Xinyan greeted them with a smile: "Dad, Uncle Su."
Han Jingchen didnât say anything, just smiled as he watched his daughter approach.
Su Jingsong gave Xinyan a thumbs-up: "Yanyan, well done."
Xinyan smiled gracefully: "Thank you for the compliment, Uncle Su. But this is just the beginning, Iâll keep working hard."
Han Jingchen looked at his confident and poised daughter, jokingly teased: "You sure arenât modest."
Xinyan stepped forward, linking her arm with Han Jingchenâs: "Talking with family, I speak the truth, no need to be modest."
After saying that, she smiled and asked Su Jingsong: "Isnât that right, Uncle Su?"
Su Jingsong looked at the playful Xinyan and nodded with a smile: "Indeed."
Han Jingchen raised his hand and lightly tapped Xinyanâs forehead: "You!"
Xinyan took the two inside, showing them around the shop and even the main road being repaired, discussing the plan to turn the three-compartment courtyard into commercial spaces.
Su Jingsong took a look: "Who wouldâve thought, after buying the place not long ago, the official documents came out to open this road. You really made a worthwhile purchase."
Xinyan beamed with pride: "Of course, itâs my lucky day."
The three of them stood by the road under construction, discussing matters about converting the courtyard into shops, and then returned to the car.
Xinyan gave Ling Tianze and Chen Manjuan a few words of advice before getting into the car and leaving.
As the car passed by the cinema, Xinyan spotted a familiar figure: "Dad, isnât that my cousin over there?"
Han Jingchen followed his daughterâs direction and indeed saw his niece, Sun Zhenling, with a man beside her: "Isnât that the Yuan Yikai Zhenling mentioned last time?"
Xinyan shook her head: "I havenât seen Yuan Yikai, but judging from cousinâs annoying expression, probably."
Su Jingsong slowed the car: "Should we stop and say hello?"
Xinyan looked at Han Jingchen, seeking a decision with her eyes.
Han Jingchen shook his head: "No need, Zhenling will be at our place tomorrow, we can ask then. Better not to interrupt them now."
Looking at them, they seemed to have just come out of the movies, both seemed unperturbed.
However, Xinyan thought of calling Sun Zhenling later, before returning home, to check up on them.
Gu Wanqing heard the noise of parking outside and quickly walked out.
Han Jingchen watched her rush out and hurriedly walked faster to greet her: "Oh dear, take it slow, you ancestor."
Han Jingchen reached out to steady her, Gu Wanqing glanced unblinkingly at Xinyan walking in behind, and called out somewhat anxiously: "Yanyan."
Xinyan felt a bit disappointed when she learned her mom was pregnant, though she understood it wasnât easy for her parents after being apart for so many years.
For someone like her, who had gone through life and death, she saw through many things and was easy to accept.
With mom and dadâs strengths, even having a few more kids wouldnât be a burden, besides, she never expected anything from them anyway, no fear of losing favor or having to share anything.
Xinyan stepped forward, gently raised her hand to embrace Gu Wanqing: "Donât overthink, focus on nurturing the baby."
Gu Wanqing hugged her daughter back: "Thank you, Yanyan."
Once the three entered the living room, Gu Wanqing fetched a document bag from the bedroom and handed it to Xinyan.
Xinyan took it, puzzled: "Whatâs this?"
Gu Wanqing smiled lightly: "Open it and see."
Under Gu Wanqingâs prompting, Xinyan opened the document bag and took out the contents. Seeing what was inside, she was stunned.
