Chapter 466: Chapter 466: Mothers and Daughters
The lesson from five years ago was still fresh in Susan Caldwellâs mind. Combined with todayâs events, her hatred for Winter Sullivan had only intensified. âTo think she wouldnât take my word for it and even had me investigated!â
âIâve never met a woman as unfeminine as Winter Sullivan. After dealing with weapons for so long, sheâs become just like themâcold and hard.â
Her thoughts couldnât help but turn to Vera Xavier. âIt makes sense,â she mused, âthat only a woman as detestable as Winter Sullivan could give birth to a daughter as detestable as Vera.â
The moment she recalled what had happened in Trellis, she seethed with anger.
âTo think I suffered such a major setback at Vera Xavierâs hands. I will absolutely not let her get away with it.â
She remembered Rona Langdon saying that Vera Xavier was trying to get into Veridia University. âSheâd better pass,â Susan thought. Once Vera arrived in Veridia, Susan would have countless ways to make her life a living hell.
Just then, the phone in her room suddenly rang. She hesitated for a moment before picking it up. As soon as the call connected, she heard Rona Langdonâs voice: "Susan, youâre finally back! Iâve missed you so much!"
Susan Caldwell had never paid much attention to the Preston Familyâs affairs, and by the time Rona Langdon had a warrant out for her arrest, Susan had already left on vacation.
Rona Langdon had already called the Caldwell residence several times, but since Susan hadnât been the one to answer, she hadnât dared say muchâjust that sheâd dialed the wrong number before hanging up.
For Rona Langdon, hearing Susanâs voice was like music from the heavens!
Susan, however, felt a surge of irritation at the sound of her voice. Rona had already launched into a rambling tirade: "I was framed by that bitch, Vera Xavier! Now Iâve been kicked out of the Preston Family! Susan, Iâm your motherâyou have to help me!"
Susanâs patience was already wearing thin, but she was stunned to hear that Rona Langdon had been kicked out of the Preston Family. She had witnessed Vera Xavierâs methods firsthand, but she never imagined Vera could actually drive Rona out of the Preston household!
After all, Rona Langdon was trading on her status as Vera Xavierâs biological mother. âYou only ever hear about mothers kicking their daughters out, not the other way around!â
Susan immediately asked in a serious tone, "What happened?"
Rona Langdon immediately launched into a rough summary of what had happened. In her telling, of course, Vera Xavier was a cruel, vicious, and ungrateful monster, while she was the pitiful victim.
But Susan was no fool. That, combined with her knowledge of Rona Langdonâs personality, meant that as soon as Rona finished speaking, Susan understood exactly what had happened.
She inwardly cursed Rona Langdon for being a complete moron. âTo do something like that for such a small amount of money... With a character like hers, she wasnât driven out of the Preston Family by Vera Xavier. She clearly brought this on herself.â
After recounting her tale, Rona Langdon started cursing out Cara Preston, but Susan had no interest in any of it. She asked the one question that mattered to her: "Did Vera Xavier get into Veridia University?"
Rona Langdon cursed under her breath. "The college entrance exam scores werenât out yet when I left Crestfall. But I heard from a teacher that she was supposedly ranking first in the whole school on her recent practice exams, so I guess sheâll probably get in!"
The corners of Susanâs lips quirked up. "Iâm actually rather looking forward to Vera Xavier coming to Veridia."
Rona Langdon cleared her throat. "Susan, Iâm in Veridia right now. Iâm your birth mother; you canât just abandon me!"
