2147 Side Story: Grand Plan (End)
In the end, the chairman of the board naturally got what she wanted. She lay lazily on the couch and enjoyed Lukeâs food delivery service.
It was just that dinner was a little long, and the sky had completely turned dark by the time it was over.
The food and entertainment spots in the small neighborhood around the building bustled with activity.
Whether beautiful or ugly, the typical American-style signboards of numerous venues were all lit up brightly here. They gave this part of Nassau County a slightly richer air, and were enough to satisfy the employees who lived in the staff dorms next door.
Being remote and ordinary also meant that it wasnât expensive; more importantly, it was convenient.
Those who stayed in the staff dorms either couldnât bear to squander money in New York, or were tech geeks who were too lazy to drive out.
These food and entertainment spots were right outside their place, which met their mental and physical needs.
Both of them were still cuddling on the couch. Luke had even gone out to get food and drinks, and switched out the mat.
Jenny, however, didnât even move when he changed the mat. She let him flip her over like a dead fish, and he put her down again after he changed the mat.
However, Jenny had finally changed into loose cotton home clothes. This way, she could better enjoy the cool night wind outside the French windows.
Staring at the night view, she murmured, âI remember that when I bought this building, there wasnât even a small supermarket here.â
Sensing her mental fluctuations, Luke stroked her. âThis is the result of your efforts to change this world.â
He couldnât help but want to laugh inwardly. Why did it feel like he was saying, âlook, this is the empire I built for youâ?
Jenny sighed. âIâve been feeling old lately, and less energetic.â
Luke was speechless.
He had personally examined her less than an hour ago. In terms of flexibility, endurance and vitality, she was better than an 18-year-old female gymnast.
The only thing she didnât have was the curves.
Apart from being more partial to a womanâs assets, Luke was fine with a thinner woman.
Of course, a pretty face could make up for the lack of curves.
Although the chairman of the board was lacking slightly in these two aspects, she was still far from flat.
Thoughts wandering, he subconsciously confirmed this.
Jenny turned around and glared. âLike I said, I havenât been very energetic recently.â
Luke came back to his senses and injected her with a trace of Light of Life. The chairmanâs eyes immediately softened, but she didnât forget to exclaim, âB*stard, youâre using that again.â
But a moment later, she realized that she had misunderstood something.
Luke drew his hand back solemnly. âDonât worry. I was examining you again. Youâre full of energy now, right?â
Jenny choked and lunged at him. âIâm going to bite you to death, you b*stard! Ah, what are you doing? Let go! I was kiddingâŠâ
A few minutes later, the chairman realized that Luke was also joking.
Lukeâs mouth relaxed, and he said solemnly to Jenny, who was breathing heavily, âHm, your teeth are very even, and your tongue is very quickâŠâ
Knowing that she had been tricked again, Jenny was so angry that she punched his eight-pack â lying down the way she was, she was too far away to punch his chest.
After laughing, Luke got down to business. âAfter the battle last year, the developers whom you were interested in were snapped up by other people, right? So, you havenât had anything to do for the past six months. You feel too free.â
âYes, thatâs pretty much it.â Jenny nodded, not surprised at all that he had hit the nail on the head. This guy was a top detective; reading people and reasoning were just the basic requirements.
Hm, fine, the chairman was still a little naive.
It was easy for a cheat who knew the right answer to deduce the logic leading up to it.
Luke chuckled. âThe point of a break was for you to travel more. Chairman, it wasnât easy for me to give you almost a year of rest. You didnât cherish it.â
Hearing that, Jenny perked up and sat up. âIs there a new project? Did you develop it yourself? In what area?â
Luke was speechless for a moment. After she asked seven or eight questions, he exerted force and successfully shut the chairman up for the time being.
Looking at her expectant eyes, Luke got up and carried her to the bedroom.
Stumped for a moment, Jenny gritted her teeth. âB*stard, Iâll go all out tonight. Treat it as compensation.â
Then, she was brought into the bedroom with a resigned expression.
Two minutes later, she wore an irate expression as Luke pulled her over. âB*stard, you did that on purpose, didnât you?â
Blinking in confusion, Luke put on an innocent but extremely annoying expression. âWeâre getting down to proper business, Miss Gwenis! You werenât even wearing pants just now. Arenât you afraid of catching a cold?â
Jenny gnashed her teeth. âYou couldâve just told me to change. You dragged me in here without saying anything. Wasnât that clearly asking for compensation?â
Luke shook his head quickly. âNo, no, no. It was the chairman of the board who provided me with good service the whole afternoon, so I should be the one paying you.â
Jenny: ââŠMr. Major Shareholder, have you forgotten that Iâve always been your personal secretary?â
Luke couldnât help but laugh. âIâm sorry. As an apology, Iâll prepare a project big enough for you to work on until the end of time.â
Jenny said, âHmph, weâll see.â
As they chatted, they went down the elevator to a separate underground garage and got into Lukeâs car before they left the building.
After they left, the SUV drove for a few minutes toward the less populated outskirts of Nassau County before it reached the seaside.
Luke took out the protective energy suit which the Guardians used. He put it on and activated it, before he plunged into the ocean with Jenny in his arms.
A few minutes later, a small gray spaceship rose up in the distance and headed straight for outer space.
On the spaceship, Jenny, who was in the passenger seat, couldnât help but guess again. âYouâre not taking me to see the moon base, are you? Hm, wait, that place isnât a secret to world governments anymore. Is it Mars? Or a space research station?â
Suddenly, she recalled something. âWait, how long will we be out for? I havenât told Angel my whereabouts yet.â
Luke chuckled. âWhen I arrived early on, I helped you give her time off. She might be on vacation in a distant place right now.â
Actually, this time off from Jenny was verified news that had been passed through the Bat Squad; otherwise, Angel would have had to personally confirm it with Jenny.
Like the chairman of the board, Angel would also be going to the lawless planet.
Jenny had also been sent there during the battle with Thanosâs fleet.
It was just that Luke had used the Monolith to send her back to Earth that same day.
Firstly, she had been worried about the safety of Luke and her family, and secondly, she couldnât let go of company affairs, so she wasnât in the mood to survey the businesses on the lawless planet.
On Earth, she was probably the only person with outstanding business administrative skills whom Luke could trust.
Still, her work on Earth was no longer challenging.
The chairmanâs listless expression today wasnât because she had been inactive for a year, but because she no longer felt a sense of expectation.
Back then, she had willingly given up a stable position as the supervisor of a gold mine earning millions in revenue and had forked out her own money to build the phone company with Luke.
For this once overbearing CEO, current chairman, and perennial personal secretary, Luke could only give her the vast universe to carry out whatever grand galactic plan she wanted.
And so, this was new work with no retirement age in sight.
