No way, Lin Fan supports building a public toilet?
Everyone was a bit surprised.
Lin Fan smiled and said, "Of course I support it. Isnāt the main theme of rural areas now poverty alleviation? Our West River Village is a poor village, and itās necessary to get rid of poverty and become prosperous. Just like the village chief said, tourism is one direction. If we can really attract tourists, building a public toilet is absolutely necessary. Itās such a great deal. How could I oppose it?"
The village chiefās reason for wanting to build a public toilet here was mainly to retaliate against Lin Fan, making Lin Fan uncomfortable.
Unexpectedly, Lin Fan didnāt look uncomfortable at all and even agreed, making the village chief feel like he punched into cotton.
However, thinking about it again, Lin Fan might be pretending to agree on the surface, but who knows how uncomfortable he must be inside. After all, who would be happy to have a public toilet built at their doorstep?
The village chief chuckled, "Since Lin Fan agrees, then itās easy. The public toilet is decided, letās get to work and strive to build it as soon as possible!"
"Wait a minute." Lin Fan said.
The village chief exclaimed, "Lin Fan, do you have something else to say? Are you going back on your word?"
It would be best if Lin Fan went back on his word, indicating that Lin Fan wasnāt pleased, and with the public toilet determined, it would make Lin Fan unhappy.
Lin Fan said, "I completely agree with building the public toilet, thereās no going back on that. I just have a different opinion about the location. I think building it here isnāt the best choice and is actually quite poor. This place is far from the village entrance, and tourists usually park their cars at the village square. If they want to use the toilet, they need to walk some distance after getting off their vehicles and navigate around the village, which is quite inconvenient. So, the ideal location should be near the village entrance by the square. Coincidentally, isnāt the village chiefās house over there? I remember thereās a plot of vegetable land next to the village chiefās house, which is the perfect site. What do you think, village chief?"
What?
Lin Fan is turning the tables!
Everyone understood it; Lin Fan agreed to build the public toilet to counter the village chief.
Now Lin Fan proposed a new location, logical and reasonable, indeed an ideal site.
Poof!
Shanshan couldnāt help but laugh out loud.
Her brother didnāt disappoint her. She knew her brother wouldnāt give in so easily.
Father Lin also understood and nodded, "Little Fan is right!"
The village chief was almost fuming with anger. He wanted to build a public toilet opposite Lin Fanās house, but Lin Fan countered with a suggestion to build one beside his own house!
And Lin Fanās reasoning was solid, making it hard to refute.
The village chief chuckled, "Lin Fan, youāre mistaken. The vegetable plot beside my house isnāt suitable for a public toilet. Weāve been planting vegetables there for over a decade."
Lin Fan said, "So what about the vegetable plot? Just like the village chief said, itās right to make small personal sacrifices for the collective good. As the village chief, you should set an example, right? Let everyone see your spirit of sacrifice."
Using someoneās own tactics against them!
Everyone couldnāt help but chuckle secretly; Lin Fan was being very ruthless.
The village chief was so mad. He initially used the term āspirit of sacrificeā to morally coerce the Lin family, demanding they make sacrifices for collective good. Now Lin Fan was turning it back on him!
If he refused, wouldnāt he be humiliating himself, providing an excuse for others to talk? Where would he have any authority in the village after this?
But if he genuinely made the sacrifice, heād have to allow the public toilet to be built next to his house.
Of course, he didnāt want that.
"Village chief, what are you hesitating about? Donāt tell me youāre unwilling to give up your vegetable plot?" Lin Fan said with a smile.
The village chief huffed, "Just a vegetable plot, thereās nothing to be unwilling about. For the collective good, I can give it up at any time. But I just donāt think itās suitable for a public toilet!"
Lin Fan responded, "Why? I hope the village chief can give a convincing reason?"
The village chief said, "I say itās not suitable, and itās not suitable. Thatās the result of my inspection!"
Lin Fan said, "Village chief, saying itās not suitable doesnāt convince people."
The village chief sneered, "Lin Fan, are you the village chief or am I? Who decides where the public toilet is built, me or you?"
Lin Fan replied, "Of course, itās you."
The village chief said, "Good you know it. We have different opinions, thatās fine, but ultimately I make the decision. After thorough inspection, building it here is the most suitable, so thereās no need to discuss further. Itās settled!"
Lin Fan chuckled, "Although you make the decision, you still need to listen to public opinion, right? Now I think thereās a better place, and my reasoning is quite convincing. Yet, the village chief insists on building it here without a reason that convinces everyone. Isnāt that not so good? Iām just concerned the village chief would face criticism."
The village chief couldnāt have any reasoning; his reason was to retaliate against Lin Fan.
But this reason, naturally, couldnāt be spoken out loud.
The village chief found himself unable to counter Lin Fan and scowled, "Lin Fan, youāre just spouting nonsense because you donāt want the public toilet opposite your house. Thatās selfish and not considering the collective good. Stop talking; the public toilet will be built here. Iāve decided!"
The village chief couldnāt argue with Lin Fan and resorted to using his position to pressure him.
Everyone exchanged looks, secretly criticizing the village chief; this was too shameless!
Lin Fan said, "Village chief, building a public toilet opposite my house is targeting me, isnāt it?"
Lin Fan called it out!
The village chief immediately said, "Lin Fan, what are you talking about? Iām here for the collective good. Donāt falsely accuse me!"
Lin Fan said, "Is that so? Isnāt it because I refused to treat your son, so youāre retaliating against me?"
The village chief said, "No, thatās not what happened! Lin Fan, stop slandering me!"
Lin Fan replied, "It seems I misunderstood. Then why else would the village chief ignore my opinion when I have reasonable arguments?"
The village chief was furious; he couldnāt argue with Lin Fan. If it were a debate for the win, he had completely lost.
The village chief huffed, "Lin Fan, why are you chattering away? Stop talking. Itās decided; letās see who opposes it!"
"Can I oppose it?"
A voice suddenly spoke.
Everyone looked toward the voice and saw a potbellied middle-aged man, hands behind his back, walking over.
A stranger, who is this?
The villagers were curious. He looked like an official, but they didnāt recognize him, hadnāt seen him before.
The village chief saw the person, his face changed, startled, and exclaimed, "County, County Chief? Why are you here? What brings you here?"
The village chief laughed awkwardly.
The newcomer was the county chief!
His immediate superior!
Heavens, why did the county chief suddenly come? It was really unexpected.
What the?
The county chief came? Everyone was bewildered.
The county chief chuckled, "If I hadnāt come, I wouldnāt have encountered this matter. Old Chen, this isnāt the right way to handle things!"
