Interrogator Zebos was not the only person that was stunned by Simonās performance.
Even Lilith was stunned and taken aback by his performance. Her mouth was wide open, and she could not help but mutter silently.
"Unholy Primordial Mother of Daemons, what sort of acting is this?"
Lilith also knew of Simonās character, and she never expected Simon to act in such a manner, and to be so convincing at that.
He even shed genuine and believable crocodile tears!
However, despite Simonās performance, it did not draw the sympathy of Zebos.
Demons were not for being sympathetic, and Simon knew this.
Very few demons would have a heart that could show a fraction of sympathy or be sympathetic towards Simon because of his words and tears.
And the only time demons were sympathetic toward one another was if they were family or the closest of friends.
However... Simon could definitely argue with that belief.
Demons were not humans who would show sympathy and be more considerate toward Simon since his acting, tears, and words were all true.
Who wouldnāt?
But for Zebos?
It just made him to feel that Simon was truly a child and not an anomaly like how the records stated.
āHe must not have been born like this. He was made into this because of Pellin and the clan. His coldness and ruthlessness were because of everything that happened to him, and he must have been bottling up his emotions and desire for revenge against Pellin.ā
āHeās just a traumatized child trying to put up a brave front.ā
Zebos softly shook his head as he stared at Simon who was still wiping away the tears from his face.
āAnd he could be acting. But I doubt. A child should not be able to act like this... Itās too flawless.ā
Zebos narrowed his eyes slightly as he carefully observed Simon.
Some seconds later, Simon wiped away all the tears from his eyes and sniffed.
"Sorry about that. I was just so emotional."
Zebos nodded slightly. "Itās understandable."
He paused for a moment, then he continued his questioning.
"So, to get things straight. You did not kill Pellin?"
Simon shook his head with a bitter smile. "Interrogator Zebos, I did not. If you donāt believe me, itās fine and understandable. Itās your job, I understand."
"But letās be reasonable too. How could I have killed him on my first day in the clan? I was a Lesser Demon and he was a Prime Archfiend. I also have a Supreme Common Bloodline, thereās no way I can kill an Archfiend. It just doesnāt make sense."
Simon shook his head.
"Besides, I wasnāt able to purchase his location and where he lived from the Intelligence Office, how could I have found out where he lived on my first day in the clan?"
Zebos frowned because Simon had just nailed the problem and the biggest question he, his colleagues, and his superiors had.
How could Simon who was a Lesser Demon kill a Prime Archfiend?
Simon had battle talent. They know that, but it was a far stretch for him to be able to kill an Archfiend as a Lesser Demon, especially when he only had a Supreme Common Bloodline.
And another thing that baffled them was that even if Simon was able to kill Pellin, how could he have done it without anybody knowing?
How could he have killed Pellinās wife and son without anybody knowing?
How could he have killed Thorgan without anybody knowing?
All of these questions were what made Simon a person of interest and not a prime suspect.
āThe Inquisitors have already tortured and done all they could to that dog demon called Turo, but he denies killing Pellin. All evidence points to him and thereās also enough reason for Tuto to kill Pellin, but he denies it and says he never killed the pig.ā
āWhat sort of a case is this?ā
Zebos had the urge to sigh, but he didnāt. He had to keep his calm to see if he could find something amiss in Simonās words.
"I know about the Devourerās Blood Essence. The Grave Lords already gave me the records about it."
Simonās eyes flashed with visible surprise which did not escape the gaze of Zebos.
āThey were willing to expose that? I didnāt expect that. I thought the matter of the Devourerās Blood Essence was an extremely sensitive topic for them. Does Thorganās death really affects them that much?ā
āOr could it be Pellinās backer? Could one of the Grave Lords be Pellinās backer? Or could it be another high ranking member of the clan that is able to know about the Devourerās Blood Essence?ā
āThis has become more complicated than I expected.ā
Simon did not spend up to three seconds having these thoughts, and Zebos spoke.
"You seemed surprised when I spoke about the Devourerās blood essence."
Simon was ātaken abackā and seemed to be even more surprised that Zebos noticed this tiny detail.
Of course, this was an act, and he had deliberately allowed Zebos to see a tinge of surprise on his face when he spoke about the Devourerās blood essence.
It would be even more strange if he did not react to it.
"I believed that the matter of the Devourerās blood essence was a sensitive topic for the Grave Lords. Iām surprised that they were willing to expose details about it to you because of this case."
Zebos leaned back into his chair and chuckled softly.
"Well, the case is more complicated than you might think. Though, I was not given all the details about what happened, but I know enough."
Simon nodded, then he asked with a calm expression.
"And Iām guessing what you want to know is how I was able to advance my heart rank so quickly in just three days even though I only have a Supreme Common Bloodline."
"Exactly." Zebos said with a slight frown. "No cultivation resources were given to you, so tell me, how did you advance your heart rank so quickly?"
"Let me guess, you killed Pellin, his wife, his child, and Thorgan. Then you devoured them to increase your heart rank, didnāt you?"
"You actually have the Devourerās blood essence and you also killed all four of our clan members. Am I not right?"
