Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Give Her Wings
Nathaniel Nathan felt that Vera Xavier was an incredibly fast learner. She knew exactly how to read his mind and understand his intentions. āIf this keeps up,ā he thought, āsheāll be soaring to the heavens!ā
āWell, if she really did want to soar to the heavens someday, he supposed heād just have to give her a pair of wings.ā
But he wasnāt about to let her know that. He put on a stern face and said, "Iāll let you have your way this once, but there will be no next time!"
Vera Xavier nodded hurriedly. Nathaniel Nathan pointed to his lips. "You missed when you kissed me just now. You were supposed to kiss me here."
Vera Xavier: "..."
After marrying Nathaniel Nathan, sheād discovered his mind was as deep as the ocean, and her own principles were a thing of the past.
Having settled the matter, the two of them had more or less reached a consensus on the general plan.
Although Nathaniel Nathan thoroughly disliked Alistair Forrest, he had fallen into the trap his wife had laid and had no choice but to accept it. Thus, he agreed to her proposal to become the chief Jade consultant for the Forrest Group.
The next morning, Vera Xavier went to see Alistair Forrest. The moment he saw her, he became incredibly excited. "Honey, did you miss me?"
Vera Xavier said coolly, "Young Master Forrest, if you genuinely want to hire me as the Forrest Groupās Jade consultant, Iād ask you to be more restrained with your words. This is the mainland, after all, not Marinus. And personally, I have no fondness for smooth-talkers."
Alistair Forrestās face immediately fell. "Donāt tell me you actually like men like Direwolf, who wear a cold expression all day and have no sense of romance?"
Vera Xavier nodded. "Thatās right. Heās exactly my type."
Alistair Forrest clutched his head in anguish. "Then Iām doomed! I could never be that cold and aloof in my entire life."
Vera looked completely exasperated. Alistair tried to persuade her again, "Being with such a cold person day in and day out must be dreadfully boring. How about this? If you ever feel bored, you can come find me anytime. I promise Iāll make your life vibrant and exciting."
Suddenly, Vera felt that working with him was a huge mistake. She turned to leave.
Alistair hurriedly called out to her, "Honey, donāt be in such a rush to leave! Letās sign the contract first."
He handed the contract to Vera. She shot him a glance, and he returned it with the brightest, sunniest smile imaginable.
Although Vera found his shamelessness infuriating, he wasnāt the kind of person you could truly hate.
She lowered her gaze to the contract. Having reviewed plenty of them in her past life, she could usually spot any issues after a single read-through.
The contract was, in essence, fair and reasonable. The terms were quite favorable and generous. Its restrictive clauses were all related to personal integrity, which wouldnāt be an issue for her. The only clause that gave her pause was the contractās duration: a whopping ten years.
After reading the contract, she said, "There are no major issues with the contract, and Iām sure an annual salary of ten million is the highest in the industry. However, I have a few points to raise."
"Go on," Alistair said, his smile vanishing. With a serious expression, he finally looked like the shrewd businessman he was.
Vera made a few marks on the contract with a pen. "First, I donāt need an annual salary of ten million. One million is enough."
āIn this day and age, an annual salary of a million was already extremely high. She just wanted to leverage the Forrest Groupās name, not truly serve as their Jade consultant, so a decent amount of money was sufficient. But it couldnāt be too low, either. That would make her seem worthless.ā
