The funeral for the Sword Saint was held. His status and achievements couldnāt be ignored by anyone from the Azilia Kingdom. Even the other kingdoms sent their envoys to pay respect to him.
Zack never thought he would watch his father die so soon. However, he was more worried about Noelle.
When her brother, William, was born, Sullivan had just returned to the family, so it might be awkward for William and Sullivan.
However, Noelle was born after Sullivan had truly become a proper grandfather. That was why Noelle admired Sullivan the most in the family.
To lose him right before her eyes would be devastating.
"Father..." William looked worried. "I can take care of this. How about you have a chat with Noelle?"
William glanced to the side where Noelle and the girls were located. Noelle was just standing with an empty gaze.
Zack gulped down. "Noelle admired him the most. I learned he was supposed to have Selenaās master and father take care of the mission. However, to challenge themselves, Noelle actually proposed to handle the mission."
"!!!" William widened his eyes. He finally understood why Noelle would be so devastated.
She felt guilty for causing his death. If she hadnāt even been there, Sullivan would still be alive.
"I have to tell you that as the future head of the Flamante family. Do you resent her for that?"
William shook his head. "We both know Noelle is not the type of person. This is just a series of unfortunate events. Iām just afraid that Noelle wouldnāt think that way and blame himself."
Zack nodded in agreement. "Thank you, Son."
"Donāt thank me, Father. Iām not worthy to be her brother. I donāt even know what to say to her right now. I wish I could comfort her."
Zack smiled. "I will take care of that."
Zackās expression became firm. He lost his family in the past because he isolated his father after his mother died.
He didnāt want the same thing to happen to Noelle. It was his duty as a father to ensure that never happened.
However, he was glad about one thing. Sullivan might have been nagging her a lot regarding it, but even in this hopeless situation, Noelle was not alone.
Selena and the others were here.
He just hoped Nathan would return safe and sound. If something happened to him, Noelle might end up being overcome with grief.
...
The Land of Death.
Elysion stood on the balcony of his mansion. He closed his eyes with a pained look. "I see. Even you canāt escape your death.
"I thought it would be possible when I told you about your death back then, but the death was predestined. It didnāt come to you back then, but that didnāt mean it wouldnāt come to you forever."
Elysion let out a long sigh. "More and more deaths are coming until all humans are dead.
"My disciple. I donāt know what you want your master to do about this. However, please rest. Youāve passed your torch, and itās time for your master to help that torch stay alight."
...
Nathan closed his eyes with a heavy breath. After listening to the story, he finally understood what had happened.
"Thank you for telling me all that." Nathan paused for a moment. "I wonāt tell you it was not your fault whatsoever. However, I did have one share of responsibility here."
"What? No way. You were busy on another continent." Noelle shook her head furiously.
"No..." Nathan stopped her. "Before this, Vivian had passed me a message from Elysion Aquamoon, the strongest summoner on this continent. Even the elder she asked me to visit had said the same thing. When I encounter a helpless situation, I should go north.
"I had never understood that meaning until now. The helpless situation he was talking about was this. I should have realized how helpless I would be when I went to another continent.
"I should have arranged something else. I should have gone to Elysion Aquamoon and made that request, no matter the price.
"However, I was too complacent myself. I thought I had overcome all the challenges and believed that the helpless situation he was talking about had yet to arrive."
Nathan shook his head helplessly. He felt guilty because he hadnāt made enough preparation.
If he had, he could have prevented Sullivanās death.
He might not know Elysionās strength, but the fact that Sullivan, who was someone possessing the power of rule, was still weaker than him meant Elysion had possessed at least two rules.
With his strength, he could have protected them from that alpha class alien.
His arrogance had caused Sullivanās death.
Vivian almost forgot about this message. But it could indeed be interpreted this way.
Nathan had grown strong enough that someone with two rules might not be enough to kill him.
So, this helpless situation couldnāt be anything other than this alpha class alien.
"NO!" Noelle shouted, denying Nathanās claim.
Flora hurriedly stood up. "Noelle. You have done enough. Letās get some rest."
"Donāt stop me." Noelle bit her lip. Her eyes were filled with anger. Normally, Noelle would be the hardest to get mad, but her emotions became unstable.
Flora hurriedly released her energy to make Noelle sleep. "Huu... Sorry. She has overcome her guilt, but her emotions are still unstable. Whenever there is an argument, she would be like this."
"Let me take care of her." Xolotlās voice suddenly echoed.
"!!!" Everyone was startled.
"Xolotl? Arenāt you drinking with Garuda on the roof?" Nathan asked.
"Do you think I canāt hear you from up there? Donāt underestimate my hearing." Xolotl looked at Noelle. "I will take care of her."
"What are you talking about? You mentioned the power of sacrifice before..." Nathan frowned.
"Her progress should have become even faster ever since that incident, right?" Xolotl asked.
"Y-Yes. How do you know?" Flora nodded.
"Thatās the power of negative emotions. If itās cultivated properly, she will become strong, very strong. But most of the time, people get overwhelmed by negative emotions and fall into madness."
"!!!" Flora and the others were shocked. They had never heard of this.
"Negative emotions? Are they different from the original sins?" Sera asked. Asmodeus had never said anything about this.
"Itās different. Anyway, Iāll take care of her. At least I can make her stable and let her continue on this path. As long as she can control it, she will be the same. Itās rare to find someone who ends up possessing a negative emotion." Xolotl grinned.
Nathan smiled wryly. "Well, I think itās fine to leave her to Xolotl. Heās very reliable."
