Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Already Married
Vera Xavier said calmly, "Mr. Forrest, I admire your courage, but thereâs something I think you should know."
After she finished, she looked sweetly at Nathaniel Nathan and said, "He and I are already married."
Alistair Forrest didnât seem to take her words to heart at all. He just smiled and said, "I knew youâd say that. But so what? Even if youâre married, I can still steal you away. After all, you can get divorced, and after a divorce, you can get remarried. We Marinus folks are very open-minded about these things. Iâm willing to marry you no matter how many times youâve been married before!"
Vera Xavier: "..."
âSo he doesnât believe a word Iâm saying? Is he a clown sent here for comic relief?â
Nathaniel Nathan shot Alistair Forrest a cold glance. His entire demeanor was glacial, but he couldnât even be bothered to waste words on the man. He simply turned and left with Vera Xavier and Aaron Cheney.
After they had gone, Alistair Forrest asked his two bodyguards, "Donât you think Honey would make a perfect Young Mistress for me?"
"She is quite suitable," one bodyguard said. "But thatâs only if the Young Master can win her heart. After all, your current rival is incredibly formidable."
The other bodyguard added, "And more importantly, aside from money, the Young Master has nothing else to offer. But Ms. Xavier doesnât seem very interested in money!"
Alistair Forrest reached out and gave each bodyguard a sharp rap on the head. "Do you two want to get paid this month or not?"
The two bodyguards immediately chorused, "The Young Master is the most handsome man in the universe! The richest man in the world! The Young Master is dashing and debonair, suave and charming, gentle and considerateâthe dream lover of every woman alive!"
Alistair Forrest curled his lip. "Thatâs more like it."
The two bodyguards chimed in again, "And the Young Masterâs taste is the best in the universe! Ms. Xavier is beautiful, fair-skinned, and highly capable. She even knows stone gambling! She was born to bring prosperity to her husbandâa perfect match for the Young Master, made in heaven!"
Alistair Forrest rubbed his chin. "You two have good taste."
If Nathaniel Nathan had heard their conversation, he probably would have had one word for Alistair Forrest: "Idiot."
By now, Susan Caldwell had taken Skylar Crowe and Leo Wright to the hospital. After a doctor treated their wounds, they were told to stay for observation, as their injuries were not minor.
Susan Caldwellâs expression was dark the entire time. Skylar Croweâs constant wails of pain grated on her nerves, making her even more furious, until she finally stormed out of the hospital room.
Leo Wright saw her expression and grew worried, so he followed her out.
She was leaning against a window in the hospital corridor, gazing at the view outside.
The county town wasnât very large. The sky was now completely dark, and with few streetlights, the world outside was a sheet of pitch black.
Leo Wright noticed that Susan Caldwellâs hands were clenched into fists and trembling slightly.
He had always known she was fiercely proud and had never taken a loss lying down. But tonightâs humiliation had been immense. Even if she could bottle it up in front of others, she had clearly reached her breaking point.
Leo Wright walked slowly to her side and tried to console her. "Miss, itâs over now. Try not to dwell on it."
"Itâs not over at all! This is only the beginning!" Susan Caldwellâs voice was loud and agitated.
Leo Wright hadnât expected her to lose control like this and was momentarily stunned. Seeing his expression, Susan Caldwell gritted her teeth and spat, "You donât understand a thing!"
Ever since Susan Caldwell had learned Vera Xavierâs name, she hadnât been able to feel calm. She truly couldnât be sure if todayâs events had been a trap set for her by Vera herself.
