Thanks to Cara Prestonâs efforts, she had spent the day making a huge fuss, smearing Vera Xavier all over campus. Combined with the buzz from Vera ranking first in the entire school, the story of the back alley incident had spread with such vivid detail that it sounded like gospel. All the evidence seemed to point to Vera.
The schoolâs top student and the "star" of the back alley incidentâthe contrast and shock value were simply immense!
But now, Jack Juddâs words had just swapped out the leading lady!
The students crowded around the school gate to watch the spectacle, completely stunned once again. Their eyes gleamed with excitement. This gossip was explosive, and there was a plot twist! It was even better than the new dramas coming out of Hong Kong!
Vera Xavier walked toward Cara Preston. "Cara, this time itâs not that I wonât help you keep it a secret. Itâs just that it canât be hidden anymore."
She had actually learned this way of speaking from Cara Preston. When dealing with Cara, giving her a taste of her own medicine was definitely the best approach.
Cara Prestonâs face turned beet red as she argued loudly, "Itâs not like that, itâs not! I went home really early that day! You were the one who came home late! My mom and the security guard at the residential compound can both vouch for me!"
After she finished shouting, she saw the onlookersâ faces were all filled with disdain. Between her and Jack Judd, who was still holding her hand, it was obvious at a glance who was more believable.
She looked over at Vera Xavier, whose face was filled with contempt.
A sudden realization struck her, and her face went deathly pale.
The students all around were murmuring among themselves, their gossip covering all sorts of speculation.
A cold light glinted in Vera Xavierâs eyes. Today, she was going to let Cara Preston dig her own grave. It was the only way to satisfy the rage in her heart.
Jack Judd took the hint, smiling as he pulled on Cara Prestonâs hand. "Babe, letâs get going!"
Cara Preston struggled with all her might. Just then, she spotted Elise Langdon walking out of the school gate. "Elise, quick, help me call the police! Iâm being harassed by a hooligan!"
The moment Elise Langdon took in the scene, she ran to a public payphone on the side of the road and called the police without a second thought. There was a station right nearby, so officers arrived in no time.
Cara Preston wasnât about to let Vera Xavier off the hook, so she insisted on dragging her into the police station with them.
Cara Prestonâs greatest skill was playing the innocent, pitiful damsel in distress. The moment she stepped into the police station, she burst into a torrent of tears, looking utterly wronged and helpless as she leveled all kinds of accusations and slander against Vera Xavier and Jack Judd.
Jack Judd grew irritated by her crying and couldnât hold back. "The way youâre carrying on, youâd think I actually raped you. How about this? Iâll just screw you first, then we can talk!"
The station chief reached out and smacked him on the head. "You still canât behave yourself even in here, you punk? How about we lock you up for fifteen days to start?"
Jack Judd had been running with the street crowd for years and was a regular at places like this. Several officers at this particular station knew him, but none of them knew what to do with him. The guy was completely shameless. He never committed any major crimes but was constantly getting into minor trouble, and since his family had a bit of a background, there was nothing they could really do.
Jack Judd snickered and pointed at Cara Preston. "Hey, youâre showing favoritism! That broad has been wailing her head off ever since she walked in. What do you call that again? Oh, rightâobstructing justice! You want to lock me up for just scaring her a little, so by that logic, shouldnât she get eight or ten years in prison?"
"Cut the crap!" the chief snapped, glaring at him. "What is it this time?"
Cara Preston, who had been crying with great dedication this whole time, immediately wailed, "Officer, you have to get justice for me this time!"
