"I am not doing this because I want to bring him back."
"W-What"
Vexarion's expression changed, and Sharnoth's crimson eyes shined even more intenselyāalmost horrifyingly intensely.
"I am doing this because it's fun~"
She spoke as her grin widened even further.
And Vexarionā¦
He⦠he couldn't say anything.
For a long moment, there was silence.
The words hung in the air like poison.
Vexarion stared at herāno, at itāand finally understood what stood before him.
This wasn't madness.
No, no, no, noā
It was something far, far worse.
Something beyond⦠reason.
The womanāor whoever it was in front of himāwasn't angry.
She wasn't grieving.
She was simply⦠amused.
Her smile never faltered, her crimson eyes never blinked.
She looked at him the way a child might look at a toy that refused to break.
And in that instant, Vexarion realized something terrifyingāthere was nothing he could say that would change anything.
He could threaten, plead, curse, or reasonāit didn't matter.
Because she wasn't listening.
She didn't even live in the same kind of mind as he did.
Her logic was chaos.
Her emotions were twisted.
And her pleasure?
That came from his pain.
She couldn't be negotiated with.
She couldn't be fooled.
She couldn't even be⦠understood.
And that truth⦠broke him more than her attacks ever did.
His chest heaved as he stared at her beautiful and, at the same time, monstrous face.
"W-What are you?"
He whispered, his voice trembling in terror.
"What am I?"
She repeated softly.
Then, her grin distorted her face.
"I'm Chaos."
Her voice was calm nowāsoft, almost delicate.
"Chaos that is going to rip you apart, piece by piece, slowly, agonizingly⦠endlessly, and once you break, unable to take it allā
I will join you back together nice and tidy and repeat it all over again."
He flinched at her tone because now, he could see it.
This wasn't a threat.
It was worseāit was truth.
She⦠she actually planned on doing that.
"Y-You're insaneā¦"
He breathed.
"Maybe."
She took a slow step toward him, her bare feet echoing softly on the endless grey.
"Or maybe I'm the only one who remembers how to enjoy⦠eternity."
Vexarion felt his heart squeezing at those words. For the first time in his long existence, he felt⦠small.
He felt like⦠a mortal.
Fragile.
Helpless.
Disposable.
He wanted to scream, but no sound came.
He wanted to fight, but his limbs wouldn't move.
He wanted to understand, but his mind refused.
How do you reason with a storm?
How do you plead with fire?
How do you beg⦠Chaos to stop being Chaos?
You don't.
You can't.
And he couldn't.
His white eyes dimmed as the realization sank in.
He had spent eons believing in his Might, a firm belief that no matter what he did, he could not fall simply because he never did.
He had the Supreme World of Light behind himāhe was⦠untouchable.
Even if he made a mistake, Light could fix anything.
But this⦠this thing before him wasn't something that could be purified.
She was beyond salvation.
She was beyond⦠comprehension.
And when Sharnoth saw that look in his eyes, a pure, joyous, melodious laugh escaped her lips.
"You finally get it, don't you?"
She asked, her gentle voice echoing with delight.
"That's good. I was starting to get bored with all the pleading and begging~"
The woman clapped.
And Vexarionā¦
"Pleaseā¦"
He pleaded.
His mind had already given in. The once prideful Progenitor had fallen; his pride, his achievements, even his lifeānone of it mattered. He just wanted⦠this to end.
"I can't⦠I can't anymoreā¦"
Hearing those words, Sharnoth moved her face towards him, only stopping a few inches away from his. Her crimson eyes glowed brightly as she stared at him. Then, her grin softened, almost as if she was⦠pitying him.
"Trust me, you can."
She whispered softly, brushing his cheek with her fingertip.
"And you will."
Then she stood straight, stretching her arms to the sides.
The air around her trembled.
Purple-black ripples spread from her body, twisting the space around her again.
"No⦠pleaseā¦"
Vexarion whispered again, his hands trembling. Mind you, his body was completely fine; if he wanted, he could very well move and prepare to dodge, but his mind was in no condition to follow through.
It had collapsed to a state that even though he had a perfectly able body, he⦠he couldn't move.
He could only beg.
But Sharnothā
She wasn't listening.
She was already picturing what she was going to do next, and once the picture in her mind was complete, her smile widened in satisfaction.
And then, the Chaos came.
FWOOOM
Purple-black tendrils erupted from the ground, from the air, from the empty space between them. Each one pulsed with suppressing, suffocating energy.
