The gnome looked at the eldest gnome and revealed a surprised look before saying, "Grandpa Stumps, what are you doing here?"
The eldest gnome that had been called Grandpa Stumps slapped the gnome on the head before saying, "That doesnât matter right now. Tell me what happened to your father already."
"My father?" The gnome slowly repeated before quickly looking around again as if he was looking for someone. When he couldnât find the person that he was looking for, he quickly said, "My father, whereâs my father?"
Grandpa Stumps slapped the gnome on the head again before saying, "Who should I ask if youâre asking me this? Iâm the one that asked you the question in the first place! Calm down and think things through before answering me."
The gnome slowly calmed down before knitting his brows as if he was trying to think of something.
After a while, he said with a shake of his head, "I donât know, I really canât remember anything. I was barely lucid when I was being controlled, so I only have a few memories of what happened."
Grandpa Stumps knitted his brows hearing this, but then he asked, "What about the thing that took over your body? What do you know about that?"
When he heard this, the gnome couldnât help looking at the shadow that was trapped inside of the cage again.
When the gnome looked at it, the shadow also looked at the gnome.
With the way that the shadow looked at the gnome, it was almost as if it was trying to get the gnome to free it.
It seemed like there was a part of the gnome that was affected because of the shadow looking in his direction as he looked like he fell into a daze. But that was quickly stopped by me as I stabbed the shadow in the cage with earth spikes.
As soon as the shadow saw the earth spikes appear, it immediately backed away from the bars of the cage.
The gnome also seemed to recover his senses when the spikes pushed the shadow back.
He couldnât help shaking his head and then turning away from the cage with his eyes closed, as if he was trying to cut himself off from something.
Once he came back to his senses, the gnome said, "I donât know where it came from, but it appeared all of a sudden when I found that button at one of the stores in the capital. When my hand made contact with it, it was as if there was this strange feeling that came over me. I didnât know what it was at first, but then I started getting these gaps in my memory until..."
Grandpa Stumps patted the gnome on his shoulder as he said, "Angil, itâs alright. Youâre free from its influence now, just calm down."
The gnome called Angil slowly gave a nod, but it was clear by the look in his eyes that he was still being affected by what had happened.
I had been silently listening the entire time since it wasnât my place to say anything, but now that they had finished...
"What kind of things did you see when you held the button?"
Angil looked at me with a confused look when he heard this before a trace of wariness appeared in his eyes and he moved away from me.
He had been so focused on the shadow and the gnomes around him, that he didnât notice anything else. But now that I spoke, he realized that I was a human...a human that shouldnât be in a place like this.
Grandpa Stumps patted him on the shoulder again before saying, "Heâs with us. If it wasnât for him, then we wouldnât have been able to save you."
Angil still had a wary look in his eyes as he looked at me again, but it didnât seem like he was as guarded as before. It seemed like he was at least willing to hear me out since I had the guarantee of Grandpa Stumps.
But I didnât say anything as I waited for him to answer my question.
Grandpa Stumps then added, "Heâs the one that trapped the shadow and removed it from your body."
As soon as he said this, Angilâs expression changed as he looked at me.
There was a trace of awe and disbelief in his eyes, as well as a bit of doubt.
But since it was Grandpa Stump that said this...
"I donât remember much like I said. The only thing that I really remember is that there was a voice that kept coming through into my mind. It was a voice that kept telling me to embrace my inner thoughts and destroy everything in my path. It was a voice that felt like I couldnât resist it..." Angil said slowly as if he was falling into a trance remembering what he had been through.
It was almost as if just the thought of it alone was enough to make him relapse.
Then as if he was afraid that he would fall to it again, Grandpa Stumps slapped Angil on the back of the head to bring him back.
A bitter smile appeared on Angilâs face as he rubbed the back of his head, but he didnât say anything about being slapped.
It even seemed like he was relieved that he had been pulled back from his thoughts.
Since this was related to the corruption energy, then the voice that Angil had heard was most likely the voice of the God of Destruction. It couldnât be blamed on him if he were to fall for the seduction of the God of Destruction.
It was a god that was on the other side, mortals would find it hard to resist.
But the strange thing was the fact that the button that released the corruption energy was related to the God of Destruction.
The only things that could do that were relics of the God of Destruction.
Then did that mean that this was the fourth Relic of Destruction that we were looking for?
