Chapter 333: Chapter 333: She Wants to Earn Money
After Vera Xavier got Zachary Preston settled, she prepared to leave. She felt a venomous gaze on her, and when she turned her head, she saw Cara Preston standing right behind her. The moment Cara saw Vera looking, she immediately put on a fawning smile.
Vera Xavier felt she should say something to Cara Preston, just to make her "content" to stay with the Preston Family. She leaned in close to Caraās ear and whispered, "Donāt think for a second I donāt know what youāre up to, Cara Preston. Thereās something you should know. The tables have turned. From now on, if I want you to live, you live! If I want you to die, you die! If you donāt believe me, youāre welcome to try and find out."
Inwardly, Cara Preston bristled at her words, but she kept her expression docile. "Sister, I truly know I was wrong. Why canāt you just believe me?"
Vera Xavier smiled, reaching out to pat Caraās still-bruised cheek. "A dog canāt be taught not to eat shit."
Cara Prestonās expression stiffened, her docile mask nearly cracking. Vera Xavier arched an eyebrow. "I know youāre cursing me in your head right now, plotting how youāll turn the tables and grind me under your heel. So let me tell you a little fact: youāre not smart enough to compete with me. Iām going to keep you pinned under my heel for the rest of our lives. You will never, ever get a chance to make a comeback."
Without giving Cara Preston another glance, she turned to say goodbye to her grandparents, then slung a backpack on and walked out.
Cara Preston watched her leave, her hands clenched into tight fists, the venom in her eyes completely undisguised.
After leaving the compound, Vera Xavier couldnāt shake the feeling that someone was watching her. She glanced toward a street corner and saw Jeremy Kane standing there in the distance.
Her expression darkened. She knew that after the time she and Jack Judd had brutally beaten Wesley Kaneāturning him into half a eunuchāthe scum of the Kane Family had come to hate her to their very bones.
She knew a fair amount about the Kane Family from her past life, which meant she was also privy to some of their secrets.
She had been busy dealing with the Preston Familyās matters lately and had only made a few minor moves against the Kanes. Clearly, that wasnāt enough.
After all, the Kane Family had played no small part in the miserable fate Cara Preston had dealt her in her past life.
It would be impolite not to return the favor. She would soon be sending the Kane Family a grand gift.
Seeing her look over, Jeremy Kane smiled and asked, "Vera, where are you headed?"
Vera Xavier didnāt answer, asking instead, "Uncle Kane, what are you doing here? Is Wesley Kane feeling any better?"
The smile on Jeremy Kaneās face froze. "Wesley is doing great. I was just in the area visiting a friend. Iāve always thought it was a real shame you couldnāt become our daughter-in-law."
"Itās no shame at all." Vera Xavierās smile was saccharine. "If Wesley Kane hadnāt done something so shameless, how could Nathaniel Nathan have taken those pictures of him with a prostitute on South Street? Oh, and by the way, werenāt you dying to know who gave me those photos? Iāll tell you now. It was Nathaniel Nathan."
Jeremy Kane could no longer hold his smile; his expression turned grim. Vera Xavier continued, "Itās so good that I ran into you today, Uncle Kane. Could you please pass a message to Wesley Kane for me? Tell him to stop bothering me. Otherwise, Iām afraid his other ball might not be so safe either."
With that, she flashed Jeremy Kane a sugary sweet smile. "I have other things to do, so Iāll be going now. See you around, Uncle Kane!"
