Chapter 922: First Meeting, and Two Transactions
Luke took another sip of his Coke unhurriedly. âI wonât force you to hurt those âcuteâ masked men. I only care about the hitmen.â
Wade was lost for words. What the hell?
Only then did he remember that although vigilantes werenât popular with the police, hitmen were undoubtedly more suitable targets. The person in front of him happened to be a police officer.
He just didnât know why the LAPD police had come to steal NYPDâs job.
But that had nothing to do with him.
Luke took another sip of Coke and shook the bottle in his hand as he watched the liquid fizz. âInvestigate each hitman, and look especially at how dangerous they are. Each person will be 100 to 1000 dollars.â
âThat little?â Wade couldnât help but cry out.
Luke chuckled. âThis is an information fee. I only want information on their appearance, body build, background and aliases. Iâm not asking you to kill them.â
Wade listened and calculated in his heart.
The huge bounty this time would attract at least hundreds of hitmen who wanted to get rich, and some of them were definitely very powerful.
He didnât need to investigate everything about the other party, like where they were staying.
As long as it was something he heard, he could just report it to this big man. He might even be able to increase the information fee.
If several dozen were too few, couldnât he just make up over a hundred fake reports for this big man? That way, he would get tens of thousands of dollars.
Thinking that, he smiled and said, âIsnât that too low? Boss, how about increasing it a little?â
Luke said, âYou think itâs too little? Then calculate my commission from last time. In your line of work, it should be 10 to 30%. Iâll take a middle value of 20%. Last time, you earned at least seven figures. Iâll calculate at the lowest amount of a million, so 20% is 200,000...â
Wade subconsciously questioned, âIsnât half of 30% 15%?â
Luke raised an eyebrow. âSo, youâre going to give me 150,000?â
Hearing that he now suddenly had a six-figure debt, Wade decisively raised his hands in surrender. âOkay, I think the price youâre offering is very reasonable. I canât wait to get to work. Itâs a deal, baby!â
With that, he finished the glass of whiskey in one gulp and ran off.
Holding his Coke, Luke stood up and said to Selina, âLetâs go.â
The bartender not far away suddenly said, âI can also provide you information. How about using the price you mentioned?â
Luke chuckled. âArenât you afraid that Wade will come after you?â
The bartender snorted. âHeâs good at killing people. When it comes to looking for information, heâs a lot worse.â
Luke hummed and looked at the customers in the bar. âYouâre not going to sell me their information, are you?â
The bartender shrugged. âIf itâs possible, of course I donât mind, but the people here probably donât have any hitman credentials. Otherwise, why would they hang out here to drink?â
Luke asked, âHow long do you need?â
The bartender said, âYou can come the day after tomorrow.â
Luke nodded. âDeal.â He was about to leave.
The bartender stopped him again. âWait.â
Luke: âHm?â
The bartender said, âYouâre new, so I have to accept a deposit. Remember, itâs a deposit.â
Luke tossed a roll of cash into the glass jar. âThen you have to work harder. Donât run out of even the deposit.â
Watching Luke and Selina, the bartender took out the roll of cash from the glass jar and placed it under the counter.
âA client whom Wade can curry favor with is indeed very rich!â the bartender murmured.
Luke had given him the standard 100-dollar super roll, which contained 2,000 dollars.
In their line of work, a deposit was 50% of the amount, but only those with good credibility and ability could get it. Ordinarily, it was 20% first.
In other words, Luke had put aside 10,000 dollars for him.
This was a rare big deal.
Thinking that, the bartender quickly walked behind the counter and picked up the phone.
...
Just as Luke arrived at the lab, Robert called him. âCheck the fax, I sent you the sketch.â
Luke hung up and looked at the fax that had just been sent over. âLittle Snail, compare this image with the suspected targets in the database. Let me know if you find anything.â
After giving the instructions, he looked at the sketch and mumbled, âReally fierce-looking, but he has the aura of a bigshot. He was probably more popular than Robert.â
The man in the sketch had small eyes, a big nose, a trapezoid face, and short hair. He had a cold expression and a strong body.
Yes, it was a full-body sketch.
After examining the sketch for a moment, Luke smiled. âCatherineâs drawing skills have improved again. Sheâs pretty good.â
Putting the sketch into his inventory, he added two more points to his Mental Strength to make it 39.
Looking at the number 39, he said expectantly, âIâll be able to taste 40 tomorrow.â
As Luke and Selina went home to rest, Manhattan was especially lively at night.
There were people in many high vantage points in Clinton and Harlem.
Every now and then, a couple of people would trade a look through their binoculars.
In the beginning, they could still maintain a tacit understanding.
They were all professionals who had come for the 10 million bounty. Few of them wanted to waste their time on other professionals.
But as two hitmen saw each other by chance through their binoculars, a case of âconfirming itâs my archnemesisâ happened.
There werenât many good-tempered hitmen, so they decisively started shooting.
After a series of intermittent gunshots, a man fell from the fifth floor and hit the street.
Soon, the patrol cars arrived.
The resident who called the police mentioned that the victim had a sniper rifle.
When the operator heard the call, he thought that the other party was joking.
There were a lot of people in America with guns, but those with high-end sniper rifles were either fanatics or professionals.
Soon after the patrol officers arrived, they reported the situation to headquarters.
The victim was dressed in black and was fully equipped. It was expensive, but not in the style of the police or the military.
Coupled with the SIG SSG sniper rifle, it was clear that this wasnât just some collector or fan.
These people would only enjoy their gun collection at home. They would only shoot them a few times at the shooting range, and wouldnât climb to the roof of their apartment building in the middle of the night to shoot the breeze.
As the police entered the battlefield, the scene gradually turned chaotic.
Finally, after the second pair of vengeful killers started fighting and accidentally injured a police officer, NYPD exploded like a cat that had been poked in the butt.
Not only did a large number of patrol cars rush to the crime scene in Harlem, even helicopters were deployed to investigate the rooftops in an attempt to find suspicious people.
Two ESU (Emergency Services Unit, SWAT type in New York City) teams also arrived, ready to go to war with the professionals.
Most of the hitmen chose to retreat.
There was no reward for killing the police, and their target was nowhere to be seen. They had to be crazy to mess with NYPD.
