*Cough!*
*Cough!*
Nathan was dumbstruck. He had suspected her intention was something like this, but he never thought Regina would suddenly become so bold.
"What are you doing? Arenāt you supposed to be a princess?"
"Oh my. Itās normal for a princess to get married. And right now, there is someone suitable right in front of me." Regina smiled seductively, crossing her legs.
Nathan was speechless. āHow in the world did you suddenly become so shameless? Or have I pushed her so much that she has no choice but to do this in desperation?ā
Nathanās eyebrows twitched. He grabbed her wrist and gently pushed her away. "Your Highness. Please respect yourself."
Regina bit her lip. "Am I not beautiful?"
"You are very beautiful, more beautiful than most women in the world."
"Then, am I not sexy enough?"
"The one who says yes might have a different orientation."
"Then why? Donāt you like mature women? I can become anyone you like. You just have to tell me about it."
Nathan dropped his jaw. "What? Who slandered me?"
"His Imperial Majesty told me."
Nathan felt like spurting blood. What actually happened? How did the emperor slander him?
"Iām not sure what youāre talking about? How in the world did you reach that conclusion?"
Regina sighed. "Donāt you have several women already? Luna, Evelyn, Bella, Vivian, and even Melissa."
Nathan scratched the back of his head. "Itās true about Luna, Evelyn, and Bella. But Melissa is not. Besides, I already have fiancees back home. Some are of the same age, and even if theyāre older, the age gap is not more than two years. So, you misunderstand me. Whether you are a mature woman or not is not exactly the reason."
"..." Reginaās face turned pale soon after. She never thought she would face such a day where she would be rejected because of a misconception of oneās preferences.
She dropped to the ground and gasped. "You... You..."
Nathan sighed helplessly. "You misunderstood me."
Reginaās embarrassment soared to the peak. She had trained herself on the front line, becoming as tough as a stone.
Yet, this embarrassment was too much for someone like her that tears were subconsciously leaking out of the corner of her eyes.
"This... This..."
Nathan was dumbfounded and soon panicked. Her age was almost twice his, so he didnāt expect her to cry.
"Ehm, this..." Nathan wondered what he should say in this situation.
"I canāt marry anymore." Regina dropped to the ground. She couldnāt help but remember the āhellishā training that her brother forced her to capture Nathanās heart, but it turned out to be useless.
"Your Highness. Please donāt cry. You are definitely a very attractive woman. Thereās no one who can deny that."
"Then, will you marry me?"
Nathan smiled wryly. "Sorry, but I have to refuse. Iām going to return to my continent after this is done."
"..." Regina looked devastated.
Nathan felt like screaming to ask for help, but it would become a disaster if anyone saw what happened in this room.
"I believe Your Highness will find a man more compatible than me."
"Then why did you choose Luna? Arenāt you supposed to be returning to your continent?"
āArenāt you supposed to talk about my offer of the magic gun and the summoning circle? Why are we talking about this?ā was what Nathan wanted to say, but he could only reply, "Lunaās matter has been decided. Sarfan Eleren will remain as the family head of the Eleren family.
"Thatās what Iāve promised to Luna. We will just stop him because he has been corrupted by the Death Society. In exchange, Luna will help me fight the aliens, not just in this world, but also in their world."
Regina bit her lip. There was a slight hesitation in her heart. This was what differentiated her from Luna.
If Luna were the one in front of him, she would say without hesitation that she would follow him.
However, Regina had some hesitation because of the empire. If she left, there was no guarantee that it would benefit the empire.
This was why he never chose Regina. Besides, the scheme was a bit too deep, so he didnāt want to get entangled in this messy politics.
Nathan let out a long sigh. "Your Highness. Please allow me to say this. Sometimes, there are things that are never meant to be together.
"However, I can guarantee you I wonāt do anything to harm the empire. All I want is just to end this war against the aliens and the black cell.
"I have seen... the powerful being that once created portals connecting this world to the alien world will once again descend upon this land and destroy this world.
"Thatās why you can rest assured that my attention has never been on the empire."
"..." Reginaās body shook. She realized something after what he said. For some reason, her heart felt slightly relieved after his words.
She came to the realization that her heart would never belong to him. It would always belong to the empire.
That was why they couldnāt be together.
Regina lowered her head. āAh... Iām so pathetic. We have two different principles in the first place, and those two principles will never combine.ā
This was probably the first time she had felt such heartbreak. This was not an ordinary heartbreak.
She couldnāt give up her principles, nor could he. She had learned a lot about political marriage, but political marriages could succeed if they at least shared one same intention.
But there was no such thing between them.
Regina just kept looking down as her tears streamed down her eyes. She didnāt say anything afterward, which made the atmosphere awkward.
Nathan scratched the back of his head. This was indeed hard, but there was nothing he could do.
Nathan sighed inwardly and closed his eyes. Rather than continuing to say anything and making it worse, he remained silent for a while, letting Regina sort her mind first.
āI wonder if Iāve made a mistake...ā
