporarily spared them, sneaking under the window of the room, using a Dagger to pry it open.
With a crack, the window opened, Meng Wu sneered, disassembled the window, and leaped inside. Before his feet touched the ground, he sensed a killing intent... it was an ambush!
Whoosh!
A person wielded a long knife, striking towards his face. Meng Wu twisted mid-air, forcibly changing direction to evade the lethal strike.
Yet the attacker reacted swiftly, quickly drawing another long knife, and with immense strength, chopped off one of Meng Wuâs arms with a snap.
"Ah!" Despite his resilience, even Meng Wu let out a pained scream, shocked by his opponentâs ferocity.
How was it possible? Even with immense strength, it shouldnât be easy to sever his arm in one strike.
He was wearing soft armor under his clothes, though not as good as heavy armor, it was not something a knife could easily penetrate.
Whoosh!
The attacker didnât pause after one strike, swiftly turning to stab again, piercing Meng Wuâs shoulder blade, pinning him to the wall, then rapidly dislocating his jaw to prevent him from taking poison and committing suicide.
In a moment of absent-mindedness, Meng Wu was defeated.
Drip, drip, fresh blood poured from his severed arm onto the ground, but Meng Wu didnât even glance at his severed limb, fixating on his attacker, trying to discern who it was.
But the room was pitch black, and he couldnât see the attackerâs face.
Soon, the attacker used a Fire Stick to light a candle in the room, revealing a cold, stern face in front of Meng Wu.
This person turned out to be... the Company Commander stationed at the bankâs main gate!
When did this Company Commander enter the bank? How did he know Meng Wu would come here to destroy the contracts?
Daring to ambush him alone, was it supreme confidence in skill or disdain for him, the leader of the Meng Familyâs Assassins?!
Meng Wu had many questions, but with his jaw dislocated, he couldnât speak.
Qin San Lang shouted towards the door: "Inform Young Master Dou, the person has been captured. Thereâs a live one, no need to capture the two groups used as bait, just kill them, quickly."
Capturing Assassins alive would require much effort, it was faster to kill them.
Then added: "Those at the Hu Familyâs old house launching rockets neednât be captured, just burn the building down, Young Master Dou can afford that bit of Silver."
Currently, the fire at the bank wasnât severe, they could extinguish it, but if rockets continued from the Hu Familyâs old house, extinguishing the fire would be difficult.
The ones launching rockets were well-trained; catching them would take time, burning the Hu Familyâs old house was quicker.
Without the building, how could they launch rockets from a high place?
"Understood." The two Protectors guarding the entrance finally relaxed, Young Master was right, Company Commander Qin was formidable, with him ambushing in the room, even ten thousand fierce bandits wouldnât stand a chance.
Hey, you really believe that? Didnât you notice your Young Master exaggerating?
No one can stand against ten thousand people.
Anyway, theyâd caught the person, so they could rest easy.
The two hurried off in different directions to inform the Ouyang Familyâs and Dou Familyâs Shadow Guards.
You Ping heard their master had captured someone, so he rushed out with the others, quickly capturing the Assassins that stormed the bank with the Ouyang Familyâs and Dou Familyâs Shadow Guards.
Out of sixteen people, nine died, leaving seven alive.
The seven had their jaws dislocated, extracting the poison hidden in their teeth.
"Tsk tsk, being an Assassin isnât easy, having to remove a molar to hide poison. How do you eat? Do you take out the poison when eating?" Young Master Dou looked at these Assassins, his face playful.
Then with a rip, he slashed their clothes, searching under their armpits, finding a wound with freshly scabbed blood, and smirked: "The Meng Witch is really meticulous, removing your Meng family brand before sending you out. Too bad if you think this means I have no evidence."
This obvious ploy was evidence enough; if he made a scene about the wound that once bore the Meng family crest, the old man would compromise for the Dou Familyâs reputation.
Upon hearing this, the Assassins were shocked, the Young Master Dou had indeed figured out they were sent by the lady.
