"No need," Sheng Ning refused, "Itâs not that far, we can go back on our own."
"But that wonât do. I brought you here; I canât just not take you back," the little fat man insisted on giving them a ride, ready to threaten suicide if they refused, leaving Sheng Ning with no choice but to agree.
The three of them got into the car, and as it sped along the road, Sheng Ning was preoccupied with memories of her past life, afraid she might have forgotten some detail. Her fate had changed now, and so many things were different.
She could no longer rely on her experiences from her past life; every step she took needed to be her own.
"Little fat man, where have you taken us?" Chen Huayingâs shout suddenly brought Sheng Ning back to reality, and looking out the window, it seemed like they were at a hospital.
"Is this the Main Hospital?" She asked calmly, "Why have you brought us here?" She didnât need to ask; she already had a suspicion. Meng Ping always stayed at this hospital whenever he was admitted.
During this time, Sheng Ning had never allowed herself to think about Meng Ping. But now, she suddenly realized that she remembered what the Living Yama had said about Meng Pingâs hospitalization. This realization made her expression involuntarily turn cold, and her eyes changed as she got out of the car.
"The boss is badly hurt, and he still hasnât recovered. The doctor said itâs dangerous. So, I brought you here to see him," the little fat man said, feeling guilty, his head bowed, not daring to look at them. In reality, he was elated inside; starting with Chen Huaying had definitely been the right move.
The boss had vomited blood again yesterday; he was seriously injured but kept it hidden from the doctor. If he hadnât discovered it, it would have been dangerous. Yesterday the doctor scolded all of them, and it really pained his heart.
He knew that just by seeing Sheng Ning, the boss would surely recover much faster.
"Little fat man, have you eaten the heart of a bear and the gall of a leopard? Arenât you scared that the War Wolf Rescue Team will come tear you to pieces?"
"Letâs walk back!" Sheng Ning turned to leave, but the little fat man grabbed her.
"Sis-in-law..." In his urgency, he blurted out the term heâd been holding in his heart, only to be punched twice by Chen Huaying.
"Let go, will clinging to us change anything?"
"Comrade Sheng Ning, youâre already at the hospital entrance, please just go in and have a look! Can you?" In desperation, the little fat man suddenly dropped to his knees, scaring both women into an ashen pallor, while the doctors and patients passing by curiously looked over.
Sheng Ning was a celebrity at the General Union, everyone who had read the labor newspaper recognized her; she couldnât afford to lose face.
"Get up!"
"I wonât get up! Not until you go in," seeing his stubbornness was effective, the little fat man decided to just lie there and not get up.
"All right! Youâre really something!" Sheng Ning stepped back, exasperated, "I agree to your request, can you stand up now?"
"Thank you!" The little fat man quickly got to his feet. The hospital staff had come over to ask what was happening, and he stayed busy explaining it was just a joke, getting reprimanded for a while, before turning back with a smile on his face.
"Sheng Ning, Iâm sorry!" The little fat man sincerely apologized, "The last incident was our fault, but this time thereâs absolutely no malicious intent. We are all friends, and the Su Family and the Meng Family are long-time allies and relatives; itâs quite normal to visit when someone is sick."
The little fat man was right; she couldnât keep running away. Sheng Ning took a deep breath, calming herself down quickly.
She had a clear conscience; she was just going to see a patient, approaching it as anyone would normally.
"Chen Huaying, letâs buy some fruit before we go in. Itâs not appropriate to visit a patient empty-handed."
