Ophelia smiled brightly, clearly pleased.
"Youâre just in time to deal with that demi-human Divine Chosen. I never expected that even among corrupted creatures there would be someone as intelligent as you, someone who understands how to read the situation. Iâm truly gratified."
"The honor is mine."
A beautiful curve formed at the corner of Violetâs lips. Her long dress fluttered as she tilted her head slightly and asked, "Shall I go now?"
"Yes. Prioritize killing the soldiers. Do not entangle yourself too much with the enemyâs Divine Chosen. We have plenty of time to wear them down slowly. Once their soldiers are depleted, weâll use the corpse tide to exhaust the enemy Divine Chosen."
Ophelia wore the confident smile of a true dark overlord.
"I firmly believe this is the most correct decision."
"How impressive." Violet leaned back slightly. "Itâs an honor to fight for you."
"A wise choice. Take this."
A scroll was tossed out from the shadows.
"This is a third-tier defensive spell. Use it if you encounter danger." Ophelia was generous. "Fight for me, and I will not treat you poorly."
"Yes. I will certainly be loyal to you."
Violet clasped her fingers together before her chest. Tears shimmered in her eyes. After nodding firmly, she set off.
In the blink of an eye, Violet arrived at the lumber camp.
It was difficult to see corrupted corpses there. The ground was covered with a thick layer of bone ash that felt soft beneath oneâs feet.
A second-tier corrupted corpse followed behind several dozen ordinary corpses as they pushed past the obstacles set by the guards. Their mouths twisted into eager grins, as though they could already see endless flesh waiting to be devoured.
Then they were greeted by azure dragonfire.
The second-tier corpse that had still been running was recognized by Ashina and shot down with two arrows. The corpse crashed heavily to the ground, rolling seven or eight meters before finally stopping. The brutality in its eyes gradually faded away.
"Victory!"
The corrupted corpses attacking from the direction of the lumber camp were completely wiped out.
The exhausted guards erupted into thunderous cheers.
"Whew... defensive battles are really exhausting. After all, we canât let the corrupted corpses enter the territory. Luckily itâs over. I should go support Lord Phield."
Ashina wiped the sweat from her forehead. Even her wolf ears drooped tiredly. She was better suited for offense and guerrilla warfare. The endless waves of incoming corpses had forced her to constantly expend divine power, urging the black wolf to spew flames to destroy them.
"Demi-human... damn you."
Violetâs cold voice suddenly rang out.
Ashina reacted to the sound instantly and fired an arrow.
She frowned slightly. Although she had been prepared to encounter a powerful enemy, she was still unwilling to retreat lightly and let the territory suffer losses.
Violetâs body twisted and dissolved into a pool of foul blood, easily dodging the arrow. With several quick flashes of movement, she appeared directly in front of Ashina.
"Die!"
Violet shouted violently as the blood-red scythe in her hand slashed downward.
Clangâ
A flash of silver streaked through the air. Ashinaâs spear held firm, blocking Violetâs scythe.
"Itâs you?"
Ashina was stunned. She had previously heard the news of Violetâs betrayal, and encountering her now caught her completely off guard.
"Listen to me, demi-human. I have important information to tell you."
Violet maintained her fierce expression, but spoke in an extremely faint whisper.
"Your opponentâthe corrupted Divine Chosenâis named Ophelia. Sheâs hiding at the border between the Nightfall Domain and the Dawnfall Domain."
"Hm?"
Ashina was confused for three seconds. She could sense that Violet had no real intention of fighting. Her attacks were weak and lacking force.
"Also, that person seems to have a group of human subordinates. Quite interesting, really."
"Alright... but why are you helping us? And why are you being so secretive?" Ashina also responded instinctively in a low voice.
Violet showed no awareness whatsoever of being a corrupted creature and replied directly.
"Because Ophelia possesses strong reconnaissance abilities and a keen grasp of the battlefield. She can see what weâre doing."
"Got it."
The two of them exchanged dozens of strikes in tacit understanding.
"Next time, Iâll eat you."
Violet suddenly clenched her hand. The blood-red scythe in her grip instantly dissolved into liquid blood. With a flick of her palm, the blood flowed back into her hand.
After speaking, Violet vanished from Ashinaâs sight.
"What a strange fellow. Whateverâcorrupted creatures are unreasonable to begin with."
Ashina shook her head and clicked her tongue in disdain.
"I hate traitors the most... but this information is important for my lord. Sigh."
Meanwhile, on the main battlefield, the army of the Nightfall Domain had retreated behind the walls and began a brief rest.
The casualties among the Nightfall Domainâs forces were extremely low, but human strength was not limitless. After fighting this long, every soldier was drenched in sweat.
"I hope this short wall can hold them back for a little longer."
Phield panted heavily. His second-tier magic had already been nearly exhausted, though he had killed two or three hundred corrupted corpses.
"If this doesnât work, Iâll have to use the Greatsword of Gluttony. Facing the enemy in this condition would definitely result in heavy casualties."
From how the cavalry had been specifically targeted, Phield had already vaguely guessed that invisible eyes were watching the battlefield.
Unless absolutely necessary, he didnât want to reveal his trump card.
Fortunately, the manor wall slowed the corpse tideâs advance. Even though the corrupted corpses had lost nearly two thousand of their companions, their morale remained at one hundred percent as they continued to surge forward madly.
Soon, outside the manor wall, the corpses began piling their bodies together, climbing upward by stepping on one another.
"Crossbows ready."
Phieldâs expression remained calm, his face as composed as ever.
"Donât shoot the ones climbing the wall. Wait until they fall inside before attacking."
One major advantage of crossbows was that they required little physical effort.
Even though the soldiers were exhausted, pulling a trigger was no problem. As for reloading, that could be left to the younger men.
"Ready... fireâ"
Before he could finish the command, a straight line of azure dragonfire swept across the battlefield.
The pile of corpses stacked like a small mountain outside the wall was instantly ignited. Countless figures struggled and twisted within the flames until they turned into piles of bone ash.
"Lady Ashina has arrived!"
The soldiers erupted into cheers like a crashing tidal wave.
Ashina immediately controlled the black wolf and charged into the remaining corpse tide like a cannonball, crashing left and right like a wolf among sheep. In an instant, blood flowed like rivers.
Phield smiled slightly and shouted loudly.
"Do you have the strength now?"
"Yes!"
The soldiersâ morale slowly recovered.
"Take back the wallâkill all the corrupted corpses!"
Phield charged forward without hesitation.
"Kill!"
After eliminating the corpses that had climbed inside, the soldiers climbed onto the wall and used crossbows to support Ashina.
By around two in the afternoon, everyone charged out of the manor again. At that point, only scattered corrupted corpses remained outside. They had been split apart into isolated groups, unable to gather into a proper force.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the corrupted corpses were everywhere, filling the trenches outside the walls nearly to the brim.
The battle was nearing its end.
"Weâre here to help!"
Two figures suddenly emerged from the gray mistâone a black-robed mage, the other a handsome young man dressed like a warrior.
"First-tier magicâMagic Missile!"
"First-tier combat skillâFlashing Sword Strike!"
The two immediately joined the battle, mercilessly killing the few remaining corrupted corpses.
"Oh?"
Phield raised an eyebrow.
"Unexpected help from outside the territory... could they be adventurers?"
