Vera Xavier had gotten to know Alistair Forrest and his usual antics, so when he leaned in, she dodged out of the way. Caught off guard, Alistair tumbled to the ground.

Vera Xavier nudged him lightly with her foot. "Alright, stop faking it. If you really fainted at the sight of blood, you would have passed out last night."

’The blood when Nathaniel Nathan shot those people was far more terrifying than this little nosebleed. He didn’t faint then, so who would believe him now!’

Lying on the ground with his eyes closed, Alistair Forrest said, "I don’t faint at the sight of other people’s blood. I faint at the sight of my own."

Vera Xavier: "..."

Nathaniel Nathan shot Alistair Forrest a disdainful look, then took Vera Xavier’s hand and started to leave.

Alistair Forrest sat up from the ground. "Hey, how can you two be so heartless!"

Neither of them paid him any mind.

He shouted again, "Whatever you say, I’m still your benefactor! You two just made thirty million off of me!"

Still, nobody paid him any mind.

Alistair Forrest had no choice but to scramble up from the floor. "You two heartless jerks, wait for me!" he yelled, wiping his nosebleed.

’Honestly, dealing with someone like Alistair Forrest was just too much,’ Vera thought. ’His ability to act like a complete rogue was simply appalling.’

Alistair Forrest, however, showed no self-awareness whatsoever. After wiping away his nosebleed, he acted as if nothing had happened and started chattering away beside Vera Xavier and Nathaniel Nathan again, relentlessly trying to persuade Vera to become the Forrest Group’s chief Jade consultant.

Vera Xavier considered herself a patient person, but his incessant pestering was getting on her last nerve. The problem was, he wasn’t malicious—he was always laughing and joking around, and she simply didn’t know what to do with him.

Nathaniel Nathan’s expression had already darkened the moment Alistair Forrest wedged himself between them, but the man himself remained completely oblivious.

The two bodyguards followed the trio from a distance, thinking to themselves that their young master was becoming more and more unrestrained.

Back at the hotel, Vera Xavier took a deep breath and said, "As for the position of chief Jade consultant for the Forrest Group, I’ll consider it. I’ll give you my answer tomorrow morning."

Alistair Forrest said quickly, "I’ll take that as a yes. Honey, you’re too good to me. You have no idea, this is a task my grandfather gave me. If I can’t complete it, he’ll break my legs."

Vera Xavier brought a hand to her forehead. Alistair Forrest blew her a kiss. "I just knew you couldn’t bear to see me get punished, so you’d help me. I’ve decided, from now on I’ll be completely loyal to you and never look at another woman again."

’Vera felt her own hands start to itch. She really wanted to beat him up! Were people from Marinus already this shameless in this era?’

Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Alistair Forrest laughed nervously. "I just remembered I have something to take care of. Honey, I’ll come find you again in a bit. Don’t forget to miss me!"

With that, he dashed back to his room and swiftly closed the door.

Vera Xavier: "..."

Nathaniel Nathan snorted. "Don’t see him again."

Vera Xavier nodded agreeably. "I won’t. I feel like seeing him even once shaves at least ten years off my life."

Only after getting her assurance did Nathaniel Nathan’s expression soften a little.

Back in their room, Nathaniel Nathan asked Vera, "The families of those who were injured—did you arrange for them to confront Susan Caldwell?"

’He’s a soldier,’ Vera thought. ’I can’t possibly admit to using such tactics, even though I was the one who sent those people.’
