Chapter 75: Chapter 75: My Wife
What Vera Xavier needed to do now was study her politics textbook. Her schedule was incredibly tight. She had already reviewed several subjects, but she still had a lot left to cover for politics. âEven if it means just skimming, I have to get through the whole thing tonight!â
She ended up studying until three in the morning and almost couldnât get out of bed. Because she had gone to sleep so late, she didnât look very well-rested today.
Rona Langdon wasnât about to make her breakfast, and Cara Preston had already gotten up early and left for school, not even bothering to put on an act for her today.
Vera Xavier yawned as she ate a bowl of beef noodles with an added egg at a roadside breakfast stall. Only after refueling her energy did she head to school.
There were still some topics in the three subjects being tested today that she hadnât managed to review, so she was a little slower on the exam. When Cara Preston noticed she didnât turn in her paper early like she had the day before, she assumed Vera had taken her advice and was deliberately finishing later.
This thought made Cara Preston feel even more contemptuous of Vera Xavier. âAnd here I thought sheâd actually made some progress lately. Turns out, sheâs nothing special after all.â
After the exam, it was Sunday. Cara Preston went out to have fun with her friends again, while Vera Xavier, who was dead tired, planned to go straight home and crash.
But while the dream was nice, reality had other plans. As she was leaving the school gates, she heard someone call her name. She turned her head and saw a tall, thin young man.
At first glance, she didnât recognize him and prepared to walk around him. To her surprise, he stepped directly in front of her, blocking her path. "Vera Xavier, didnât you hear me calling you?"
Vera Xavier looked up at the man. "Excuse me, who are you? Have we met before?"
The manâs face instantly twisted, his expression becoming downright bizarre. Her words seemed to have caught him so off guard that he was momentarily speechless.
Vera Xavier shot him a look like he was a lunatic and decided to keep her distance. But he suddenly grabbed her hand. "Vera Xavier, stop pretending!"
Vera Xavierâs gaze instantly turned icy. Staring at the hand gripping hers, she said coldly, "Let go!"
Instead of letting go, the man started dragging her toward a nearby side path. Vera Xavier completely lost it and slapped him across the face. "If you donât let go right now, Iâm calling the police!"
The man clearly hadnât expected her to strike him. He stared in utter disbelief. "Vera Xavier, you dare hit me!"
Vera Xavier sneered. "Youâre just a thug. So what if I hit you?"
The man was trembling with rage. He finally managed to say, "Vera Xavier, Iâm Wesley Kane!"
This time, it was Vera Xavierâs turn to be stunned. Staring at the manâwho looked much younger than she remembered from her past life, yet also strangely unfamiliarâshe finally recalled something.
In her previous life, there were rumors that the Best Actor award-winner, Wesley Kane, had gotten plastic surgery. She had always been skeptical about the matter. Now, seeing the not-yet-famous Wesley Kane, she was finally certain those rumors were true, because his current appearance was a far cry from how he looked in her past life.
Furthermore, after Nathaniel Nathan had swept her away from her own wedding in her previous life, she hadnât seen Wesley Kane for several years. By the time they met again, his appearance had already changed, so much so that she had now completely forgotten what he used to look like...
The current Wesley Kaneâs features were actually quite striking among men, but his overall aura was somewhat effeminate. His nose wasnât particularly prominent, and his narrow eyes had monolids. Compared to the man he would become in her previous life, he was lacking by more than just a little.
Vera Xavier gave a hollow laugh. "Oh. So, did you need something from me?"
