Victoria wanted to test his reaction speed and spell casting spell but Roman was hitting all the targets, as long as his eyes could see the target he shot a spell towards it.
She knew Roman was struggling but still, she could tell he truly had potential.
"Donât forget," she called, "your Mana is limitedâdonât waste too much on a single target."
Roman forced himself to control it better, letting smaller fireballs fly, even though he could control it he still wasnât perfect.
The test went on. His breathing grew louder in his ears. The sweat made his shirt stick to his back, and he knew he was running out of Mana once again.
At some point, he almost stumbled forward, but caught himself, gritting his teeth, Victoria wasnât stopping at all, instead the target were faster.
Another target. Roman raised his hand.
[Fireball]
The flame struck, the target vanished, and another rose again.
Romanâs heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst. Still, he kept going. Step by step, spell by spell.
Finally, the last target vanished, and no new shadow rose, Roman looked around and nothing.
Romanâs hand dropped to his side, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath.
Victoria stood up slowly, brushing the sand from her dress as she walked towards him. "Not bad, Roman. Your reaction time needs work, and your Mana control is still rough, but you didnât give up. That matters."
She knew he did exceptionally well for a male just learning magic, but tell him that wouldnât make him work hard, Victoria wanted to see how far he could go.
Roman smirked tiredly, sweat dripping down his jaw. "So... do I pass?"
"For today," Victoria said, her lips curling slightly. "Tomorrow, it gets harder"
Roman let out a slow, shaky breath. "Of course it does...so weâre done for today"
Roman sat on the sand breathing heavily, she didnât really teach him anything since she was just testing him.
"Roman I have something to ask, why do you really want to attend the academy, it canât possibly be to fight demons?" Victoria spoke as she stood in front of him.
"Why canât it be?" Roman replied looking at her.
"I assure you, it isnât what you think it is, fighting another mage is far better than fighting a demon, there are so unexpected and if you make a single mistake, youâll lost your life right on the spot"
"Thatâs why Iâm in the academy, to get stronger"
"With your attitude I truly believe you can be a powerful mage even though youâre a male, also you should work on your Mana control, the pressure you felt this morning is going to continue all throughout our training session"
"Huh!"
"Why are you surprised, we should have covered a lot today but you spent the whole time on the ground, if you do that everyday then weâll have no time to train" Victoria spoke as she walked away.
"But you didnât teach me anything?" Roman spoke.
"Thatâs why I said itâs your fault, each day weâll train for an hour, and 30 minutes...if you can touch me under ten minutes then weâll have a lot of time to train, bye now"
Victoria exited the building and closed the door behind her.
âWhat the heck is that, so I have to pass through that each time, haa...â Roman lay down on the sand as he looked around the building.
âI thought we were going to have sex today, at least that way I can get a massive increase to a particular stats, and then I can sleep with Ava again this nightâ
âIt takes time to recover my Mana, Iâm just going to rest here for a while, ohh maybe I can train here and test my other spells, since weâre training in secret here, Iâm sure no one is going to come hereâ
âVictoria already left so I can just test my spell when I recover some of my Mana, except [Summon] I donât want to end up on a beastâs menu, systemâ

âWith all the spells I casted my Mana is still at this level, given all the spell were weak itâs expected but still, I didnât count but Iâm sure I fired more than 20 spellsâ
âWith Mana control, casting spells is o much easier, but to deal actual damage Iâll need to increase the amount of Mana per spellsâ
âI also canât tell the difference my spell power made, I still have a lot to learnâ
Roman stood up and stretched his hands, even though he was tired since his Mana was depleted, he wanted to try out his other spells and see.
âI already tried out the illusion spell so Iâll start with the rune spellâ
Runes worked a little different from the others since thereâs no spell circle but instead symbol you draw with your Mana, Roman already had the knowledge of how to cast the spells in his head.
[Light Rune]
Roman infused Mana and draw a symbol in the air and a tiny ball of light materialized in the air, it was directly in front of him but a little higher and Roman walked around as the ball of light followed him around.
Roman stared at the small ball of light floating near his head. It wasnât very brightâjust enough to cast a faint glow on the sand around himâbut it still felt like an achievement.
Back when he was still in the village, he was afraid of casting this same spell just because he could infuse it with too much Mana and pass out.
âSo this is [Light Rune]... it follows me around automatically, not bad.â
He walked a bit faster, turning in circles, and the light moved to keep up, hovering close but never touching him.
Roman reached up and waved his hand through it. His fingers passed right through, only feeling a slight warmth.
âIt doesnât drain much Mana after casting... probably because itâs a low-level spell. Might be useful in caves, dungeon or at night when doing the deedâ Roman smile as he thought of it.
He dispelled it, the light fading into nothing, he could easily dispel it since he knew how.
âAlright, next... [Blood Bind], for this I need a little blood, how am I going to get blood, I donât have something sharp to cut myself with, I should just try itâ
Roman closed his eyes, focusing his Mana, he stretched his hands and even without pushing Mana, Mana began moving towards his hands as the spell circle formed in front of his hands
[Blood Bind]
A thin red string of Mana formed in his hand, swirling like smoke before it solidified into a whip-like shape and then curled around itself and hardened.
Roman blinked. He didnât have any open wounds but still blood was created, he didnât want to question it and just simply picked up the hardened blood from the ground.
This spell was currently the slowest spell he had, he couldnât hope to catch anything with it and it wouldnât even be able to bind both of his legs, it also canât be shot.
âIt uses more Mana too... pretty useless for a blood spellâ
Next, he moved to [Arcane Spark].
Now Roman was more confident as he pushed Mana into his hand creating the spell circle, and small crackles of purple sparks danced across his fingertips.
They felt warm, tingling against his skin and shot forward, the sparks sparked out like a weak jolt, vanishing into the air.
âNot very strong, but quick... maybe good for interrupting someoneâs spell, and I can fire it in quick succession tooâ
Roman tried it again, but the sparks barely reached a meter before fading.
His Mana was draining faster now. He could feel the warmth in his chest getting weaker, it was like his Mana core was getting harder and harder to sense as he was running out of Mana.
Finally, the last spell was [Minor Enchant].
The spell was used to strength objects like swords, but there was nothing around him, he was in a large empty room so he couldnât try it, and then a thought came to him.
âWhat if I try summon but with the smallest possible amount of Mana, I wonât be able to summon a dangerous beast that wayâ
âI can tell this is a bad idea but I so want to do it, and I canât find someone because Iâll be exposing myself as a summoner...maybe Iâll try itâ
Roman sighed weakly, he knew it was a bad idea but he couldnât get himself to stop thinking about it, and suddenly his hands was stretched out.
[Summon]
Instead of the magic circle appearing in front of him, it appeared some few away and from the magic circle a flying creature came out.
âI knew it, with my Mana I wouldnât be able to summon dangerous beasts, itâs just a hawkâ
The creature was a normal hawk he knew back on earth, but of course this was a world of magic and there was nothing normal, the hawk first began flying around the building in a circle and soon Roman realized he was in the circle.
The next moment the hawk swoop down towards him.
