Chapter 456: Chapter 457: Friend or Foe
"You are... Feng Kexinâs cousin?"
The three of them walked to a secluded spot to avoid the crowd, and Shen Yue couldnât help but ask.
Feng Kexin chuckled lightly, "Is there any doubt? Who would claim to be someoneâs cousin for no reason?"
"That makes sense, but wait!" Shen Yue scrutinized them again, "The phone number you asked for that day... you two had never been in touch before, what kind of relatives are you?"
Feng Kexin smiled, "Exactly, I didnât even know I had a cousin before, and now I do, right?"
Shen Yueâs face show disbelief, "This seemed too phony, doesnât it?"
Song Xiaodong smiled, "Itâs not fake, just that our relationship is somewhat special, and I canât tell you about it just yet."
Feng Kexin raised her chin proudly, "This is our secret between the two of us, really canât tell you."
Hearing Song Xiaodongâs admission, Shen Yue believed him, but seeing Feng Kexinâs smug expression, she couldnât see them as cousins, feeling that Feng Kexin was another formidable rival.
At that moment, Song Xiaodong said, "Shen Yue, Kexin and I have something to do today, letâs take you home now."
"No, Iâll join you guys," Shen Yue twisted her slim waist, not wanting to leave.
Song Xiaodong patted Shen Yueâs shoulder, "Kexin and I really have some important matters to attend to. If you stay, we canât get it done, and itâs incredibly important for both of us."
Seeing that Song Xiaodong was quite serious, Shen Yue pouted, "Is it that serious?"
"Very serious, extremely so!" Song Xiaodong nodded earnestly, emphasizing the point in his tone.
"I see... Well, okay then, weâre taking off now, you folks be busy."
"Yeah, Iâll come for dinner at your place this weekend." Song Xiaodong patted Shen Yueâs shoulder again.
A smile immediately appeared on Shen Yueâs face, "You said it, you better not back out."
Song Xiaodong smiled, "I wonât."
At that point, Shen Yue left with a cheerful step. Regardless, she trusted Song Xiaodong, even if Feng Kexin posed a great threat.
After Shen Yue left, Feng Kexin dropped the playful tone, "Cousin, I really feel like someoneâs stalking me, itâs frightening."
"When did that start happening?"
Feng Kexin gave a wry smile, "It started this afternoon, but I just canât find the person whoâs following me. I donât know if Iâm just scaring myself."
Song Xiaodong asked, "Nothing that frightened you or was unusual happened today, right?"
"No, everything was very normal today. This feeling just appeared out of nowhere."
Song Xiaodong nodded, "Then itâs very likely, the human sixth sense can sometimes be incredibly sensitive, much stronger than the usual sight and hearing."
Feng Kexin said, "Do you really believe me?"
"I do, because I have a sixth sense, too. Letâs go, whether itâs true or not, weâll find out soon enough."
Feng Kexin, clinging to Song Xiaodongâs arm, walked down the schoolâs path towards the school gate, said while walking, "You have a sixth sense too, that makes even more sense that we are cousins."
Song Xiaodong chuckled lightly, "Many people have a sixth sense, some just have a stronger one than others, thatâs all."
"Is that so? You know so much. Ah, that feeling is coming back." Feng Kexin clenched Song Xiaodongâs arm tightly and leaned against him.
Song Xiaodong was surprised; he didnât have such a sensation, which meant Feng Kexinâs sixth sense was much sharper than his own.
They advanced a few more steps when Song Xiaodong truly realized they were being followed. The pursuer was incredibly agile, clearly well-trained, blending in like a regular student about twenty meters behind them, even dressed as a student, a girl at that, which would make it extremely difficult for an average person to detect.
Song Xiaodong quickly understood why he didnât trigger his sixth senseâbecause that person had no hostile intentions towards him; her target was Feng Kexin. Thus, while Kexin could sense the danger, he did not.
Song Xiaodong said, "Iâve noticed it too, but donât be nervous, just keep going as we are. Itâs probably because of the auction tag you had the other day; it mustâve caught someoneâs attention."
Feng Kexin said, "You mean theyâre after me because of that tag?"
Song Xiaodong nodded, "Exactly. I suspect thatâs the case, but as of now, I donât know if this person is a friend or a foe."
"What if itâs a friend?"
"If itâs a friend, then theyâre here to confirm your identity before making contact. After that, we might uncover the secrets of that tag." At this point, Song Xiaodong was somewhat excited; after all, how could he not care about, or want to know more about his own origin?
Feng Kexin was clearly just as excited and asked further, "What if itâs a foe?"
"If itâs a foe... well, thatâs hard to say. It all depends on how special our identity is; it might even be that once they confirm our identity, they could just kill us on the spot."
"Really?" Feng Kexin shivered.
Song Xiaodong said, "Likely. Given our unique identity, we canât use common sense to guess the situations we face. Letâs go out first; I believe whether the person is a friend or a foe, they will make the first move."
The pair walked out of the school; Song Xiaodong didnât take Feng Kexin to his car but continued along the road beside the school.
The school was not in a bustling urban area, and there was a relatively quiet side road nearby. They hadnât gone far when the person following them quickened their pace, drawing closer and closer.
Yet even as the follower increased their speed, it appeared like a normal walk, it didnât reveal that their target was Feng Kexin.
When that person neared Feng Kexin and Song Xiaodong from behind, a sharp dagger suddenly appeared in her hand. With a swift lift of her arm, she aimed directly at Feng Kexinâs neck.
Feng Kexin, facing away from the attacker, hadnât seen the person, but at that moment, she suddenly sensed an intense danger, and then she saw the glint of a dagger right below her neck.
"Ah!" Apart from letting out a scream, Feng Kexin couldnât react in any other way, only to watch as the dagger swiftly slashed towards her neck...
