"If you donât have that kind of money then get lost. Iâm telling you, Iâll definitely sell it for this price in the next few days, youâll regret it to death." The fat man pointed at the couple across from him who were here to see the house, pushing at them to hurry them away.
"What would I regret? There are plenty of houses out there, I donât need your damn place. Itâs not that I donât have money, even if I did I wouldnât buy your house." The mediumâbuilt man yanked hard at the fat man beside him.
The fat man was clumsy, and with that one yank he was pulled straight down to the ground. Now he wasnât having it; his family members on the side rushed up and punched the mediumâbuilt man.
With that, the two families started fighting because they couldnât close the deal on a house.
The mediumâbuilt man only had a woman with him, while the fat man had brought two other men. Once they started fighting they were no match at all. The outcome could be imagined.
"Stop fighting, I beg you, stop fighting. We know we were wrong, just stop now, weâll leave right away." The woman with the mediumâbuilt man was frantic beside them, unable to get close; whenever she tried to go in she was shoved to the ground. Her man was getting beaten badly.
"Xiao Wan, have you noticed that womanâs back looks kind of familiar?" Su Ling narrowed her eyes at the melee in front and tugged on Lin Wanâs sleeve.
Pei Bai chimed in on the side, "Yeah, I feel like Iâve seen her somewhere. Could she be from our town?" Pei Bai thought theyâd run into a fellow townsman or something.
The woman had her back to them; Lin Wan really couldnât see clearly, but she also felt she looked familiar.
"No..." Lin Wan was just about to say she hadnât seen her before when the woman suddenly turned around, startling all three of them.
Su Lingâs mouth dropped open; she almost cried out, then quickly covered it and said, "Xiao Wan, how did that cousin of yours suddenly show up here? And the one getting beaten is your cousinâinâlaw, right? Should we go help?"
Lin Wan was also very surprised; she hadnât expected to run into Zhang Dandan here. But when Lin Wan looked at the man she immediately frowned and said, "Thatâs not Zhang Dandanâs husband. Her husband works at the grain and oil station in our town, and heâs tall and skinny. This guy is obviously the wrong height."
"Huh, did your cousin get divorced?" Pei Bai had an idea, but was embarrassed to say it outright.
"Divorced my ass. After Zhang Dandan got married, sheâs been tangled up with some man for years. I figure this must be the âsweetheartâ the family keeps talking about. I just donât know why the two of them showed up here, and theyâre even trying to buy a place. Could they also have found out this area is going to be redeveloped?"
"Hard to say. Plenty of people in the Land Bureau know about that document." Hu Dong said in a low voice.
"Oh..." All kinds of thoughts flashed through their minds.
"So are we helping or not?" Pei Bai looked at the fight that still hadnât stopped and asked worriedly.
"No. Iâm not getting involved in her crap." Lin Wan frowned. "She brought this on herself. Her family conditions were good and she wouldnât live a proper life. Always reaching above her station, wanting to live like sheâs above everyone else without having the ability for it. Sheâs made such a mess these past few years she even lost her teaching job. Her sonâs already pretty big now. Thereâs not a soul in town who doesnât know about her. If she goes back now, everyone will be out for her blood. All the neighbors on the street are on her husbandâs side."
"Itâs been so many years and even all the neighbors know. Her husbandâs really been swallowing his anger. If it were me, Iâd beat her till she behaved." Su Ling ground her teeth at the sight of Zhang Dandan; to this day she still held a grudge over what Zhang Dandan had done.
"Iâm not too clear on it either. I just heard from my family that he hits her often. Every time Zhang Dandan comes home, her husband beats her especially hard. She just doesnât learn; she still keeps running off. I figure that man canât bear for his kid to be without a mother, so heâs been dragging it out like this. These past years Zhang Dandan has run off and come back, come back and run off againâno one even knows how many times. Itâs become routine."
"She deserves a beating, but Iâve really never seen anyone like her. Gets beaten that badly and still wonât behave. If she likes fooling around with that guy so much, she might as well get a divorce and just live with him, wouldnât that be simpler?" As a man, Hu Dong didnât overthink it.
"That manâs obviously married. His family definitely doesnât want a divorce. Either that, or he just wants the thrill and is only playing with her."
"Su Ling, your analysis is spot on. The woman in his family definitely wonât let those two dogs have it easy and divorce him just like that. This man must be good at making money; the money they earned at home those last few years has all been controlled by that wife of his. So heâs not going to divorce her easily." Sheâd heard this from her aunt back home on the phone. The whole family was practically driven mad by Zhang Dandan.
They said her eldest uncle almost cut ties with Liang Weixiang over this.
"If it were me, Iâd do the same. Thereâs not a good one between those two." Su Ling said, then she smiled at the few of them, lifted her chin with a smug little grin. "Just watch me."
Then she walked up to the owner and said, "Brother, youâre selling this place?"
The owner immediately pulled his attention away from the fight. They were here to sell the house today, not to wrestle with some deadbeats. Seeing Su Ling, he quickly put on a smile and said, "Yeah, this place is a fixed price, eighteen thousand. Donât mind the shabby courtyard; once you fix it up, thereâs no problem living here at all. Around here, for a house like this, this price is already on the low side. If you donât believe me, you can go ask around. Iâd never rip anyone off."
