Chapter 132: Chapter 132: For Your Own Good
Cara Preston hadnāt expected Vera Xavier to contradict her so directly. She finally remembered that Vera was different now; she was no longer the same girl Cara could lead around by the nose.
She hurriedly said, "I donāt look down on people from the countryside, itās just that some of your habits really arenāt great..."
"Whatās wrong with my habits?" Vera Xavier asked point-blank.
When it came to lifestyle habits, Vera Xavier had never thought she had any problems. She was clean, tidy, and had excellent habits.
Cara Preston hadnāt expected the question. She racked her brain but couldnāt think of a single bad habit of Veraās. In the past, whenever Vera had a spare moment, she would be sweeping the courtyard, wiping the windowsills, or washing the entire familyās clothes.
She hemmed and hawed for a long time before finally saying, "You donāt know how to use a gas stove, and you always use a ton of oil when you cook. Itās unhealthy."
Hearing this, Master Nathan was even more certain that Cara Preston was just picking a fight to make Vera look bad. He said coolly, "Thatās hardly an issue. Iām not asking Vera to be my housekeeper. We have someone to do the cooking at home, so thereās no need for Vera to lift a finger."
He then looked at Vera and said, "So, Vera? Have you made up your mind?"
Cara Preston was about to interrupt, but Vera had already smiled and said, "Since youāve put it that way, Mr. Nathan, it would be wrong of me to refuse. Besides, itās so nice of you not to mind all my so-called bad habits."

"Those arenāt bad habits at all." The moment Master Nathan heard sheād agreed to stay with the Nathan Family for a while, his face lit up with joy. He chuckled, "Iāve always thought of you as my granddaughter-in-law. The women of the Nathan Family donāt need to do menial chores."
Cara Prestonās face went pale with fury when she heard that. She wanted to throw a tantrum but didnāt dare do it in front of Master Nathan. All she could do was shoot Vera a vicious glare, which Vera deliberately ignored.
And so, the matter was settled. After a brief discussion, they decided that Vera would pack her things and move into the Nathan Familyās home that weekend.
With the matter settled, Master Nathan couldnāt have been in a better mood. It was now dinnertime. When Zachary Preston offered to cook, Vera wouldnāt hear of it, heading into the kitchen herself and telling him to stay and chat with Master Nathan.
After Vera entered the kitchen, Cara followed her in. She made a show of helping out, but in reality, she sidled up to Vera with a grim expression. "Sister, how could you agree to Master Nathanās offer? Heās in poor health. If some accident were to happen while youāre taking care of him, how could you possibly take responsibility for that!"
The moment Vera heard her, she knew Cara hadnāt given up. She said coolly, "Thatās my business."
In other words: Mind your own damn business!
Cara Preston looked at her, stunned. "Sister, why have you become like this? Iām only doing this for your own good!"
Vera smiled. "Itās not entirely for my own good, is it? Otherwise, why were you trying to go to the Nathan Familyās home earlier?"
Cara only faltered for a second before retorting, "Thatās because Iām worried youāll cause trouble! Look at all the disasters youāve caused since you came back. If you stir up anything else, Iām afraid Mom will really disown you!"
Vera didnāt say anything. Cara, thinking she was wavering, pressed on, "But itās different if I go to the Nathan Familyās home. Even if something were to happen to Master Nathan, I could still come home. I have an escape route. So, Sister, Iām truly looking out for you!"
