Chapter 484: Chapter 485: Tingyan Leaves (Part 5)
Li Tingyan parked the car in the Li Familyâs backyard, habitually holding Nianyangâs hand as they walked into the main entrance; it was dinner time, and the Li family members were all seated in the living room.
As the two entered, everyone turned to look at them. Nianyang felt that the gazes of the Li family were somewhat inexplicably complex, though she wasnât sure if it was just her imagination.
Even Li Siqi, who was usually cheerful, remained silent and didnât greet them.
Whatâs going on?
They had just been away for a day, yet it felt like something significant had occurred.
Nianyang and Li Tingyan exchanged a knowing glance, seeing confusion in each otherâs eyes.
Finally, Li Zhenhua was the first to speak, "Where did you go to handle things, coming back so late!"
Li Tingyan replied, "I took Nini to visit a friendâs place."
Shang Wan, wearing an apron and carrying a plate of food, came out and gave Nianyang a cold glance up and down,
"Look at you both, whatâs with the constant hand-holding when the atmosphere is so strict now?"
The sharpness in her tone was evident even to an idiot!
Li Tingyan furrowed his brow, intending to speak, but Nianyang quickly let go of his hand and walked over with a smile,
"Aunt Li is right, we werenât mindful of the occasion. Aunt, is there anything in the kitchen I can help with?"
At this moment, Liu Yue also came out with a dish, "There are some more dishes, Nianyang, can you bring them out!"
Being allowed to help meant she wasnât treated as an outsider, so Nianyang naturally had no objections.
But Shang Wan interrupted, "No, youâre a guest. How can we ask a guest to serve food? Just sit and enjoy, weâll handle it ourselves."
She then rushed into the kitchen ahead, leaving Liu Yue awkwardly standing there. She smiled apologetically at Nianyang, "Your Aunt Li is in a bad mood today, bear with her a bit!"
Nianyang forced a smile, but internally she was suspicious. Yesterday, Aunt Li had been wholeheartedly accepting of her; why was she suddenly so harsh today, as if deliberately picking a fight?
Who was behind this manipulation?
Probably no one but Chu Huan!
Li Tingyan couldnât stand Nianyang being dismissed like this and was about to lose his temper, but was restrained by Nianyangâs look.
Right now, the main priority was to figure out the reason behind Aunt Liâs change in attitude. If Li Tingyan lost his temper, it would not only be ineffective but would aggravate the situation.
Soon, dinner was served, and everyone took their seats according to seniority and status.
From spending time with the Li family over the days, Nianyang had learned that they did not observe the rule of no talking during meals.
On the contrary, everybody would chat about everyday matters during meals, creating a joyful atmosphere, but today was exceptionally silent.
Even Li Xinya, who usually loved stirring things up, was quietly eating without speaking.
Nianyang felt an inexplicable sense of dread and picked up a piece of garlic pork, intending to place it in Shang Wanâs bowl.
Shang Wan simply pushed the bowl away, causing the pork piece to fall onto the table. In Nianyangâs moment of surprise, Shang Wan snapped, "Donât you know Iâm allergic to garlic, or are you trying to poison me!"
Nianyang was stunned, "Iâm sorry Aunt Li..."
"Bang!"
Li Tingyan slammed his chopsticks heavily onto the coffee table.
"Mom, what are you up to? Nini was offering you food out of concern for you!" Li Tingyan pressed his fingers to his brow,
"Besides, Iâve never known someone who ate garlic for over a decade to suddenly become allergic. Youâre clearly targeting Nini. Tell me, whatâs your real intention?!"
