Chapter 588: No Need to Thank Me

Watching the ambulance drive away and the sky lightening up, Xinyan decided she might as well not continue practicing and headed back to her room.

But it seemed Shao Rongrong was truly exhausted from yesterday, as she still hadn’t woken up when Xinyan returned. Xinyan approached and gently nudged her, "Shao Rongrong, it’s time to get up."

Shao Rongrong was older than Xinyan by a few years. Originally, Xinyan was supposed to call her Sister Shao, but she insisted on just being called Shao Rongrong.

Hearing her faint response, Xinyan went into the bathroom. By the time she came out ready, Shao Rongrong was still in bed and asked groggily, "What time is it?"

Xinyan glanced at her wristwatch, "It’s seven-thirty. You better get up and get ready. The restaurant’s open for breakfast now."

The team leader had mentioned yesterday about meeting in the lobby at a quarter past eight.

As soon as Shao Rongrong heard it was seven-thirty, she immediately sat up, "Good thing you’re sharing a room with me; otherwise, I would have been late for sure."

Watching Shao Rongrong rush into the bathroom, Xinyan called out, "I’ll wait for you at the restaurant. Be quick."

Xinyan generally disliked being in a hurry, given that unexpected situations could arise at any moment.

Shao Rongrong mumbled a response, "Okay."

Xinyan put on her jacket and left the room.

By the time she arrived at the restaurant, there weren’t too many people eating yet. With her work ID, Xinyan got a bowl of soy milk, an egg, a meat bun, and a small plate of mixed vegetables at the window.

She found a quiet place to sit down and started eating.

Just as she was about to finish, someone approached her, "Miss, didn’t expect to see you here again. May I sit here?"

Xinyan looked at the person approaching, immediately recognized them, and nodded, "Hello, how’s the old gentleman doing?"

Doctor Fu sat across from her, "Luckily, he was sent in time. I have to thank you for stopping that staff member from shaking the old gentleman... oh, I mean the old comrade."

Xinyan waved her hand, "I just gave a reminder, didn’t do much. No need to thank me."

Doctor Fu didn’t see it that way, "Don’t be so modest. If you hadn’t stopped that staff member from shaking the injured person, the situation could have been worse."

After saying that, Doctor Fu introduced himself to Xinyan, "By the way, my surname is Fu. I’m a doctor from Beijing First People’s Hospital, temporarily assigned here for work."

Now it made sense to her why a doctor from the First People’s Hospital was with the hotel manager—it was temporary support.

Thinking of her senior brother, who also worked at the First People’s Hospital, they were colleagues, but Xinyan didn’t say it out loud.

From Doctor Fu, she learned that the old gentleman had fallen while out for morning exercise. He had fallen down some steps, injuring his head and fracturing his lumbar spine. Fortunately, Xinyan’s intervention prevented further injury.

After finishing their talk, Doctor Fu asked, "Do you know medicine?"

Xinyan smiled, "I’m learning."

Doctor Fu nodded at her, "Are you a medical student?"

Xinyan shook her head, "No, it’s a personal interest. I’m learning from a mentor."

Doctor Fu was surprised and was about to ask more when someone hurried over, "Xinyan, I made it in time for breakfast."

Seeing a girl with a tray coming over, Doctor Fu asked, "Is this your friend?"

Shao Rongrong, hearing the question, glanced at Xinyan then at Doctor Fu, asking Xinyan, "Do you know him?"

Xinyan explained, "While I was out exercising this morning, an old gentleman fell, and I helped a bit. Doctor Fu was in charge of the first aid at that time."

After hearing Xinyan’s explanation, Shao Rongrong smiled and extended her hand, "Hello, I’m Shao Rongrong, Xinyan’s colleague."

Doctor Fu nodded slightly at her, "Hello."

With that, he stopped talking and began eating his food.

Xinyan checked her watch, "Rongrong, are you going back to the room?"

Shao Rongrong shook her head, "No time. I’ll head straight to the lobby after breakfast."

Hearing this, Xinyan said, "I’ll go back to the room to get my bag. See you in the lobby later."

Shao Rongrong nodded, "Okay."

Xinyan bid farewell to Doctor Fu and left the restaurant.
