Chapter 334: Chapter 335: Decorating the New Home 1
Yang Mei chuckled and said,
"Ahem, I misspoke, little Saozi, donât mind me. Iâm just envious that you found such a good man. My man is ten years older than yours, yet his position is so much lower. Your manâs future is sure to be promising; you have good fortune ahead of you."
Nianyang replied coolly, "Thank you for your kind words, Yang Saozi, but I still need to clean up, so you should head back. Weâll chat some other time when we have the chance."
Yang Meiâs forced friendly expression instantly fell apart. She had lingered for so long just to get Nianyang to share some food. But since Nianyang was showing no intention of doing so and even wanted her to leave, she decided to be direct,
"Little Saozi, I saw you brought so much stuff. It must all be yummy food from your home. Since weâre neighbors, why not share a bit with me as a welcome gift?"
So, this was the real reason she had been talking for so long; Yang Saozi just wanted to take advantage of her!
No doubt she had seen Nianyang giving meat to Dong Hu and was jealous.
Nianyang wasnât a stingy person, nor was she lacking in supplies. If it were any other neighbor, she probably would have given something as a welcome gift, but knowing Yang Meiâs mercenary nature,
she feared the saying "a favor received, a grudge repaid"âif she satisfied Yang Meiâs greed, Yang Mei would think she was easily manipulated and would keep trying to take advantage of her. That wouldnât be good.
Although Nianyang wasnât afraid of confrontation, this was the Fishermen Districtâthere were many people and lots of gossip, and her image as the Saozi could affect her husbandâs interests. Nianyang didnât want to get involved with someone as troublesome as Yang Mei.
To prevent future troubles,
Nianyang deliberately took out a big cabbage from one of her bags and handed it to her,
"Yang Saozi, this is a vegetable from my garden at home, have a taste."
A big cabbage!
Yang Meiâs face turned green. She ate cabbage every day and was sick of it. Who would want cabbage? Her true self finally emerged,
"Little Saozi, are you pretending not to understand? You just gave bacon and sausages to those two sailors, but youâre giving me vegetables?"
Nianyang replied with a half-smile, "Ah, so Yang Saozi was after my meat. But I gave the sailors meat because they drove from far away to pick me up at the station and helped carry my luggage. That was their compensation. Why do you think you deserve my meat?"
Yang Meiâs face turned red, "My husband and your husband work in the same company; weâre all one family. Why keep things so separate? Itâs so hurtful!"
Nianyangâs smile widened, and her tone carried a surprising authority for her tender age,
"Yang Saozi, youâre mistaken. Although our husbands work in the same company, your husband is technically a subordinate of mine.
Therefore, itâs not proper for me to give you a welcome gift. Instead, as the wife of my husbandâs subordinate, you should be giving me, the superiorâs wife, a gift. Thatâs the way it should be."
Yang Mei was taken aback; this little Saoziâs words were too sharp for her to handle.
Nianyang continued calmly, "But our husbands are businessmen and gifts arenât their thing to avoid misunderstandings of favoritism. Itâs not good for either of them, so letâs skip the welcome gifts."
"You..."
Yang Mei was speechless, and for the first time, this Saozi, known for her quarreling skills, was at a loss for words.
Seems she wouldnât get any advantage!
"Just say you donât want to share your meat; why beat around the bush? Do you think I really crave your meat?"
Yang Mei snapped angrily and turned away, slamming the door behind her.
