"It must be Julian, I ran away, and heās probably dying to kill me."
"Itās not Julian, itās the Chinese, and theyāre pretty influential locally," Gu Yunbo ladled himself a bowl of noodles from the pot while saying, "Did you offend someone?"
She took a bite and widened her eyes in disbelief, immediately deciding that no matter what, she must live with Sheng Ning in the future. The cooking is too good, these noodles look so ordinary, yet they taste amazing!
So delicious! Since coming to the US, she hadnāt tasted hometown food, although there were some places in Chinatown, the prices were terrifyingly high.
"No, after Julian kidnapped me, I escaped, then met Lin En. You know what happened after that, I collected bottles to sell every day, couldnāt even go out in the daytime."
"Thatās strange! According to logic, Housekeeper Xing canāt possibly be in cahoots with Julian. Could he really be Julianās boss behind the scenes, interested in your sharpshooting skills?"
Gu Yunbo asked with doubt.
"I donāt know anything."
"Does your family have overseas connections?" she asked casually.
"Weāre all red-blooded peasant children, where would we get overseas connections?" She had never heard of any, and besides, even if there were overseas connections, they wouldnāt get into the General Union.
"Never mind, letās just lay low for a while and not show our faces until this blows over."
"Okay!" Sheng Ning calculated her due date and the time for postpartum confinement; she needed some time. Right now, nothing is more important than the baby, and since Lin Lisha just died, who knows if it would cause bigger trouble.
So for safetyās sake, itās best to stay indoors.
But plans canāt keep up with change. That night, Sheng Ning finally fell asleep on the comfortable big bed, only to be awakened from a nightmare. She abruptly opened her eyes, gasping for air.
Large beads of sweat trickled down her cheeks, landing on the pillow.
In the dream, she saw the Living Yamaās face covered in blood, his deep eyes unblinkingly staring at her. They were filled with sorrow, despair, and pain.
Sheng Ning felt her heart throbbing with pain, so much that she couldnāt breathe.
She propped herself up on the bed, trying hard to sit up, but her belly was too big and her legs were so swollen they had no strength. Every movement took effort, the room was pitch black, and she accidentally rolled off the bed without warning.
Then came a stabbing pain in her belly, and before she could react, the pain came in overwhelming waves, one after another.
"Ah..." Unable to endure, she cried out in pain. Gu Yunbo, who was already on alert while sleeping next door, jumped out of bed and rushed in upon hearing her voice.
"Sheng Ning, whatās wrong? What happened?" Gu Yunbo turned on the light and saw Sheng Ning lying on the ground, her pajamas soaked in sweat.
"I... I might be going into labor."
"But isnāt it not time yet?"
She gritted her teeth, hearing Gu Yunboās silly words, and responded helplessly, "Thereās a term called premature birth."
"Ah?" Now Gu Yunbo was really panicking, she had experienced everything but never had a child! "Iāll... Iāll go find a doctor."
"No way!" Sheng Ning bit her lip and stopped her, "Arenāt you supposed to stay inside?"
"At times like this, who cares about that. Wait for me, Iāll go call for help now, the doctor lives not far away. Hang in there, Iāll be back soon."
