Chapter 56: A Bet?
Next was the spatial lock, in which he would freeze the space from moving around a place. He had nothing to test it on, so he was his own test subject. If it was something like teleportation, he would not have tried it on himself even in this immortal form.
Because some parts of rock would just disappearâhe doesnât know whereâin failed attempts of teleportation, which scared him to try it on himself even here.
When the rocks travel from point A to point B to reach the distance instantly, they travel through a separate space where the space is much closer. It made him understand the concept of how the portal works, and at the same time how dangerous it was.
But freezing the space was much easier. It didnât take control and focus on that level. He just had to make the existing space stay as it was by forcing it using his spatial element. The limit of the size of the football doesnât apply to it because of its lower complexity. He can freeze a regular-sized human in place using this ability easily.
Still, the cons were the same. It took him to focus to cast, around 1.2 seconds, which for a monster like the thrown monster would be enough to sense the danger, but dodging it might be harder because of the larger space and only a little time. If he planned it well at the right moment, even a powerful enemy would be vulnerable for a few secondsâenough for him to finish it.
The strength of the space hold depends on how much mana he used. With 50 mana per couple of seconds used on himself, it took him about 2 seconds to break free using all his strength with mana body enhancement on its full power.
But if he used his lightning affinity to make a big burst of lightning around him at the same time and used everything before, he could break free almost instantly.
But it would take him about 30 mana to do everything. This amount of mana was one-fourth of a normal level 10 apprentice, and if experiencing it for the first time, they might not even be able to escape that quickly.
However, this was only when he limited himself to 50 mana usage to hold the enemy for a few seconds. He had so much manaâwhy would he limit himself in a proper fight? He would end it as fast as possible if the enemy was strong.
As for most people, he doesnât even think he would need to use his space element at all.
He hasnât even tried to make combo attacks with ice and lightning. He knew they were going to be devastating, but it would be for a later time, as he felt like he had to leave for lunch now.
He wasnât where he liked to be, as he was still close to his goal for the space element, and he hadnât even started with the life element and skills he had to level up to.
Still, it was a fruitful endeavor considering only 4 hours had passed in the outside world.
His consciousness came out of the dimension with just a thought. He looked at the clockâthere were still 5 minutes left before the maid might come to take him. He decided to play around with his space element for the time being, using spatial energy around his room to teleport small objects. At first, it felt weird, but only after doing it a couple of times, did he get accustomed to it.
Knock Knock
Hearing the knock on the door, he walked up to the door and opened it. Instead of any maid, he found Kaela, Seraphineâs most trusted knight, standing at the door.
He didnât wait for her to tell him anything and said instead.
"Letâs go. The commander must be waiting for me at the dining table."
In response, Kaela answered instantly and started leading him.
"As you wish, young master Leon."
He glanced at her for a moment as she seemed to recognize him even after the change.
"Hmm. So you know, Kaela."
Kaela, leading him, answered him.
"Of course, it wasnât hard for me to notice it, young master. Despite being taller and much older-looking in appearance, you resemble your previous self quite a lot. And itâs not just meâmost of the staff inside the mansion must have realized it too. But in their mind, they would find it hard to believe this fact as you look much older after only a few days, and your strange eyes must also be confusing to them."
Leon heard her. He hadnât had much contact with her before, only talked to her a couple of times over the course of three years, but he didnât know she was this talkative. But what she said was true indeed.
"You are right, Kaela. They think I am my own older brother." He paused for a moment and asked her with curiosity this time.
"What do you think Master would do about this?"
She almost answered him instantly, as she seemed happy to answer him.
"Of course, my lady would tell everyone that you are the same young master Leon from before, and your class awakening had caused these changes."
Despite hearing her confident tone, Leon doesnât seem to think what she said would happen, because he doesnât think it was a common thing for people to age 5 years in a few days just because of their class awakening.
"I think you are wrong, Kaela, on this one."
Kaela heard him, and she didnât think it was weird for him to think that way, because he didnât know how loyal all the people under her were to her. They could even give up their lives if it was for her, and it was the same for her.
She doesnât know why, but Leon felt different from when she had seen him today entering her ladyâs office. She couldnât tell what it was, but he was different in some way even if he looked the same. It was just her intuition, but she didnât give it much thought.
For she had a plan to make her lady even more happy. She did have become much happiness after Leonâs arrival, but the more happy she would be, the more accomplished Kaela would feel in her duty as her knight.
"Why donât we make a bet about this, young master Leon?"
"A bet?" Leon exclaimed. While he doesnât think he would lose, she does seem quite confident, which makes him cautious.
"If itâs a bet, whatâs going to be on the stakes?"
"Hmm, for my end itâs not going to be something hard for you to do, but if you win, I will give you one gold coin."
âOne Gold Coinâ
If it was before exchanging his wealth, he would have scoffed at her, but right now 1 gold coin was a very enticing amount for him. He didnât want to give up on it when it was such easy money, but he added a condition just to be cautious.
"I wonât do anything that would harm me even in the slightest, and if I deem what youâre asking to be too much for one gold coin, I would reject your demand."
