They stopped only when they reached the entrance of the teaching building, turned their heads to look back simultaneously.
They saw Cao Haiping standing there, frozen, as if lost in thought.
Exchanging amused glances, they stepped into the teaching building.
"That guy really has no shame," Jiang Peiqin said disdainfully, "Youâre just too kind-hearted. Just give him a taste of his own medicine."
Xinyan thought: Tidying him up quietly, isnât that even better? Besides, I just realized something was off.
Even though Iâve lived another life, my brainâs slow to react in some ways.
Otherwise, I wouldnât have only noticed the oddities these past few days, thatâs why I called He Jinxuan to try to dissuade a few people. As it turns out, they werenât simple suitors.
I originally thought that after He Jinxuanâs visit yesterday, these people would tone down a bit.
Didnât expect Cao Haiping to not take He Jinxuan seriously at all; look at that Bai Xiaoguang, isnât he smarter?
See, he didnât wander over today.
But clearly, I was overthinking things.
Bai Xiaoguang truly is smarter than him, and as soon as he got the news, he decided to change tactics.
Knowing that Han Xinyan brought her fiancĂ© over to deter them, he thought he shouldnât rush things, lest haste makes waste and fails the task even more.
He didnât come this morning but arranged for someone to trail Xinyan, planning to âaccidentallyâ meet her outside the school.
At noon after class, Xinyan was called over by Professor Tao.
In the office, Professor Tao pulled out a foreign language book from a drawer: "This is a book on mechanics sent by the publisher. I know youâre busy with studies now, but the deadline for translating this book is quite lenientâyou can submit it after the new year."
After saying that, he handed the book to Xinyan: "When youâre tired of studying, you can translate a few pages. With your ability, Iâm confident you can complete it on time."
Xinyan knew the professor meant well. After all, translating a professional foreign-language book pays quite a bit nowadays, so she accepted with a smile: "Thank you, Professor, Iâll definitely finish it on time."
The publisher indeed gave ample time, but their requirements are high too. Professor Tao assigned it to Xinyan after careful consideration, knowing her accuracy is high and that she hasnât translated many books this semester. The translation fee for this book is higher than others, so naturally, it made sense to take care of his most proud student.
He just didnât know that his prized student is already a small business owner with four little shops.
Even the smallest mosquito is still meat, and since Professor Tao meant well, Xinyan certainly wouldnât refuse.
When she returned to the dorm with the book, everyone was getting ready to head to the cafeteria for lunch.
Seeing her come in, Jiang Peiqin deliberately asked: "Want to join us for lunch in the cafeteria today?"
Xinyan didnât answer yet when she noticed a student she didnât recognize standing in the dorm.
Bai Aiwen immediately understood and explained: "This is Tang Congrong, she transferred from the Russian Language Department to our Western Language Department German class. Since thereâs an empty bed in our dorm, sheâs been arranged to stay here."
Tang Congrong looked over at just that moment: "Hello Han Xinyan, Iâm Tang Congrong. Please take care of me in the future."
Xinyan nodded at her: "Hello, I donât stay in the dorm, and weâre not in the same class, so âtaking careâ doesnât quite apply."
Ever since He Jinxuan told her those people who kept appearing in front of her were arranged by certain families, sheâs been very wary.
This Tang Congrong transferring from the Russian Department to their dorm, specifically room 306, doesnât seem coincidental.
Tang Congrong didnât expect Han Xinyan to be so blunt but kept her composure: "Your straightforwardness is refreshing; I quite like it. Hope we get along well."
Xinyan smiled and put the book in her cabinet, then turned to Jiang Peiqin: "Letâs go, letâs head downstairs together."
Being the big sister of the dorm, Cui Haili said to the newly arrived Tang Congrong: "You go on and unpack, weâre heading to the cafeteria."
Tang Congrong nodded, acknowledged her, and once everyone else left the dorm, she threw the pillow cover she was holding onto the bed and sat down. She really didnât understand what her family was thinking, having her switch departments so late in the semester. Itâs infuriating.
Thinking of Han Xinyanâs wary expression and recalling her familyâs instructions, all she felt was a headache.
Downstairs, Xinyan said to her dormmates who were walking together, "Letâs have dinner at that new restaurant outside campus this evening, all right?"
Bai Aiwen smiled and said: "Yes, definitely, the food there is really good; youâll definitely like it."
The others nodded, and Zhang Zhaodi teased: "Then weâll let your fiancĂ© spend some money tonight."
Xinyan joked back with a smile: "Itâs fine; he can handle a meal or two. Make sure to have your fill."
With that, the group burst into laughter.
