Ding Dong
Hearing the doorbell, Amanda hurried toward the door.
She had been arranging Kyleâs clothes in the wardrobe, which was why it took her a moment to get there.
When she finally opened it, she froze in surprise at the sight of a bouquet of flowers extended toward her.
"Waah... lilies?" Amanda exclaimed, her eyes widening as she recognized the white flowers she loved most. "Thank you."
A bright smile bloomed across her face as she accepted them.
Kyle smiled back. "I saw them near the building and thought of you, so I picked them up."
He stepped inside and began changing his shoes.
Amanda lifted the flowers closer, breathing in their gentle fragrance. For a moment, she found herself torn between placing them in a vase and simply holding them forever.
Kyle somehow sensed her dilemma and chuckled.
"If you keep hugging them, then who am I supposed to hug?"
Amanda blinked.
In an instant, every trace of conflict vanished.
Without a secondâs hesitation, she placed the flowers in a vase and stood up straight. Slowly extending her arms toward him, she softly said,
"Here..."
Kyleâs smile deepened.
He leaned down slightly, wrapped his arms around her back, and lifted her effortlessly into the air.
Amandaâs feet left the ground. A moment later, she curled her long legs around his waist, trapping him in an embrace as she buried herself against his chest, snuggling as close as she possibly could.
His scent...
Comforting. Familiar.
Home.
"I must be sweaty."
"Even better," she muttered, so quietly that he barely caught it.
Carrying her in his arms, Kyle slowly made his way toward the living area.
"What did you buy today?" he asked. "I hope you arenât spending too much, or Iâm going to start feeling guilty."
Amanda pulled back slightly and frowned at him.
"We talked about this a long time ago." Her voice was gentle, but her expression left little room for argument. "Whatâs mine is yours, so letâs not start fighting about it again."
The disapproval in her eyes was obvious.
She buried her face against his chest once more and rubbed her cheek against him as though claiming ownership.
Kyle could only smile helplessly.
Just like his brother, Amanda spent a great deal on him.
It didnât make him uncomfortable, but he couldnât help feeling that he should be doing something for them in return. All his life, he had been on the receiving end of kindness.
And now, even though he had work, he wasnât earning anything.
âI need to talk to Veronica about it...â
Even that made him hesitate. Knowing her personality, she might try to hand him money herself even if the associationâs rules prohibited it.
Haah...
He was surrounded by far too many kind people.
A truly difficult burden to bear.
"Mm... not the chair. The couch," Amanda complained when she noticed him heading toward the kitchen.
"But babe, I wanted to cook something for us." Kyle glanced down at her. "Iâm kind of hungry, and weâre having a guest later."
Amanda immediately pulled away, confusion replacing her contentment.
"What guest?"
"Veronica."
The moment he answered, he saw her expression stiffen.
Kyle didnât retreat from the topic or pretend not to notice.
"I invited her over. She seems to have developed this misconception that youâre some strict, possessive girlfriend who wonât even let me be friends with her..."
His sentence came to an abrupt stop.
Amanda pressed a finger against his lips, silencing him.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"But I am exactly that kind of girlfriend," she said. "The kind who wants her boyfriendâs attention focused on her all the time."
Kyle tilted his head and simply stared at her.
Amanda held his gaze for a few seconds before sighing and looking away.
Silence settled between them.
Neither spoke.
One of them had to give in.
Considering Kyle hadnât moved an inch from where he stood, Amanda quickly realized it wasnât going to be him.
With a soft groan, she muttered, "Fine. I understand."
After a brief pause, she added,
"I know the two of you are close, so Iâll allow her to invade our little love nest."
A warm smile appeared on Kyleâs face.
Leaning forward, he gently pressed a kiss against her lips.
She pouted.
"Not enough. I need a few more."
Kyle chuckled softly.
"Can I sit down first?"
"No." Amanda shook her head immediately. "Kiss me like that. I need a lot more kisses before youâre allowed to sit down."
Kyle hummed thoughtfully.
Then, without warning, he stepped forward.
Amandaâs back met the wall as he closed the distance between them, trapping her completely within the circle of his arms.
Her breath hitched.
The sudden proximity alone was enough to send her heart racing.
One of his hands settled around her waist while the other cupped her full rear, drawing her even closer. His fingers brushed against the exposed skin just beneath her shirt, a fleeting touch that sent a shiver through her entire body.
Amanda could feel the steady warmth radiating from him.
Far too close.
Far too unfair.
Under the soft lighting, his eyes seemed darker than usual. A faint smile lingered at the corner of his lips, carrying a confidence that made her pulse quicken even further.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
They simply stared at each other.
Amanda could practically hear her own heartbeat.
Her face grew hotter and hotter until she was certain she had turned completely red.
This was ridiculous.
One smile, one look, and he had already won.
But...the fact was, she didnât mind losing.
When he leaned forward and paused just before her lips, she was already panting.
In a faint voice, he whispered, "You know what a guy absolutely loves to eat after a hard day at work?"
Amanda took a strong gulp, her fingers curling around his shirt.
Kyle didnât make her wait for long. Itâs time to coax his princess.
