Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Life Goal
Vera Xavier hated the look in Cara Prestonās eyes. She shifted, using her own body to block Caraās line of sight. "Momās finished making dinner. Letās go back and eat!"
Cara Preston was terribly disappointed that she could no longer see Nathaniel Nathanās back, but she couldnāt afford to be too obvious about it. Biting her lip lightly, she looked at Vera Xavier and asked, "Nathan seems to be paying a lot of attention to you, sis."
Zachary Preston explained from the side, "You came back late, so you might not know. Your sister saved Master Nathan, so sheās now a benefactor of the Nathan Family. Itās perfectly normal for Nathaniel to pay a little more attention to her."
Cara Preston asked in utter astonishment, "When did sis save Master Nathan? How come Iāve never heard you mention it before?"
Vera Xavier replied, "Master Nathan had his attack on the very day I returned home, so there was no chance to tell you."
Cara Preston opened her mouth but found she couldnāt utter a single word. Vera Xavier smiled and said, "Donāt just stand there in a daze. Letās eat!"
Cara Preston felt as if a rock had settled in her heart, an unbearable weight. Yet, she couldnāt say anything more and had to force a smile.
āSeeing Cara Preston act like this, Vera Xavier was filled with utter contempt. Nathaniel Nathan had absolutely no interest in Cara right now, yet she was already setting her sights on him. Truly shameless.ā
Zachary Preston saw how Cara Preston was acting and sighed to himself.
Although Rona Langdon was in a bad mood today, she was also completely distracted while cooking. As a result, one dish was salty enough to kill you, another had no salt at all, and the shredded pork was tough and overcooked. To say the meal was "bad" would be an understatement.
Zachary Preston frowned. "Rona, what on earth did you cook?!"
Rona Langdon was in a foul mood and shot back, "If you have a problem with it, cook it yourself!"
Anger flared in Zachary Prestonās eyes. Vera Xavier quickly placed some food in his bowl. "Dad, this dish Mom made is delicious."
Zachary Preston glanced at her and heaved a long sigh, understanding her intention. He swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue. He really didnāt want to argue with Rona Langdon over something so trivial. If they kept fighting, their home would truly never know a momentās peace.
āVera Xavierās heart ached for Zachary Preston for a full ten seconds. Once she took care of her own urgent matters, she would have to seriously consider how to get rid of Rona Langdon for his sake, to save him from a future prison sentence. After all, this kind man genuinely doted on her as if she were his own daughter.ā
That night, as Vera Xavier was studying, she heard footsteps outside her door. She stared at the wall and her vision passed right through it, revealing Cara Preston tiptoeing downstairs. Vera didnāt even have to guess; she knew Cara was going to see Rona Langdon.
Vera Xavier twirled the ballpoint pen in her hand, her eyes narrowing slightly. A cool smile touched her lips. āLooks like Cara Preston is about to stir up some trouble again.ā
āVera Xavier thought that Cara Preston was unbelievable. Sheād done so terribly on the recent exam, yet instead of focusing on her studies, her mind was still wandering to other schemes. Vera finally understood why the Cara from her past life, who had decent grades initially, ended up bombing her high school exams so badly that she only managed to get into a vocational college.ā
āVera Xavier had little interest in Cara Prestonās schemes. It was always the same old bag of tricks.ā
āBut she had her own goal. She was going to get into Veridia University!ā
āBesides being Nathaniel Nathanās alma mater, Veridia University held a special, fateful opportunity for her. She had to go there to find the person who helped her the most in her previous life. Without his help back then, her fate in that life would have been even more miserable.ā
