Chapter 577: Thoughts Exposed

The brother and sister just packed up their medical books, when Mrs. Du and Cheng Liying walked in: "The dishes are ready, let’s eat first."

Xinyan put the book into her backpack: "Shimu, the timing is just right, I’ve been smelling the aroma of dry pot meat for ages, it’s making my mouth water."

These words made Mrs. Du and Cheng Liying laugh heartily: "You, you’re just a little glutton."

The three went ahead to the dining room, laughing and chatting, Mrs. Du and Cheng Liying asked: "Yanyan, your third elder sister is visiting tonight, do you want to stay over?"

Mrs. Du shouted towards the courtyard: "Old man, it’s time to eat."

Then she turned back to Xinyan and continued: "She said there’s no need to wait for her, she has taken over a patient, she has to arrange it before she can leave."

Mr. Du came in, washed his hands, and sat down.

Mrs. Du said rather disdainfully: "It’s just a broken bird, you fiddle with it all day, aren’t you tired?"

Mr. Du laughed and said: "You just don’t understand, I call it a parrot, it’s not a broken bird, after some training, it might even start talking."

Mrs. Du played along: "Alright, alright, alright, it’s a smart parrot, you keep neglecting your proper business, soon enough it’ll be chatting with you."

Mr. Du realized his wife was hinting her disapproval of him spending too much time training the parrot: "I’m just thinking if I train it well, you can use it for entertainment."

Mrs. Du saw his guilty expression: "I know you, aren’t you trying to get it to speak soon to compete with Old Man Liang and Old Man Mu’s parrots?"

Mr. Du noticed she didn’t leave him any face, directly exposing his thoughts, feeling a bit embarrassed: "Let’s eat, the dishes are getting cold."

Saying this, he didn’t forget to signal the two apprentices.

Xinyan caught her Master’s plea for help and laughed: "Shimu, I’m hungry, why don’t we eat first, and you can criticize Shifu later."

These words made Mrs. Du and Ma Chengxi laugh outright.

Mr. Du retorted, blowing his beard and glaring: "You little rascal."

Xinyan quickly served a bowl of mushroom soup to Shifu: "Shifu, have some soup first."

Mrs. Du watching them clown around commented with a smile: "Alright, let’s eat first."

They smiled and chatted as they ate.

During the meal, the eldest brother Ma Chengxi mentioned his idea of having Xinyan take a vacation to the hospital to observe and practice.

Mr. Du glanced at Xinyan: "Girl, I know your aspirations are not in medicine, but you shouldn’t waste your talent, you don’t have to walk this path, but I still hope you can be proficient in everything, make a name for yourself, don’t let our master-apprentice relationship go to waste."

Mr. Du didn’t want to use their relationship to force Xinyan, he just wanted to see her limits and didn’t want her to learn in vain, staying only theoretical which would be pointless.

Xinyan understood her Master’s intention: "Shifu, rest assured, I will accept Shi xiong’s suggestion, strive to observe and practice more at the hospital in the future, aim for excellence, whether in theory or actual operations, when the time comes your apprentice will surely make you proud."

Mr. Du was gratified, knowing Xinyan wasn’t joking: "Good, Shifu is waiting for that day."

Xinyan had figured it out a long time ago, since she decided to learn, she couldn’t just be half-hearted, she had to strive for perfection, making a name for herself rather than staying in mediocrity, never letting Shifu down.
