Back then, the shock she felt when her mother-in-law heard she was willing to have a child was tremendous.
"Thatâs great!"
While the mother and daughter-in-law were cooking and having heartfelt conversations, the men in the main room were also chatting up a storm. They were comrades and had far too many topics to discuss when together.
Mostly, they listened to the old man reminisce about his past.
Qin Yue was leaning casually against the doorframe, his peripheral vision spotting someone on his team gesturing to him.
His men were all in undercover status. To avoid disturbing the normal life of the Sheng family, they would not normally show themselves. The moment he saw the gesture, Qin Yue slipped out of the main room without drawing attention.
"Whatâs up?" Qin Yue asked lazily.
"Captain, thereâs trouble!" The comrade pointed towards the approaching black jeep, "Look!"
Qin Yue glanced over and his expression froze, suddenly becoming stern.
"Isnât that the General Political Departmentâs car?"
"Exactly! It must be here for the old leader, right? I mean, these guys are assholes. They know we are here but still send someone from the General Political Department over. Isnât that a clear sign they donât trust us to protect the old leader?" The little comrade felt his capabilities were being questioned. After all, under the captainâs lead, they had even protected foreign heads of state, so how could they not protect the Presidentâs father?
"If anything really happens to the old leader, Iâll twist her head off."
Qin Yue shook his head, "No, itâs not that simple. Donât forget, Huo Yan is still under punishment!"
The two continued their conversation, standing at the intersection until the General Political Departmentâs car got close, without making way.
Two people got out of the car, greeting Qin Yue with expressionless faces.
Qin Yue returned the greeting with a lazy, rascally gesture, infuriating the others.
"So you must be Deputy Director Qin from the Southern District?"
"Thatâs right!" Qin Yue pulled out a cigarette, handed one to his subordinate, and put one in his mouth. His subordinate quickly lit it for him, "What brings you here?"
"You... youâre really too much. Do you even resemble a comrade like this?"
"What does our captain looking like a comrade have to do with you? Whatâs the matter? You want to stick your hands into our Southern matters?"
"Absolutely no discipline." The other was fuming with anger. "Move aside, weâre here to see Xu Qigang."
"You say move and I should move? With that attitude, wouldnât it be embarrassing for us to just clear the way?" Being bullish, they had never lost in the Southern District.
They didnât bother to find out, asking someone known for strolling around brazenly to make way was wishful thinking.
"Xu Qigang." The other party had no choice but to call out loudly.
Qin Yue was quite famous in the Four Regions. Aside from his top-notch comprehensive skills and notable accomplishments, it was his arrogance, shamelessness, and nonconformity.
Yet with all that, he remained unshakeable in his position. Everyone knew Qin Yue came from no ordinary background, as not just any family could raise someone like him.
Inside the room, Xu Qigang had already heard the noise outside, but he hadnât paid any attention to it since his name wasnât mentioned. The Little Hooligan was always brazen when it came to messing with others, and he wouldnât back down easily if someone dared to make him move.
"Captain Xu." There was another shout from outside, and Xu Qigang couldnât ignore it any longer.
"Who is this? So disrespectful." The old man was displeased. Was his son-in-law so easily summonsed? He wasnât just any Tom, Dick, or Harry to come running at a call.
"Qigang, go have a look."
