Chapter 1698: I Made the Decision For You, No Need to Thank Me
From the tones and expressions of the two women, Luke could tell that the taller one had won.
Thinking for a moment, he decided to intervene.
It wasnât a problem for people to work hard, but they should be amply prepared beforehand in order to minimize any risks.
The tall woman was clearly only thinking about making money, and hadnât considered what would happen if she lost too much.
If that happened, she might resort to other means â like doing things on the sly.
As a powerhouse who had made a fortune through side businesses, Luke felt that he should teach her a thing or two.
If it was that easy to make a fortune through unconventional means, everyone in the world would do it.
Look at how various underworld bigshots got big â ultimately, their huge success still depended on their own business acumen.
Otherwise, if everybody could do it, why would it just be the bigshots who made a fortune?
Besides, it was very risky to try and open a side business.
Luke wasnât afraid. That was because he didnât have any power on the surface at all â from beginning to end, it was all his aliases. It would be hard for anyone to find him.
These two women had a cafe. If their identities were exposed, they could only abandon their fixed assets and run. That was the huge âinvestmentâ risk involved.
Earning more money definitely brought more troubles with it.
It seemed that âonline educationâ was never as effective as a fixed period of âhands-on training.â Luke sighed and felt that he had to change the mindsets of these two women.
âŠ
It was late at night, and the city lights were bright at the foot of the hill â it felt like looking down at the rest of the world.
Carol walked gloomily around the cafe.
A year ago, to avoid getting caught up in things, she and Lorna had been sent to South America together.
Rebecca had never shown herself, and had simply protected them from the shadows.
The two girls didnât like chaotic Rio. After sending Luke a message a few months later, they came to Santiago, Chile.
Actually, Carol wanted to go to Argentina and become a farm owner. She wanted to raise livestock and farm the land.
But Lorna wasnât Carol, who had âdiedâ once. She was younger and didnât want to live the life of a retiree so soon.
After they arrived, they used the unexpected wealth which they had gathered in Rio to open the cafe.
This was where they lived.
Carol wasnât partial to this business, but she was quite happy with the environment. Most of the time, she trained on the hill and rarely left.
The presence of a certain number of customers and employees every day ensured that she wasnât divorced from society.
Lorna, on the other hand, often went down the hill to enjoy life in the big city.
Both of them were satisfied with their lives.
In the last half-year, Lorna spent more and more time in the city. She frequently didnât come home for a day or two, and she started spending more and more.
The profits from the cafe werenât enough to support her spending.
Carol wasnât Lornaâs parent or sister. There was no need to care about her personal life.
Besides, Lorna was about to turn 18, and could be considered an adult.
The distribution of profits in the cafe and spending didnât affect the cafeâs operations either.
After several discussions without any outcome, Carol, who wasnât a forceful person, fell into a dilemma.
They had superpowers and had drawn a lot of trouble in America.
Carol felt that something might go wrong if this went on.
â
Sigh
, if Mr. Wilson was here, there might be a way,â she couldnât help but say for the umpteenth time.
Although Mr. Wilson was a mercenary, he was decisive and gave off a trustworthy air.
Also, he could open his mouth and close a business deal worth tens of millions. Lorna didnât have the courage to make a fuss in front of him.
âYou could have given me a call,â someone said among the trees not far away.
Shocked, Carol asked tentatively, âMr. Wilson?â
Taking a few steps forward,â â? she saw a middle-aged man in a brown T-shirt and combat pants sitting on a stone bench next to the path. It was none other than the âhelpful mercenaryâ she had thought of many times.
She was pleasantly surprised. âWhy are you here, Mr. Wilson?â
Luke took a sip of his coffee and smiled. âTo try your coffee. Itâs good.â
Saying that, he gestured for her to sit down.
Looking at the logo of her shop on the cup, Carol was a little embarrassed. âItâs all made by the barista. I donât have the skills.â
Luke gave her another cup. âItâs much harder to be a boss than an employee.â
After casually asking about her recent situation, he changed the topic. âDo you know about Lorna?â
Carol was shocked. âWhat is it?â
Luke looked at her and said, âSheâs pregnant.â
Carolâs eyes widened. âWhat?â
Looking at her face, Luke shook his head.?
You⊠Well, fine, you indeed donât have any experience.
He said casually, âIt seems you donât even know that she has a boyfriend?â
Carol lowered her head. âI⊠didnât know.â
She had always been a laidback person. She had sensed that Lorna was hiding something, but when Lorna didnât say anything when she asked, she didnât know what to do.
Luke thought for a moment before he said, âDo you want to go back to America? Or start a new life on your own elsewhere?â
Carol hesitated.
If she had her own opinions, Lorna wouldnât have taken the lead.
Luke sensed her mental fluctuations. âIf I make proper arrangements for Lorna, are you willing to start living your own life?â
For a long while, Carol was hesitant.
Luke understood completely.
Given Carolâs personality, it was obvious what she was thinking, or she wouldnât be so hesitant.
A person who was content with the current situation would subconsciously continue down the same path.
It wasnât that Carol was heartless; Lorna was already grown up and was pregnant.
From Lornaâs behavior in the past half-year, Carol felt that she had become unnecessary, which was why she wanted to break away.
Nobody would indulge anyone unconditionally in this world. When kids grew up, they rarely hung out with their parents, let alone friends who had just known each other for a few years.
âGot it.â Luke patted her shoulder when he got the answer he wanted. âIâll be here for a week or so. Arrange everything for yourself and say goodbye to Lorna.â
He then stood up.
Carol was flustered. âSo soon? Wait, Mr. Wilson, thatâŠâ
She didnât know what to say.
She was tempted by the idea, but she was also uneasy about her current life coming to a sudden end.
Luke looked down at her. âHm?â
Looking at his calm face, Carol paused.
âYouâre not good at making decisions, so I helped you make one. No need to thank me.â He patted her shoulder again and went down the hill.
Carol stood there blankly for a long time.
Luke reached the foot of the hill, and Selina met him on the other side.
She couldnât help but chuckle and bump his shoulder. ââI helped you. No need to thank me.â Young man, youâre becoming better and better at acting.â
âYou know that acting is useful, so you should work harder.â Luke rolled his eyes. If it were Selina, he wouldnât have needed to say something like that to her.
That was because Selina had her own thoughts. She would make a decision soon after Luke revealed everything.
Besides, it was never easy to make a decision for someone else, unless you thought nothing of them.