Vexarion's body moved on its own as he raised his arms to defend himself, but with the state his mind was inā
Slow.
He was too slow.
CRACK
One tendril wrapped around his arm, snapping the bones instantly. Another coiled around his neck, squeezingānot enough to killājust enough to make him feel it.
"AGGHHHHHHHH!!!"
He screamed, his voice echoing through the endless land.
Sharnoth smiled, watching him twist and writhe in agony. Her hands moved slowly through the air, controlling every tendril dramatically, acting like a conductor leading an orchestra.
"Beautiful,"
She murmured, her crimson eyes shining with amusement and playfulness.
"Every sound⦠every spark⦠every screamā¦"
She spoke, listening to everything like a professional musician would.
"STOP! PLEASEā!!"
Vexarion's voice cracked, tears spilling from his eyes.
But Sharnoth did not stop.
She tilted her head, her grin returning to that haunting stillness.
"This is what Light was always meant for,"
She said softly.
"To burn."
FWWOOOSSH
The tendrils ignited, turning into whips of black flame.
"AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
They tore through Vexarion's body, peeling his flesh apart layer by layer, his light spilling into the air.
Once again, his mind was overwhelmed with pain, and once againāhis mind gave up andā
As always, the world went quiet.
The next moment, Vexarion's body fell limp, still burning, his halo flickering faintly before falling on the ground and breaking into pieces.
Yes.
He was dead, again.
And Sharnothāshe exhaled slowly, almost peacefully. Her performance was complete.
She bowed to the non-existent audience in front of her, then, she tilted her headā
"What? What was it?
Once again?"
She 'listened' to one of the audience member's requests andā
"Sure.
Your wish is my command."
She stood straight and began moving her hands dramatically, preparing for another performance.
"Let's begin."
And with that single sentence, the shadows began to move once more, circling the remains of Vexarion's body.
And as they condensed above at a single point, once again, the rebuilding began andā¦
The cycle began again.
"Stop⦠please⦠stop thisā¦"
Vexarion, who reappeared again, begged helplessly. This time, he wasn't even surprised by his revival; he⦠he just wanted this torture to end.
"Come on~
Why are you acting like a broken toy!?
FIGHT!!!
PLAYY!!!!"
Sharnoth shouted. The broken light man was not fun; she wanted to see at least some sort of resistance that she could enjoy breaking.
"Stop⦠please⦠stop thisā¦"
But Vexarionā
He was like a broken record.
To him, all of this was just a repeating nightmareāa nightmare he could not escape from. At this point, his mind was broken to the point where it all felt⦠unreal to him.
Yes, his mind had begun escaping reality to avoid total collapse, and Sharnoth, who noticed itā
"How do you break the broken toy"
She began thinking.
And thenā
"By letting the toy recover."
"Hmm?"
Sharnoth tilted her head at the foreign voice. Then, her crimson eyes brightened as she recognized the voice andā
"NUX!!"
She dashed in the direction the voice came from, not even looking where Nux actually was since she knew he would catch her.
And just as she expectedā
The next moment, she was in Nux's arms.
"Having fun?"
Nux questioned as he patted her back.
"No! It isn't working like it did before!"
The Chaos Heir complained.
The 'it' in her complaint being Vexarion, the Progenitor of the High-Level World.
Nux stared at the man kowtowing in front of him.
Yes, kowtowing.
The man who didn't move even when he was being burned to death had now moved to kowtowānot because his body had recovered but because he saw⦠hope.
Anyone.
Anyone that was not the monster he was facingāhe felt he could convince.
"Pleaseā¦
Please kill me, I beg youā¦"
He begged, rubbing his forehead on the ground, abandoning all his pride.
And when Nux saw that sight, he raised his eyebrow in surpriseā
"You broke it."
He commented.
"How many times did you repair it?"
He asked as he turned toward her. He had already devoured Vexarion, so just like his wives and subordinates, Vexarion could not die.
And the authority over his lifeāhe had passed it to Sharnoth.
At his question, Sharnoth started thinkingā¦
"I don't knowā¦"
She muttered.
"Maybe a hundred, two hundred times
But it should be more durable! It was fine when I repaired it!"
The Chaos Heir complained, and Nux began thinking as wellā
"Hmmmm.
What could have possibly happened to it then"
And Vexarion, who heard their conversationāfelt his world collapse.
T-These peopleā¦
He was kowtowing in front of them, and theyā¦
T-T-They weren't even acknowledging his existence!
