Seeing Ethan Sutton fly into a rage, Joyce Lawson scoffed inwardly.
Others might not have known about Ethan Suttonâs situation, but she certainly did. After all, the hospital where he was treated after being castrated was the same one where she was working at the time.
In recent years, due to the natural disasters, the hospital had admitted all kinds of patients. Some suffered from heatstroke due to extreme temperatures, while others developed lung diseases from inhaling volcanic ash... But there was only one person admitted for being castrated: Ethan Sutton.
The incident was like a bombshell, and gossip about it spread like wildfire throughout the hospital.
Joyce Lawson, of course, knew about it too. The memory hadnât surfaced until Ethan Sutton introduced himself moments ago, and then it all came rushing backâthis man standing before her was none other than the castrated heir of the Sutton family.
At this thought, the hatred in Joyce Lawsonâs heart deepened. âYvonne York knew exactly what kind of person Ethan Sutton was, yet she still sold me to him...â
Seeing Joyce Lawsonâs defiant expression, Ethan Suttonâs rage burned even hotter.
He couldnât take it anymore. He shot his hand out and clamped it savagely around Joyce Lawsonâs neck!
Ethan Suttonâs eyes were bloodshot, like an enraged beast. He tightened his grip, snarling, "You little bitch... You dare look down on me... Since you wonât marry me, you can just die..."
Ethan Suttonâs gaze was filled with hatred and fury. To Joyce Lawson, he looked like a demon from hell.
Joyce Lawson tried to struggle, but with her hands and feet bound, she was no match for Ethan Suttonâs strength. Soon, her breathing became labored, and her vision started to blur.
Yet, just as Joyce Lawson was sure she was about to die, the pressure on her neck suddenly vanished.
The next moment, as if he had suddenly fainted, Ethan Sutton went rigid and collapsed on top of her.
Saved from the brink of death, Joyce Lawson greedily gulped in fresh air. As she looked up, she saw someone completely unexpectedâMelody Summers!
Melody Summers grabbed Ethan Suttonâs arm, struggling to pull him off Joyce Lawson. It wasnât that she was weak; it was that Ethan Sutton had gained a significant amount of weight recently, weighing at least two hundred and twenty pounds.
Looking at Ethan Suttonâs obese, bloated body, Melody Summers found it impossible to reconcile this image with the handsome and haughty young master of the Sutton family from her past life. In that life, even after the Suttonsâ downfall, many socialites had still been infatuated with Ethan Sutton, drawn in by his good looks and physique.
Now, however, feeling the dead weight in her hands, Melody Summers couldnât help but snark to herself, âDo all animals get fat after theyâre neutered...â
After finally managing to shift Ethan Sutton off of Joyce Lawson, Melody stepped forward and carefully peeled the tape from Joyceâs mouth.
As she took out a knife to cut the ropes binding Joyce, she lowered her voice and asked, "Mona, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Joyce Lawson shook her head, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes. She looked at Melody Summers with gratitude; in just a few short days, Melody had saved her yet again.
After cutting all the ropes binding Joyceâs hands and feet, Melody carefully helped her up. "Can you walk?" she said. "We need to get out of here now!"
Joyce Lawson nodded and struggled to move, preparing to get off the bed.
Having been tied up for two full days, Joyceâs limbs were numb. She was unsteady, and the moment her feet touched the floor, she nearly collapsed to her knees.
Melody rushed forward to steady her, silently cursing out the entire Sutton family in her mind.
âThe Suttons call themselves high society, a noble family, yet theyâd stoop to something like kidnapping. Theyâre nothing but lawless thugs!â
Melody supported Joyce as they slowly made their way toward the door, only to run into someone completely unexpectedâ
Looking at the pale, slender woman before them, Melody blurted out, "Joanne White? What are you doing here?!"
Joanne White stared back at Melody and Joyce in equal surprise. She had only meant to come out for a glass of water, never expecting to walk in on a scene like this.
A second before Joanne could scream, the cold steel of a dagger was already pressed against her throat.
Melody held the sharp dagger, her eyes fixed on Joanne. She lowered her voice, her tone laced with threat and warning. "Joanne White, youâd better keep your mouth shut. If you dare to scream, youâll bear the consequences."
Feeling the cold steel against her neck, Joanne was filled with terror. She swallowed nervously and stammered, "IâI wonât scream. Please, donât kill me..."
Seeing that Joanne was cooperating, Melody paused for a moment before ushering both her and Joyce back into the room they had just left.
As they entered the room, Joanneâs eyes immediately fell on Ethan Sutton, unconscious on the floor. Thinking he was dead, she gasped, barely managing to stifle the scream that threatened to erupt from her throat.
Seeing her reaction, Melody closed the door and said, "Relax. Heâs not dead, just knocked out. Heâll be unconscious for twenty-four hours."
Joanne trembled at her words. âTwenty-four hours?! Even a hard blow to the back of the head shouldnât knock someone out for that long! What on earth happened to Ethan Sutton?!â
This thought terrified Joanne. Her voice trembling on the verge of tears, she pleaded, "Please, Melody Summers, let me go! IâIâll pretend I never saw you. Just let me go!"
Melody just smiled. She lightly tapped the flat of the blade against Joanneâs cheek. "Donât be nervous," she murmured. "As long as you answer my questions honestly, I wonât hurt you."
Feeling the chill on her cheek, Joanne trembled slightly. Her face was a mask of terror as she whispered, "Okay, ask... Anything I know, Iâll tell you everything."
Melody nodded, satisfied. "That day at the Nimbus Hotel," she began, "why did you act as a go-between for the Lancasters? Whatâs your relationship with Sylvia Lancaster?"
Joanne was stunned. âHow does Melody Summers know about that?â
âHow does she know I was in contact with Sylvia Lancaster?â
Staring into Melodyâs cold eyes, Joanne didnât dare hide anything. She gritted her teeth and said in a low voice, "It was Sylvia Lancaster who contacted me. She wanted me to connect her with Mr. Simmons... to arrange for him to meet his old flame..."
"I didnât want to agree, but I donât know how... she knew so many things Iâd done in the past. She even knew that I used to cyberbully you, but Iâd never even met her before..."
"She threatened me. She said if I didnât help her, sheâd publicize everything and make sure I could never marry Zane Simmons..."
Melody listened silently to Joanneâs story, growing more certain. âSylvia Lancaster must have been reborn, too.â
Only the Sylvia from her past life would have known so much about Joanneâs past. After all, the two of them had been âgood friendsâ for a time in that life.
Once she understood this, Melody asked another question. "What exactly happened after you left the Nimbus Hotel? How did you become this so-called âGoddessâ? And whatâs the deal with this Mr. Caelus?"
