Watching Granny Zhang calm down, the two of them had dinner chatting and laughing.
Granny Zhang didnât let Xinyan help anymore, instead urging her to quickly tidy up and go to her mentor to learn medicine.
Xinyan helped carry the dishes to the kitchen and playfully said, "Alright, Iâll go and come back early."
Granny Zhang watched Xinyan leave the courtyard before she returned to the kitchen to tidy up. These days, sheâs had a feeling that something was about to happen.
Xinyan left the courtyard and headed towards her mentorâs place.
A few days ago, Mistress Cheng Liying mentioned that her little grandson was coming back to the Capital from out of town.
Judging from the time, he should be arriving soon.
On her way there, she found a secluded spot and took out the food she had prepared in advance, including pears and apples from her space, as well as her homemade candied fruits and spiced eggs.
She had just reached the front gate when she heard laughter from inside.
As soon as she entered the courtyard, her sharp-eyed mentor spotted her: "Yanyan, come in quickly, let me introduce you to someone."
Ah, thereâs no doubt now, it must be the little grandson that her mentor and mistress have been eagerly anticipating.
She took a few steps into the room and saw a tall woman picking up a young child from the sofa.
The mistress pulled Xinyan over: "Come, come, come, this is Sister Lingyun whom I often mention to you, and this is her son, Chen Yuxuan, nicknamed Xuanxuan."
Xinyan smiled and greeted them, "Hello, Sister Lingyun, Iâve often heard my mentor and mistress talk about you all."
Du Lingyun smiled as she looked Xinyan up and down: "So youâre Xinyan. Theyâve often praised you during phone calls. Itâs nice to finally meet you in person."
Xinyan placed the items she was carrying on the table and looked at the small Xuanxuan in Du Lingyunâs arms, "Hello there, little guy."
When Xinyan first met her mentor and mistress on the train, they were visiting their daughter and grandson. She didnât anticipate the deep connections they shared.
Little Chen Yuxuan stared at Xinyan with his big round eyes, but when Xinyan playfully interacted with him, he dove into his momâs arms instead.
Everyone in the room chuckled.
Du Lingyun, as the mother, laughed and said, "Chen Yuxuan, you little coward, werenât you just staring at her? But when Aunt Yan played with you, why did you get shy?"
Xinyan turned and took an apple from her bag: "Xuanxuan, see what Iâm holding?"
The little guy didnât immediately turn his head but leaned against his momâs chest, sneakily glanced at the apple in Xinyanâs hand, then buried his face back into his momâs arms.
Du Lingyun teased him: "Son, youâre supposed to be a little man, whyâre you acting all coy?"
And then put her son down: "Come on, give Aunt Yan a greeting."
The little guy cooperated this time, leaning against his mom: "Auntie, hello."
His expression was incredibly cute.
Xinyan laughed and handed over the apple: "This is for you."
The little guy didnât take it immediately but turned to glance at his mom.
Du Lingyun smiled at him and said, "If you want it, go ahead and take it, but what should you say to Aunt Yan?"
The little guy turned back, speaking in his childish voice: "Thank you, Auntie."
After saying that, he reached out to take the apple, then turned to his mom: "Mom, eat."
This whole interaction charmed everyone in the room.
Just as Cheng Liying, the mistress, was about to get up to take the apple to the kitchen to cut it, they heard Shen Guqingâs voice from outside: "Mistress, is Lingyun and Xuanxuan back?"
The voice reached inside before the person did.
