Chapter 431: Chapter 431: Maniacal
Irene Jensen was a smart woman. The moment Susan Caldwell laid eyes on Nathaniel Nathan, Irene noticed something was amiss. From the looks of the current situation, it seemed Susan had developed a crush on someone she shouldnât have.
She shrugged. There was nothing she could do about something like this.
Jack Judd shouted after them, "What do you mean sheâs too classy to argue with me? She was the one who started cursing first! You call that classy? Are you insane?!"
Skylar Crowe was furious and called out softly, "Susan!"
Susan Caldwell shot her a cold glare and said in a low voice, "Havenât you embarrassed us enough for one day?"
Tears of indignation streamed down Skylar Croweâs face. "I was just trying to help you."
"Weâre clearly at a disadvantage today. In a situation like this, itâs obvious weâre no match for them, so just drop the argument," Susan Caldwell said icily. "Besides, whatâs the use of winning a war of words?"
âWhat she really wanted was Vera Xavierâs life!â
âOnly if Vera Xavier died would her identity remain a secret!â
âOnly if Vera Xavier died could she finally find an outlet for all the grievances sheâd suffered recently!â
âVera Xavier had better not come looking for her in Veridia, or she would make certain that Vera never returned!â
Skylar Crowe had no idea what was going through Susan Caldwellâs mind. Hearing Susanâs words, she thought Susan was concerned for her, so she said sullenly, "Iâll listen to you. Itâs just... that man is such a scumbag. Heâd better hope he doesnât fall into my hands next time!"
Overhearing their conversation, Irene Jensenâs gaze deepened. Her friendship with Susan Caldwell was partly due to family reasons. Normally, Susan handled matters appropriately, so their relationship was good, and Irene had never given much thought to what kind of person Susan truly was.
But after coming to Trellis this time, she discovered that Susan Caldwell wasnât quite what she had imagined. After Vera Xavierâs warning last time, she was prompted to think harder about Susanâs actions over the years, only to realize that Susan was far from the kind person she had believed her to be.
From their exchange just now, she could sense something was off. She had already realized that Susan Caldwell was using Skylar Crowe as a pawn, yet Skylar was completely oblivious, still happy about Susanâs supposed words of comfort.
Irene Jensen recalled that there seemed to have been similar situations when she was with Susan Caldwell before, but because her personality wasnât as impulsive as Skylar Croweâs, it had never been so obvious.
She shot Vera Xavier a meaningful glance and let out an almost inaudible sigh.
After Susan Caldwellâs group left, Alistair Forrest also took his people and departed. As he was leaving, he glared at Nathaniel Nathan and said, "Youâre completely insane."
"This is what you call insane?" Nathaniel Nathanâs tone was flat. "Youâre welcome to stay. I can show you what truly insane looks like."
Alistair Forrest scoffed, then turned his head to Vera Xavier and said, "Honey, Iâm leaving. Be sure to miss me!"
Vera Xavier, of course, didnât respond to him. He felt utterly crushed. He had originally just wanted to watch the drama unfold, but instead, heâd had their public displays of affection shoved in his face. The feeling was awful!
After they left, Vera Xavier shot Nathaniel Nathan a fierce glare. But he was in such a good mood, he didnât mind it in the slightest.
Jack Judd and Aaron Cheney were over there, waggling their eyebrows and making faces at each other. But they were too afraid of both Nathaniel Nathan and Vera Xavier to actually dare and tease the pair.
Vera Xavier reached up and pressed the bridge of her nose. âNathaniel Nathan is really too much!â
âBecause of what heâd said, she decided she wouldnât speak to him for three days!â
