He Jinxuan had the key to the small courtyard and went straight there after leaving Qin Peiyiâs place.
Thinking that he would soon need to go out again, before leaving Beijing, he wanted to tell Xinyan to be careful.
As he walked, the alcohol also sobered up.
When he arrived at the small courtyard, Xinyan had already gone to her teacherâs place to learn.
Seeing it was still early, he poured himself a glass of water to drink before planning to head to the backyard to use the bathroom.
But when he got to the backyard and saw the two small vegetable plots, he thought Xinyan had been busy recently and probably hadnât had time to water them.
After watering all the vegetable plots, he was fully sober. Checking the time, he figured Xinyan would be coming out by the time he got there.
When he arrived at the Du Family, Xinyan had just come out of the study: "Jinxuan, why are you here?"
He Jinxuan saw the surprise in Xinyanâs eyes and felt it was all worthwhile: "Iâll be going out again tomorrow, so I came by to tell you."
Mr. Du heard this and thought to himself: Why not just call? Why take the trouble to come over?
While He Jinxuan was greeting Mr. Du, Xinyan took out two thirty-year-old ginseng she had prepared in advance from her bag and handed them to Du Lingyun, who had just come from the backyard: "Sister Lingyun, here are the ginseng you wanted."
Du Lingyun was planning to go back in a few days. She had meant to ask for them earlier but felt a bit embarrassed: "Xinyan, thank you so much. How much do I owe you?"
Xinyan didnât hold back: "These ginseng arenât very high in age. I got them directly from the diggers; just a hundred and sixty yuan will do."
Du Lingyun took out two hundred yuan, saying the rest was for those who helped. Xinyan didnât accept it and instead took out prepared change from her pocket and handed it to Du Lingyun.
Knowing Xinyanâs personality, Du Lingyun had no choice but to thank her again and let it be.
Then she turned to her father: "Dad, would you please help me make some ginseng wine?"
Mr. Du did not refuse, as it was something that had been agreed upon earlier.
Xinyan thought about He Jinxuan having to leave again tomorrow and that it was already late, so she didnât linger much longer: "Teacher, Madam, Sister Lingyun, weâre leaving now."
After saying goodbye, the two finally left.
Once they were far away, Xinyan asked: "Did you come straight here or did you stop by the small courtyard first?"
He Jinxuan looked around before saying: "I came from Qin Peiyiâs house."
Upon hearing Qin Peiyi, Xinyanâs eyes lit up: "How did it go, any news?"
He Jinxuan nodded to her and lowered his voice: "The people following you are all connected to the Miao Family and the Wei Family in East City. Do you know about those families?"
Upon hearing Miao Family and Wei Family, Xinyanâs face immediately darkened.
He Jinxuan saw her expression: "You know these families?"
Xinyan nodded gently, speaking softly: "Theyâre the ones who forced my grandparents to take my mom to flee abroad."
He Jinxuan didnât expect these families to be related to the Gu Family: "What do they mean by this, not letting the Gu Familyâs descendants off?"
Xinyan didnât want He Jinxuan to worry: "Itâs alright, today isnât like those years ago, they dare not mess around, donât worry.
However, you have to go out tomorrow, we should wait until you get back and discuss it with my parents."
He Jinxuan nodded: "Alright, whatever you say, but make sure you stay safe."
Xinyan smirked lightly: "If they dare to jump in front of me, theyâll have no return."
