Chapter 481: Chapter 481: Sent Flying with a Slap (Part 1)
Archer the Butcher had planned everything perfectly, but he never expected Vera Xavier to show up and ruin it all.
At that moment, the middle-aged womanâs mind was fixated on her one thousand yuan. It was just within her grasp, but she never expected Vera Xavierâs sudden appearance to completely disrupt her plans!
She hadnât actually been trying to make the Xavier Family pay back the money; her real target was Chloe.
Whenever anything happened in the village, people would flock over to watch the drama. A crowd had already gathered at the Xavier familyâs gate.
The Xavier family had always been honest and upstanding, and they were well-liked and respected in the village. In contrast, the middle-aged woman and Archer the Butcher were considered local scum. The villagers were all pointing and whispering, saying the woman was a bully who was now refusing to accept the payment and trying to back out of the deal.
The middle-aged woman started spewing curses at the villagers. "Have you all got nothing better to do? This is between me and the Xavier Family! Itâs none of your damn business!"
One of the villagers couldnât take it anymore. "Youâre here to collect a debt. Theyâre offering you the money now, so why wonât you take it?"
"Itâs not that she wonât take it. I see it nowâher real goal is Chloe. With Archer the Butcherâs temper, always ready to start a fight, of course he canât find a wife. So now heâs set his sights on Chloe."
"Itâs a disgrace! How old is Chloe? For him to have designs on her... heâs a cradle robber!"
"Thank goodness Vera came back and paid the debt. Letâs see what else they can pull now!"
Vera Xavier looked at the middle-aged woman and said, "Maâam, come and sign this receipt."
The middle-aged woman looked extremely reluctant, but at this point, she had no choice but to sign the receipt.
After she signed, Vera Xavier took out two thousand yuan and handed it to her. But as the woman was taking the money, Vera suddenly struck, slapping her ten times across the face.
The middle-aged woman was stunned by the slaps. It took her a long moment to snap out of it before she shrieked, "You people owed me money, and you have the nerve to hit me!"
In truth, it wasnât just the middle-aged woman who was stunnedâthe Xavier family and the onlookers were all dazed as well. Mrs. Xavier couldnât help but pull on Vera, afraid the woman would retaliate. She even moved to shield Vera with her own body.
Veraâs heart warmed at her motherâs gesture. She gently pulled Mrs. Xavier behind her, offered her a reassuring smile, and then turned to the middle-aged woman. "You said before that a slap costs ten yuan. I just slapped you ten times, so thatâs one hundred yuan. Here!"
With that, she picked up a hundred-yuan bill and tossed it on the ground in front of the woman.
The middle-aged woman stood there, stunned. Vera continued, "Drew, Chloe, listen carefully. If this old hag ever comes to our house causing trouble again, saying awful things, or bullying Mom and Dad, you go right ahead and hit her. Iâll take full responsibility for whatever happens!"
Drew and Chloe had been forced to put up with the woman for a long time. Upon hearing Veraâs words, they roared in agreement and lunged forward aggressively, looking like they were about to hit her.
Seeing she was at a complete disadvantage, the middle-aged woman knew she wouldnât get anything more today. She pointed a finger at Vera and spat, "You just wait!"
"Fine. Iâll be waiting," Vera said, her tone flat. "By the way, I might as well inform you of something. In the city, I live in the government residential compound. I also happen to know a few people over at the Public Security Bureau. They were just saying how theyâre cracking down on local tyrantsâpeople who run roughshod over the countryside, preying on the weak while cowering before the strong. They said those people need to be dragged out and taught a harsh lesson."
The middle-aged womanâs face changed. She was known far and wide in the surrounding area as a vicious shrew, but her power was limited to the villages.
