Chapter 461: Chapter 461: Taken Away
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at him. "How you do it is your business. This whole thing was your idea; it has absolutely nothing to do with me."
Jack Judd was stunned again, completely unable to figure out what game he was playing.
Nathaniel Nathan was utterly contemptuous of his intelligence and added irritably, "How could a person of high moral standing like myself possibly think of such malicious schemes? As for you, even if youâre a thug with some style, youâre still fundamentally a thug."
Jack Judd understood immediately. He quickly said, "Yes, yes, of course. Iâm just a thug."
Nathaniel Nathan waved his hand, and Jack Judd immediately left, clutching Cara Prestonâs bag.
After Jack Judd left, Nathaniel Nathan sighed softly. âMy wife doesnât want anyone else meddling in her affairs. I have to be so secretive just to help her. My life is so hard.â
Cara Preston, walking toward the countryside, was on the verge of a breakdown. She had only been to the Xavier Familyâs home once, back when Zachary Preston went to get Vera Xavier, so she didnât really know the way. Having been robbed once before, she was terrified.
A car pulled up beside her. A kind-faced woman in her forties said, "Young lady, are you heading to the countryside? How about I give you a lift?"
Cara Prestonâs feet were already starting to ache from all the walking. She desperately wanted a ride, but she remained wary. "No, thank you."
The woman smiled. "No need to be shy. Itâs getting late, and itâs not safe for a young woman like you to be out on the road alone."
Cara Preston was still hesitating, but the woman had already gotten out of the car. She grabbed Cara and pulled her into the vehicle. Cara tried to struggle, but a cloth was pressed over her mouth and nose. She smelled a pungent, sweet scent, and then everything went black.
Jack Judd watched this unfold from a distance. He scratched his head and muttered to himself, "Arenât those the human traffickers from South Street? Well, this is perfect. I donât even have to lift a finger. Iâve got to tell Vera this good news right away."
After chatting with Zachary Preston, Vera Xavier drew on the memories from her past life to concoct a medicinal pill that aided recovery from a cerebral hemorrhage. She started by mixing the ground powders according to a specific ratio, then used honey and rice wine to bind the mixture and roll it into pills.
Once the pills were made, she gave some to Zachary Preston and set the rest out to dry before storing them in a bottle.
When her grandparents returned, they were curious about the pills drying in the courtyard. Vera Xavier simply said it was a formula she had found in Yulara that could help Zachary Prestonâs recovery.
Her grandparents just smiled faintly. Everyone knew that recovering from a cerebral hemorrhage was next to impossible. Most people who were paralyzed by one never stood up again.
In their eyes, it was simply a sign of Vera Xavierâs devotion. Besides, given Zachary Prestonâs current state, it didnât really matter what medicine he took.
She had just finished preparing the medicine when she received a call from Jack Judd. He briefly recounted the dayâs events, taking care not to mention Nathaniel Nathan, and only said that Cara Preston had been taken away by human traffickers.
Vera Xavier replied in a flat tone, "I see."
She hung up after saying that. She had been the one to leak information about Cara Prestonâs situation, so it was only natural that people would be watching her.
After all, the current Cara Preston could neither return to the Preston Family nor be considered a daughter of the Xavier Family. So, even if she disappeared, no one would bother to look for her.
A background like that was all it took for a host of people with ulterior motives to set their sights on Cara Preston.
