Moon turned toward Selene with curiosity etched on his face. "That makes me wonder though, do you think skill ranks actually go higher than Epic?"
Seleneās expression immediately softened with sympathy. "Those really are harsh requirements, especially the S-rank beast hunting. But I suppose it makes sense given how uniquely powerful your abilities have proven to be. The system probably scales task difficulty based on your demonstrated potential."
She thought for a moment before continuing, "You can definitely accomplish the S-rank kills once youāve evolved at least one of your skills to Epic rank. The power difference between Rare and Epic is enormousāit would give you the combat advantage you need. Actually, Iām working toward the same goal myself. I want to evolve my primary skill to Epic rank before attempting my own class advancement. Thatās what the most powerful people do."
Then Selene addressed his actual question about higher skill tiers, her expression becoming contemplative and uncertain.
"As for skills above Epic rank..." She paused, clearly thinking through everything sheād learned. "Iāve honestly never heard of such a thing existing, at least not in the First Sanctuary. Maybe and this is pure speculation, maybe things exist in the higher Sanctuaries where the baseline power levels are fundamentally different. But here? Among First Order awakeners? Iāve never heard anyone speak of possessing or even witnessing a skill ranked above Epic."
Seleneās voice took on a more pondering tone as she continued. "Think about the practical requirements for obtaining one. You would need to receive an Epic rank skill directly from your class assignment right from the beginningāwhich Iāve never heard of happening to anyone, ever. The highest starting rank Iāve personally confirmed is Rare, and even thatās incredibly uncommon. You would need a unique class to have such a high ranking skill from the get-go."
She gestured expressively as she continued explaining, "Then, even if such an impossible thing occurred and someone did start with Epic rank, theyād need to evolve it further through massive life expenditure. The cost scaling would be absolutely astronomical, weāre talking potentially tens of thousands of lives to push a skill beyond Epic tier, assuming the system even allows such advancement."
Selene shook her head with skepticism. "And honestly, even if it were technically possible, it wouldnāt be strategically productive. Spending years grinding lives to evolve a single skill when that same time could be invested in reaching the Second Sanctuary where your baseline power would increase dramatically through natural progression? It just doesnāt make sense, your life isnāt guaranteed, and staying as an awakener is always a risk."
Moon nodded slowly, absorbing this information while his mind worked through the implications.
āSo not only has no human in recorded history received an Epic rank skill from initial class assignment, but the very concept of pushing beyond Epic is considered either impossible or so impractical that no one seriously attempts it. Which means my third evolution task is asking me to accomplish something that most, if not all, humans believe doesnāt even exist.ā
Despite the overwhelming challenge or perhaps because of it Moon couldnāt suppress a surge of exhilaration coursing through his entire body. His heart began to beat faster, not with fear but with anticipation.
The tasks were borderline impossible by all standards. But that made perfect sense.
Heād chosen to walk the Classless path. Heād deliberately rejected the comfortable, well-mapped roads that others followed. His entire progression was built on the fundamental premise that he would carve his own way through this world rather than following in anyoneās footsteps, bound to the systemās predetermined paths of power.
This was exactly what heād signed up for.
āThere is so much still to discover. So much to understand about the fundamental nature of everything,ā Moon thought, his mind expanding outward to embrace questions that most awakeners never even considered asking.
āThis world, where did it truly originate? What is the system at its core essence? What is its actual purpose beyond just granting power? What exists beyond the mapped territories and known sanctuaries?ā
Moon had already found answers to a few questions that had plagued him before. But the pattern was becoming clear: the more mysteries he solved, the more new questions emerged to replace them.
Each answer revealed deeper layers of complexity. Each discovery exposed how little he actually understood about the true scope of reality and how it operated.
The golden fish that served as the benefactorās companion. A human with multi-elemental mastery existing three hundred years before the Collapse. Hidden realms operating under different laws, entire species trapped by level restrictions they couldnāt even perceive.
Every piece of evidence suggested the world was far stranger, far more vast, and far more ancient than the official two-hundred-year history humanity claimed.
āOnly by becoming strong will I find the real answers Iām seeking,ā Moon resolved with absolute conviction.
āStrong like the benefactor was. No, stronger than even that. Strong enough that the system itself has to acknowledge my existence.
Strong enough to break the rules that others donāt even realize exist.ā
Moonās eyes refocused on the present, his momentary contemplation turning to resolve.
He had impossible tasks ahead of him.
Fifty S-rank solo kills. Five Uncommon or Rare skill acquisitions. One Legendary rank skill that supposedly didnāt exist.
But Moon had already accomplished things that should have been impossible. Heād defied his existence as a worthless null, survived the onslaught of two s-rank creatures stronger than him and always prevailed no matter what.
This was just the next impossible challenge he had placed for himself, and Moon intended to prove it was possible after all.
"Alright," Moon said aloud, pulling himself from internal contemplation. "Letās focus on what we can control right now. We still need to clear this realm, and I need to start working on these evolution tasks while weāre here."
Selene looked at him with respect, clearly sensing the change in his demeanour from shocked to determined. "What is your plan?"
