Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Give Myself to You
After all, ever since Zachary Prestonâs collapse, only Cara Preston had come to snoop into his condition. The moment she learned it was indeed a cerebral hemorrhage, she turned and left immediately.
Zachary Preston looked at her and said, "The medical... fees... go home and get them from your mother. Thereâs... still... money... at home."
Vera Xavier nodded and said gently, "Dad, donât worry about the medical fees. Just focus on getting better."
Zachary Preston let out a soft sigh. âHow could he not be aware of Rona Langdonâs true character?â But he still felt that after more than twenty years of marriage, there had to be some affection between them. She couldnât possibly abandon him.
After leaving the hospital room, Vera Xavier took a deep breath. She decided to go home. Regardless, some matters had to be settled. The masks of certain people needed to be torn off for all to see.
If Zachary Preston couldnât make the decision, she would make it for him. In any case, she would not let the events of her past life repeat themselves!
Nathaniel Nathan was just outside the room. When she saw him, she whined playfully, "Heeey, Nathaniel, can I borrow some money?"
Nathaniel Nathan reached out and tapped her on the forehead. "Have you forgotten how to speak properly?"
The tap was a little hard. She covered her forehead, giving him a wounded look. His brow furrowed and he said coolly, "Donât use the word âborrowâ in front of me. Whatâs mine is yours."
Vera Xavier chuckled. "So whatâs yours is mine, and whatâs mine is... still mine?"
Nathaniel Nathan looked at her face. It was etched with the exhaustion of the past few days, yet it broke into a wide smile upon seeing him. His heart clenched inexplicably. He had always known she was much stronger and braver than the average girl, but he was also keenly aware of what Zachary Preston meant to her.
He was well aware of the Preston familyâs affairs, but due to his position, he couldnât interfere too much. More importantly, he knew she didnât want him to get involved.
The relaxed smile she was giving him was just a front. She knew he had to return to his unit for a mission soon and didnât want him to worry about her.
Yet he had never been good at expressing his inner emotions. So, even though he saw right through her, he still said coolly, "Sooner or later, Iâll make every part of you mine."
Vera Xavierâs face reddened in spite of herself. He handed her a bankbook. "If this isnât enough, go ask Grandpa for more. There was too much money in that last passbook, so I split it into ten separate accounts for you. The accounts are in my name, but I listed you as the agent on the bank forms. You can withdraw the money whenever you need."
Vera Xavier was taken aback. âHeâd already thought of and solved the very things I was worried about,â she realized. âHe looks so cold and his words can be so wicked, but heâs truly good to me. So incredibly thoughtful.â
She pursed her lips, about to thank him, but he cut her off. "No need for thanks. If youâre willing, I can give you all of me right now."
At first, Vera Xavier didnât quite grasp the hidden meaning behind his words. But when she looked up and saw the mischievous glint in his eyes, she instantly realized he had just teased her again, and so subtly.
She huffed. "Fine. Bring it on!"
Nathaniel Nathan had been prepared for all sorts of rejections from her, but he never expected such a brazen response. He ended up choking on his own spit and couldnât stop himself from letting out a few low coughs.
Vera Xavier took a step closer to him and said with a wicked grin, "Whoever backs down is a chicken!"
