Eldest Uncle sneered. âHe might understand, but do you? He claimed he wanted to marry Taotao, but he already has a fiancĂ©e! Heâs a liar!â
However, Ms. Fang remained unfazed by his accusation. She rolled her eyes and remarked, âHeâs just trying to distance himself from the third branch, thatâs why heâs being clever about it.â
âUncle, Iâve already explained this to Aunt. Iâm only trying to appease Third Uncle and the others. Otherwise, Iâm afraid they might get entangled and tarnish everyoneâs reputation. That wouldnât be appropriate.â
âI shouldnât have deceived you. Please forgive me!â Zhao Shu bowed respectfully to Eldest Uncle.
Eldest UncleâŠ
After all this time, was he the only one who looked foolish??
Ms. Fang quickly interjected, âZhao, donât be so formal. Itâs all a misunderstanding. My husband didnât know what was happening, and he made a mistake. Iâm not holding it against you!â

Eldest Uncle remained skeptical. âReally?â
Zhao Shu smiled. âOf course, I wouldnât dare to lie to you, or Lord Shao wouldnât forgive me!â
True.
Ms. Fang sneered. âYouâre quite something! Youâre assisting the third son and his wife! Are you out of your mind? Itâs not that I donât like Xiaozhi, but do you really think sheâs a match for Zhao?â
Even Ms. Fang wasnât entirely convinced that Taotao could measure up to Zhao Shu!
Taotao was considerably more capable than Xiaozhi!
Eldest Uncle admitted with guilt, âI-Third Brother and his wife kept insisting that I should give it a tryâŠâ
Since Zhao Shuâs arrival, it wasnât the first time Eldest Uncle had been observed engaging in foolish acts. Zhao Shu had grown accustomed to it and didnât hold it against him. Instead, he quickly spoke up to defend his uncle. âAuntie, itâs all because the third branch is causing so much trouble!â
Ms. Fang agreed, saying, âYouâre absolutely right!â
Eldest Uncle: ââŠâ They were his own brother and daughter-in-law.
Ms. Fang praised Zhao Shu once more. âYouâre so astute!â
Zhao Shu replied, âHaha, Auntie, youâre too generous!â
Eldest Uncle felt even more embarrassed.
He sighed and couldnât resist asking Zhao Shu, âHow did you figure it out, I mean, with themâŠâ
Zhao Shu pursed his lips and adopted a disdainful expression. Without hesitation, he responded, âIâve encountered such situations many times! Itâs not so simple to outsmart me! How can parents continuously praise their daughter to a stranger and even insist on her accompanying a guest? Her intentions were all too obvious. If there wasnât an issue, it would be considered a miracle!â
Eldest Uncle nearly clutched his chest, overwhelmed with embarrassmentâŠ
Conversely, Ms. Fang was thoroughly delighted. She sneered, âThey can try whatever they want!â
Eldest Uncle couldnât help but interject, âEnough!â
âFeeling embarrassed, are we?â Ms. Fang sneered. âThen you should watch your own actions. Do you think they arenât feeling embarrassed?â
Eldest Uncle didnât appreciate her words. âFine!â He responded and walked away.
Ms. Fang muttered, âWhat an old fool!â
Eldest Uncle believed the matter had come to a close.
To his surprise, Shao Xiaozhi had a limited understanding of the world. She genuinely believed herself to be the future wife of an official and had taken a liking to Zhao Shu. She wept miserably at home.
Ms. Ma was so irate that she berated Eldest Uncle incessantly.
It seemed as though Eldest Uncle bore the blame for this setback.
However, she wasnât willing to abandon the matter. She prodded Third Uncle, and the two of them approached Eldest Uncle once more. Ms. Ma then conveyed to him that she had developed an interest in Zhao Shu.
