Mrs. Guan clenched her teeth, acknowledging that her husband’s assessment likely held truth.

With a limited number of servants at home, and most of them assisting with the event, it seemed implausible that one of them had orchestrated such a scheme. Her own maidservant, in particular, lacked the cunning to exploit her son for trouble.

Considering the guests, Mrs. Guan faced a dead end. Investigations appeared futile. After lunch, numerous madams, ladies, and maidservants strolled through the courtyard, making it practically impossible to identify a potential culprit.

Observing his wife jesting at Shao Yunduan and his wife, Deputy Prefect Guan frowned. “We have no choice but to accept it.”

Liqiu entered and greeted them.

Liqiu spoke, “Mrs. Guan, our madam sent me to request some ointment for swelling and pain. The young master in our madam’s family is quite strong. The bruise on Caiyue’s leg, about the size of a palm, is red and swollen. It’s painful to the touch. Our madam forgot to prepare the medicine, so she thought of asking Mrs. Guan first.”

“If you don’t have any, we’ll need to summon a doctor!”

Both Mrs. Guan and Deputy Prefect Guan’s eyelids twitched.

A doctor? If a doctor were to be involved, who knew what information might be revealed!

Mrs. Guan understood that Liqiu had come to mock and humiliate her, but she had no choice but to suppress her anger and respond with a forced smile. “There’s some ointment. Nanny Ding, fetch it.
