The eldest gnome had a look of doubt on his face until he saw what we showed him.
Then he couldnât help looking at me with a very strange look.
It was as if he was saying, "How did you do this?"
That was because what we showed him was the scene of the path that we cut through the land that was filled with corruption energy.
For the gnomes that had been isolated for so long, they never thought that they would be able to see a scene like this. In their eyes, the corruption energy seemed like it was something that mortals couldnât do anything against.
The only thing that they had managed to do was stop it with their special potions, but these were rare potions that took a lot of special materials to make.
As such, they didnât think that anything in this world would be able to deal with it.
But with the evidence right in front of their eyes, it was hard for them to deny it.
Especially since there were people on the walls that were still fighting against the strange creatures that were charging in from time to time. These were just parties that had been sent to harass them, but it wasnât as if they could be allowed to do whatever they wanted.
That was why there were people gathered on the walls shooting their attacks at them.
Since these were nothing more than scattered groups of the strange creatures, they were able to completely destroy them with their attacks.
After a long silence, the eldest gnome finally said in a slow and shaky voice, "How is this possible? How are you even able to do anything to this dark energy? This is clearly not an energy of this world, not something that mortals can touch."
"Youâre right about that." Both the Dwarven King and I said with faint smiles on our faces.
He certainly wasnât wrong in saying that this wasnât an energy of this world since it was Destruction Energy that came from the God of Destruction. This wasnât a kind of energy that mortals should have been in contact with.
If it wasnât for the resurrection of the God of Destruction.
"I see that you have the capability, but why do you want to push into the capital? You should know that place is a land of death at this point. This âcorruption energyâ as you call it, turned the land completely black and void of life. Youâll just be throwing your life away if you try to charge into the capital." The eldest gnome said in a sincere voice, different from all the other tones that he had taken before.
At this point, he recognized that there was this conviction that was there that wasnât normal. So it wasnât as if he would be able to convince them into giving up their idea of heading to the capital.
That was why he just wanted to understand why they were doing this.
"Itâs unknown if weâll be throwing our lives away." I said with another faint smile.
But then I said in a more serious voice, "Regardless of what it is, this is the only way to get rid of the corruption energy that is here and save the gnomes."
The eldest gnome had a strange look on his face as he looked at me, but then he turned to look at the Dwarven King.
The Dwarven King didnât say anything, he just gave a simple nod in response.
Seeing this, the eldest gnome just gave a sigh before saying, "Then Iâll come with you. Iâve lived long enough and it doesnât matter if an old man like me loses his life. Plus, I want to see just what it is thatâs causing this disaster."
I was a bit surprised to hear this, but then I said with a smile, "Youâre more than welcome to come."
The eldest gnome just gave a nod before turning around to walk away.
It wasnât that he was ignoring me, it was that he didnât want to waste any time at all.
He was heading in the direction of the cave where the other gnomes were.
With the eldest gnome giving the orders, it didnât take long for the other gnomes to split up.
Some of them wanted to come with us to the capital.
Though it wasnât as if they had noble aspirations like the eldest gnome, they were just coming along because they wanted to see if they could find their family members that had been separated from them.
Most of them were still heading out of the corruption energy zone with the ones that were assigned to escort them.
Though it was different for the people that were assigned to escort them out.
Those people looked like they wanted to stay here and take care of the enemy with us.
And there were even some people that looked like they wanted a bit more than that.
But still, we couldnât let them drag us down...or at least that was the excuse that I gave.
"Youâre not a bad person, I can tell that. Unlike the other humans, it seems that you have quite the compassion in you."
I looked at the eldest gnome who said this with a surprised look, but I found that he didnât wait for me to say anything in response as he had already walked off.
It seemed that he was quite eager to head to the capital.
I couldnât help shaking my head when I saw this, but at least it seemed that I had left a good impression on the gnomes.
With everyone prepared, we headed off deeper into the corruption energy zone.
At the same time, the corruption energy and strange creatures reacted as they started attacking us.
But most of them were drawn to us who were heading deeper into the territory of the gnomes.
Still, it wasnât as if they were strong enough to stop us.
We had more than enough manpower to cut through them and create a path.
